Classicupgrade failure
Hello. I've still got a couple of NT domains and I'd like to upgrade them to AD. In these days I had a chance to try to migrate one of them, but I ran into troubles and had to go back. I don't know when I'll have the chance to try again (probably not before some months), but I need to understand what went wrong before that. The starting situation: Samba 4.8 running as AD

Samba 3.4.7 can't retrieve idmap infor from ldap
I am running Samba 3.4.7on Fedora Core 11 Linux. This is a domain member. My PDC is Samba 3.4.9 on Solaris 10. I have LDAP as a backend (Sun/Oracle Directory Server 6.) I have an OU for user accounts, and an OU for idmap entries. The PDC has already populated some idmap entries. An idmap entry looks like dn: sambaSID=S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-1121,ou=mydomain,ou =idmap,o=mycomany.com

Network Computing Newsletter article...
Hey gang... An SMB server comparison article just showed up at Network Computing. http://www.networkcomputing.com/1104/1104f3.html They compare three SMB servers including Samba 2.0.6 and we took first place (barely). Zinged us on central administration. Compaq's SMB server has central configuration and administration of multiple servers, which they liked a lot, apparently. Mike --

SWAT: How do I save the settings?
Hi, I might have overlooked something very obvious, but: I am running Samba 2.0.3 on a SuSE 6.0 system. When I connect to SWAT, I can see all the settings in the Globals sections, I can change them, but I can't find any button anywhere to *save* these changes... Can anyone help? :)avid <>< David A. Hi, I have a small problem when using barchart. I have the following data: letters a 6 f 18 1 a 15 10 j 12 9 i 12 4 d 9 5 e 6 The data is from a survey and summaries the alternatives selected in one question. The idea is to have a bar chart illustrating the count of each selection in descending order. The data frame is already ordered in

CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel SAN Target
For quite some time I?ve been using FreeNAS to provide services as a NAS over ethernet and SAN over Fibre Channel to CentOS 7 servers each using their own export, not sharing the same one. It?s time for me to replace my hardware and I have a new R720XD that I?d like to use in the same capacity but configure CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel target rather than use FreeNAS any further. I?m doing

Name Resolution, Pinging
I am running redhat 7.3 with Samba 2.2.4. I was wondering if there was a way to use Samba to resolve my IPs instead of having to add all the entries to my /etc/hosts file? For instance, I would like to be able to do `ping acormany` instead of `ping <IP Address>`. We are currently using WINS on a Windows box to resolve the IPs. As of right now, I can `ping acormany` on a Windows system, but

Rsync crash
Hello, I'm using an rsync server on a Linux packages repository (deb packages) to sync all mirrors. The mirrors sync every 10 minutes. Most of the time, there is nothing to sync, except a timestamp file, so the sync is pretty fast. Anyway, after it has been working well for some time (between 2 and 24hours), the rsync daemon crashes. It is still running but seems to retry something

2 gigabyte issue
I am running RedHat8, samba 2.2.7 The mailing list archives seem to pin the 2gb problem on several unrelated issues (all of which i explored). The machines in question have no problems creating 2+gb files locally and via NFS. Is this an issue with smbfs? smbmount? anyone have a workaround? -- 'As we enjoy great Advantages from the Inventions of others we should be glad of an Opportunity

RFC 3501 compliance issue: body-type-msg incorrect
Hi, I am using Dovecot 1.0 beta 7, moving to beta8 probably tomorrow. I am seeing a few RFC compliance issues with IMAP responses. I have an in-house IMAP client that caches IMAP data for a web mail system (it parses millions of IMAP interactions a day), and it reports whenever it gets a line that does not look RFC compliant. Unfortunately, users modify their mailboxes before I can get a copy

cant rename directories on NT
Everything is working perfect on win95 but from NT4: I can create, delete and rename files I can create and delete directories Problem: I can't rename created directories from the NT4 workstations on the network. And this is a big problem since NT4 creates a "New Folder" and asks you to type in the name you want. I have a 2.0.6 distribution on a SGI Origin200 Irix6.4 server. I

help - user password expiration in loop
Hi everybody, I think i need a samba guru to solve this issue, because googling for months did not help and the problem is becoming pressing. I'm facing an annoying problem with samba. In detail, there is something wrong with the password handling. It happens from windows, mac or linux clients. Randomly (probably after $num days), the system asks to the user to change the password. Problems after performing yum update
I performed the update yesterday that included installing kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.EL and replacing ethereal with wireshark. First, the trivial... Wireshark would not run from the KDE menu without editing the menu to change the command from "wireshark" to "kdesu wireshark" because dumpcap is at usr/sbin/dumpcap instead of /usr/bin/dumpcap . Making the change causes wireshark to
