Xen4CentOS e1000e package
KB and I were looking at repositories to import into git.centos.org
recently, and we found the e1000e package -- a rebuild of the Intel
e1000 driver for the x4c kernel.
Does anyone know if this externally-build module is still necesssary
for Linux 3.10? Or for Linux 3.14, which we're planning on moving to
at some point in the near future?

gas Intel syntax is indeed broken in LLVM. I'd love to make it work but
my work has not (yet) allocated time for that. Maybe I can hack LLVM on
the weekends. :)

Anti-idle in OpenSSH client?
Heya,
Most of the windows ssh clients (putty, securecrt) have anti-idle
features. They offer either a null packet or protocol no-op or user
defined string to be sent over every x seconds.
Is this possible or planned with the OpenSSH client? Our draconian
firewall admins have started timing out ssh sessions. Yes I'm aware I
could hack up a port forwarding dumb traffic process, but was

[OT^2]: Getting at the fan on an IBM Thinkpad 600E Laptop?
I'm doing a tutorial at Astricon and the plan is to use my laptop as a
demo server. Today it failed to boot and after a bit of sleuthing it
turns out the fan is sticking from time to time on bootup. Apparently
there is a sensor and if no spin, no go.
Moving everything right now would be draconian, yet I can't take a
chance on a no-boot while at the show. Does anyone know how bad a

Wiki TOS - worrying for an open source project?
Hi there,
I've made a couple of small contributions to the wiki but recently I
read the Terms of service, they are pretty draconian:

swat seems broken in HEAD
it just says
/usr/sbin/swat.new
Aborted
when i run it from the command line.
nothing i can see in the logs...
The swat binary from a 2 week old head now
(with the rest of the installation from today's head)
seems to work okay.
what's going on with swat - did i screw up the build?
Are others also having problems? (nothing in the marc)

Samba4 successful deployment
I've just installed samba4 beta 7 with defaults and everything went OK.
As I download bind9.9.1 tarball and compiled it I had to follow steve's
advice:
to declare we'll be using DLZ_DLOPEN_VERSION 2 in
/samba-master/source4/dns_server/dlz_minimal.h
/*#ifdef BIND_VERSION_9_8
#define DLZ_DLOPEN_VERSION 1

Joining WinXp to Samba PDC
After trying to get WinXP (Pro) to try and find my domain so I can log
on I've finally done it, but now when I try and join my WinXP client to
the domain, windows asks me to enter the username and password of an
account with permission to join the domain.
Now which account would this be?? root doesn't work, neither do my other
samba users.
Do I have to create another user or something?

Samba 3.0 + AD + OpenLDAP
Hi everyone!
I've already deployed samba-2.2.7a-2 and enabled openLDAP support. I
now have a machine configured as a domain controller authenticating all
windows users via openLDAP. openLDAP is also authenticating all of our
linux users.
I would like to install Exchange2000 on a windows2000 machine so our
windows users can do calendaring (sendmail already handles all of our
email needs).

LDAP Filter Problem
I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one. I am having trouble
getting LDAP and samba working properly on my Debian Woody box. I am using
OpenLDAP 2.0.27-3 and the unsable packaged Samba version 2.999+3.0 and am
using the samba.schema for my LDAP database.
Whenever I try to join the network using either W2K or smbclient the LDAP
debug log shows that the following filter is being

Can't Find Password
I am running Samba 3.0 HEAD with LDAP 2.0. I have ldapsam enabled buy when
I try to log into my server from a W2K machine I get the following in my
error log:
sam_password_ok: NO NT password stored for user root.
The log file shows that Samba successfully retrieved the root posixAccount
record and the log displays some of the data (i.e. home directory) that is
stored for root in LDAP. The

blocking file locks
Hello all,
As a Samba programming newbie, I've run onto a question that doesn't have an
obvious answer in FAQ or googled literature. I need to lock large numbers of
files on the server, and have Samba open requests block until they are
released. I found references to "blocking locks" in references such as
"Using Samba" (O'Reilly, 1999, 2003)

been asked before, but I've not been able to fix my problem so I'll ask

I have been successful in joining the XP machine to the domain however it
when I try to login to the domain windows instantly kicks up the message:
"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domaincontroller

Samba and oplocks
Hi
We've here some problems with Samba on a freeBSD-Server.
FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE
Samba Version 3.0.25a
The problem is about locking of open files. For example when a user A
opens a excel-sheet and a user B also opens the same file, user B won't
only open this file as read-only.
We moved from a Windows Server to a freebsd based one about 2 weeks ago
and we also had some problems with dbs

samba, openldap, smbldap tools
Hi-
I'musing the smbldap tools to create ldap entries for user logins through
samba. I was just wondering if anyone knew what format userPassword is
stored in. Is it an md5 hash? Thanks!!
