Samba on MacOSX and printing
Hi all, an iBook running Mac OS X 10.2 recently joined my little network, so i did configure it for using a Windows shared printer (HP Officejet G55), naturally through SMB protocol. I used CUPS for setting it up. Now, the problem: if i try to print from the iBook, the printer takes about 10 minutes for throwing out each page and the document seems to be continuously spooled up to windows.

Help needed getting rsync to copy from windows to mac
I'm trying to use rsync to copy files from a Microsoft Windows machine (XP, with cygwin) to a macintosh (10.5.8, PPC). After a lot of playing with options, manual page reading, etc, I have the following command, executed on the windows machine: rsync -A -X -a --delete --rsync-path="/opt/local/bin/rsync --fake-super --log-file=/tmp/rlog.txt" /cygdrive/c/DRIVERS "rsync at

Remote print problem
I am running Centos 4 and I am trying to use a printer on a Windows domain that is connected to a Windows XP Pro computer. If I do smbclient //ComputerName/PrinterName password -U UserName and then /> printmode text /> print /tmp/test.txt the printer works. However, if I setup the printer and check the CUPS printers.conf, it appears to be correct, but I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL when

Metaplot Axis Annotation
Hello, We are looking to adjust the font size of the axis annotation on the graph that results from use of the metaplot() function. Metaplot seems to respond to cex and cex.lab to change those graphical parameters, but it doesn't respond to cex.axis. Is there a way to work around this by creating a customized x-axis, and if so, how? Thanks for all your help. Syntax is below. Best, Dawn

Printing to FreeBSD server from XP using samba
A couple of days ago I set up my printer on my FreeBSD server and set it up so I could print from my FreeBSD client. This all works very well, printing from botht the server and the FBSD client. However, I also have samba set up for file serving with an XP box. I have been trying for quite some time now to set samba up to enable me to print from the XP client. My situation at the moment is that

Printing to XP printer
I am having a bit of a problem getting my Samba printer configuration to work with Windows XP(I am running samba on Linux Redhat 7.3). My other shares seem to work as I can find my files on the my Linux system using XP. I have used redhat 7.3 kde printer configurations to create the appropriate files. The result is when I try to send a print job the printer kicks into to gear but only a blank

windows XP Guest network doesn''t work
I have Xen 3.0.3 installed on RH EL5 via RedHat RPMs. I have a Win/XP Pro HVM and a Linux rh5 HVM. I can create both w/o a problem and can interact with the VNC based console for both VMs. The Linux VM interacts via DHCP, obtains an IP and seems to work fine on the network. The Win/XP VM doesn''t work with either DHCP or a static IP address assignment. I can see the virtual interfaces

plot bg color in Mac OSX
Hi, I am running R on my iBook (OS X 10.4) and whenever I try and plot a model that has been run, I get a grey background. This makes the plot difficult to read on b&w printouts. I have tried changing the background to white (or any other color) without any success. Here's a current example plot(augPred(m2corn.nlme, level=0:1), bg="transparent", lty=c(1,4), pch=19,

Printing problems with NT/Samba
Hi, This is a message requesting help for the following problem: Printing Word 97 documents, stored on a Samba server, on an NT4 system to an LPD print queue fails under certain well-defined conditions, creating an empty file called 'Ne<number>:' (e.g. 'Ne120:'). The problem appears to be easily reproducable, as long as you have more than 99 print queues on your NT system.

Very slow domU network performance
I set up a domU as a backup server, but it has very, very poor network performance with external computers. I ran some tests with iperf and found some very weird results. Using iperf, I get these approximate numbers (the left column is the iperf client and the right column is the iperf server): domU --> domU 1.77 Gbits/sec (using 127.0.0.1) domU --> domU 1.85 Gbits/sec (using domU

Problem printing from NT to printer attached to LInux box
I installed Samba 2.2.2 on my Linux box. The smb.conf file is as shown below. The permission on /var/spool/lpd/lp is set to 755; ie, it is writable only by the owner, which is lp. With the setup as is, when I try to print from the NT machine, the smb log on the Linux box indicates the following error: " print_job_start: insufficient permissions to open spool file /var/spool/lpd/lp". Clustered Samba Printing
Hi Folks, I'm part of a Novell department that is working on moving from Novell NDPS printing to Samba printing. I have been told that the Samba environment will have to be clustered to assure the same level of redundancy for printing. Does anyone have any pointers? Whether actual experience in this or a location of good documentation of the clustering process? Thanks for

OT: iBook or MacBook Pro?
Well, the worm has turned and I think I may actually get an Apple ;P. But I can''t decide which one. Pros and cons: 14" iBook: + modem (for when broadband kicks out, or on the road and there''s no WIFI) + screen is probably big enough (though I currently have a 15" Dell) + doesn''t get as hot as the MacBook + almost half the cost + less likely to get stolen -

OT: Debugging iBook --- help
This is way OT, but here goes... I''ve had an iBook for 2 days now and am debugging a web built with prototype/script aculo / windows / etc... I have no real experience on a Mac. Occasionally, there''s no better way to debug JavaScript than an alert in a loop... Once I have the information information I want from the alert, the loop may want to execute another 300 times. I

Automatic Insertion of OpenACC/OpenMP directives
Dear LLVMers, we have released a tool that uses LLVM to insert OpenACC or OpenMP 4.0 directives in programs. You can use the tool online here: http://cuda.dcc.ufmg.br/dawn/. Our tool, dawn-cc, analyzes the LLVM IR to infer the sizes of memory chunks, and to find dependences within loops. After that, we use debug information to translate the low-level information back into annotations that we

Printing woes
Hi, I've been using Samba for a while, and I'm now running all network printing here from Samba. However, while printing itself works fine, my users can neither view the print queue, nor delete jobs from it, and this is beginning to get annoying. I'm using LPRng to do all the printing. All the clients are NT4 workstations. Here's some selected bits of /etc/smb.conf and

XP Pro / Redhat / Samba Printer Suggestions
I am looking at buying a new home office printer and wondered what you all might suggest. My current printer is a very inexpensive Canon BubbleJet, and I find it clogs frequently, has very small ink tanks, and the Maintenance functions from my XP clients does not work with samba, requiring I switch the printer cable to an XP machine for maintenance. My config is this: - XP Professional
