Visual Sourcesafe HOWTO
I went to the trouble of setting up Visual Sourcesafe
on a Linux system recently. There was a fair amount of
futzing required, so I've documented what I had to do at
   http://www.kegel.com/linux/vss-howto.html
Comments and corrections welcome. I'd also love to know how
to get this working without hardcoding NT usernames and passwords!
The commandline app appears to be fully functional

smbfs + wine + sourcesafe = slow
While it is amazing that Sourcesafe runs under Wine,
its performance leaves a lot to be desired.
I am using Sourcesafe with Wine (my setup is documented at
http://www.kegel.com/linux/vss-howto.html ).
The Wine I'm using is from CVS as of last week.
My workstation is a dual Pentium Xeon 1400MHz from Dell
running 2.4.10. (That's a Pentium 4 Xeon using RDRAM,
so it's probably about

[Fwd: Re: GCC 3.3 release criteria]
gcc is a great compiler, but as of gcc3.2.2, it can't
compile Samba on Sparc with -O2. This has been marked
as a high priority bug in the gcc bug tracking system,
and should be fixed before the next release.
To make such regressions less likely in the future,
it would be helpful if somebody were to look at
http://gcc.gnu.org/testing/
and submit a build-and-test guide for Samba to the

"Command & Conquer 3" dvd automount failure workaround
The "Command & Conquer 3" dvd fails to automount when you insert it,
and is not recognized as a UDF image by /bin/file, but is
recognized as a UDF image by mount.
To reproduce:
insert "Command & Conquer 3" dvd.
Observe that gnome does not automount.
Look in /var/log/messages, notice line like

save failed to open mailbox quarantine
I use postfix. The folder name is still uppercase when forwarded to dovecot, as
can be seen in /var/log/mail.log.

E-Mail Serving Options
Hi All,
What are my e-mail serving options? I need to host POP, IMAP and SMTP.
I must admit that non-windows e-mail hosting has always been a chore
for me. I remember QMail and QPopper IIRC.

OpenSSH_3.6.1p2 getsockopt TCP_NODELAY bogus message on Solaris 8
I ran into the following problem the first time I used

Gee, it's been a while since I posted a new version of winetricks.
This is rather a big update.

I looked into that problem a bit more. Several programs use

Hundreds of auth-worker sockets in /etc/dovecot
I run dovecot 1.2.6, before last update I had 1.2.2. on Debian Lenny. I
noticed that my config directory /etc/dovecot is filled up with hundreds of
old auth-worker.12345 sockets. I guess they should have been cleaned up, is
there a misconfiguration? When I remember right, this did not happen with
dovecot 1.1.

Java install
While using Fedora, I always used java straight from Sun. What is
recommended for CentOS?? Getting jetty, java and other java apps working
correctly has been a real chore. If I used nothing but RPMs for CEntOS,
would I have a real working java install? I need some help on this one
badly. Ric

save failed to open mailbox quarantine
I have dovecot 2.2.13 set up with spamassassin and amavis. This works fine so
far, Spam emails are forwarded to "username+Quarantine at mydomain.de". The
recipient_delimiter=+ is set, the Quarantine folder exists. However, Dovecot
tries to deliver it to a folder quarantine, that does not exist. In the
dovecot-deliver.log there are these lines:

openssh-2.9.9p2, AC_SYS_LARGEFILE, SCO, and HPUX
openssh-2.9.9p2/configure.in says:
  # Disabled until it works on SCO and HPUX
  #AC_SYS_LARGEFILE
As an autoconf maintainer I'd like to fix this. Can you please
explain what's broken on SCO and HPUX?
I'm puzzled by the comment, as AC_SYS_LARGEFILE is a feature
introduced in autoconf 2.50, whereas openssh-2.9.9p2/configure was
built with autoconf 2.13.
Anyway, some older GNU

Thanks to Austin English for taking on most of the work keeping
winetricks up to date!
(And apologies for my own slowness in doing another release.)
