ZFS and multipath with iSCSI
We''re currently designing a ZFS fileserver environment with iSCSI based storage (for failover, cost, ease of expansion, and so on). As part of this we would like to use multipathing for extra reliability, and I am not sure how we want to configure it. Our iSCSI backend only supports multiple sessions per target, not multiple connections per session (and my understanding is that the

Can't 'save-as' from MS Word
Samba Gurus, I've got a Solaris box running samba 2.0.7. A couple of users on Windows XP clients are reporting problems saving files from within MS Word, and Wordpad to the samba share, which of course is a mapped drive. They get an error saying "This is not a valid file name".... These XP boxes do have the reg hacks plainpassword.reg and signorseal.reg installed. The work around

Ways to speed up ''zpool import''?
We''re planning to build a ZFS-based Solaris NFS fileserver environment with the backend storage being iSCSI-based, in part because of the possibilities for failover. In exploring things in our test environment, I have noticed that ''zpool import'' takes a fairly long time; about 35 to 45 seconds per pool. A pool import time this slow obviously has implications for how fast

rsync --link-dest, --delete and hard-link count
Hello fellas, Firstly, I would like to apologize for the post being long, but I would appreciate if someone with a good knowledge of the subject gave his opinion. I am working on a backup solution for a series of old and very specialized host computers in aviation industry. I need to do monthly backups of one or two logical volumes (non-OS) on each of the computers and keep the last 12 monthly

Recommendation for dialplan in case of DDoS atta cks?
I'm trying to formulate a strategy for our interconnected Asterisk IAX peers to failover to the PSTN in the event of a DDoS. We currently use them like this: DID--->PRI--->Primary Asterisk--->IAX--->On-site Asterisk--->SIP This works fine, and everyone is happy. One of my concerns, though, is if we get DDoS'd - which happens probably once every couple of years. I'd

hung pool on iscsi
Hi, Can anyone identify whether this is a known issue (perhaps 6667208) and if the fix is going to be pushed out to Solaris 10 anytime soon? I''m getting badly beaten up over this weekly, essentially anytime we drop a packet between our twenty-odd iscsi-backed zones and the filer. Chris was kind enough to provide his synopsis here (thanks Chris):

chan_capi syntax
Hi, What is the correct chan_capi dial syntax?? This is what I think it is.. exten => _90.,1,Dial(CAPI/[msn here]:${EXTEN:1}) This seems to work for local numbers.. but I have an access number for cheap long distance calls.. wich gets dialed and then the number I want to call is sent as DTMF after a few waits (w).. On my X100P I used the following.. exten => _9001.,1,Dial(Zap/1/[access

pxe + memdisk ..??
Hello ALL, I've got a diskless server working (under Gentoo), booting on it works. (a linux session start with no problem.) My Big problem, is to get Memdisk to boot with PXE. In fact memdisk is loaded, but it cannot find the img file. I've tried a lot of thing, but nothing works... tftp use : /diskless the config file for PXE in then in : /diskless/pxelinux.cfg/ the root for the

pxe weirdness
I know that this is not a pxelinux/syslinux question (yet), but I am having a weird issue with a HP ML370. It is using HP UNDI PXE 2.1 (build 082) v 3.1.15 I successfully get an IP address from my DHCP server, but the machine fails when it attempts to make it's TFTP connection with: "PXE-E32 - TFTP Open timeout" It never gets the pxelinux.0 file. The odd thing I noticed was

Terrible zfs performance under NFS load
Hello, We have a S10U5 server sharing with zfs sharing up NFS shares. While using the nfs mount for a log destination for syslog for 20 or so busy mail servers we have noticed that the throughput becomes severly degraded shortly. I have tried disabling the zil, turning off cache flushing and I have not seen any changes in performance. The servers are only pushing about 1MB/s of constant

Tracking down the causes of a mysteriously shrinking ARC cache?
I have a test Solaris machine with 8 GB of memory. When freshly booted, the ARC consumes 5 GB (and I would be happy to make it consume more) and file-level prefetching works great even when I hit the machine with a lot of simultaneous sequential reads. But overnight, the ARC has shrunk to 2 GB (as reported by arcstat.pl) and file-level prefetching is (as expected at that level) absolutely

How are you supposed to remove faulted spares from pools?
We have a situation where all of the spares in a set of pools have gone into a faulted state and now, apparently, we can''t remove them or otherwise de-fault them. I''m confidant that the underlying disks are fine, but ZFS seems quite unwilling to do anything with the spares situation. (The specific faulted state is ''FAULTED corrupted data'' in ''zpool

Pxelinux 2.09 limitations
Hi all, I've just found a small bug this morning. My pxelinux.cfg contains 65 entries. The last one is never usable by pxelinux.0. It sounds like the number of entries is managed on 6 bits :) Is there a reason for that ? Is it possible to have a bugfix for that ?
