Use Samba on an other port than 137-139?
Hello, I would like to ask you if its possible to run Samba on an other port than 137-139? I tried once to edit the "/etc/services" File. The lines: ... netbios-ns 137/tcp netbios-ns 137/udp netbios-dgm 138/tcp netbios-dgm 138/udp netbios-ssn 139/tcp netbios-ssn 139/udp ... I changed it to: ... netbios-ns 6998/tcp netbios-ns 6998/udp netbios-dgm 6999/tcp netbios-dgm 6999/udp

zfs sparc boot "Bad magic number in disk label"
Hello, I recently installed SunOS 5.11 snv_91 onto a Ultra 60 UPA/PCI with OpenBoot 3.31 and two 300GB SCSI disks. The root file system is UFS on c0t0d0s0. Following the steps in ZFS Admin I have attempted to convert root to ZFS utilizing c0t1d0s0. However, upon "init 6" I am always presented with: Bad magic number in disk label can''t open disk label package My Steps: 1)

error message in smbd.log file: bind failed on port 139 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.
I can run nmbd successfully, but smbd dies almost immediately when I run it, the smbd.log file has the message "bind failed on port 139 socket_addr = 0.0.0.0.". When I do a netstat -an | grep 139, it shows that tcp is listening on port 139. How do I resolve this conflict between tcp and smbd?

Newbie questions?
I have the book, "The Official Samba-3 Howto and Reference Guide" and I'm trying to get 3.0.22 running on Aix 5.2. All I want to do is setup some file sharing at the moment and map a drive from an XP pc to a directory on Aix. We have a Windows domain setup, the domain name is mobot.org. The Aix server is named mobot. I've been searching through the archives for

Bind Failed on Port 139
I installed Samba 2.0.0 on a P100 running SlackWare Linux 96 (Kernel 2.0.0). After running configure, make, make install, and testparm, I thought I was all ready to start up the smbd daemon. So I typed in smbd -D -d 50 Got back a failure listing in the error log. [1999/02/01 16:27:06, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(663 Brian Lee Bowers | Division of Government Research Computer Aide I

blocked ports 445 and 139 make printer-shares very slow
Hi, do ports 445 and 139 (incoming) have to be open for the samba server's IP on WinXP client side (all WinXP clients are using netbios over TCP/IP)? F-Secure 7.10 blocks all incoming microsoft-ds (445) and netbios-ssn (139) by default, which ends up in very slow printer-shares behaviour (for example opening the properties or the spool window of a samba-printer takes up to 30 seconds). For

Slow access when opening shares
Hey, I have slow access when I first open shares. If I reboot my XP box and then go to access a share, it takes a good 10 seconds for files to come up, even after I've typed in my username and password. Once accessed it runs fine and is fast. But, if I don't access it for 30 minutes, when I access it again it sits for like 10 good seconds before it does anything. This is very annoying.

smbmounts hang around after windows client disconnects
Using 2.2.1a and a 2.4 kernel patched for win4lin. Everything is working but: I mount all the available network shares on my linux box as root to one network directory. If a windows client shuts down while the linux box is still connected, the share is not removed from my mount list or from /proc/mounts It cannot be removed with umount. I can kill the smbmount with kill -15 but the share is still

Joining WinXp to Samba PDC
After trying to get WinXP (Pro) to try and find my domain so I can log on I've finally done it, but now when I try and join my WinXP client to the domain, windows asks me to enter the username and password of an account with permission to join the domain. Now which account would this be?? root doesn't work, neither do my other samba users. Do I have to create another user or something?

It is a Debian 4.0 amd64 up to date with stable. ftp works just fine so not network, must be samba config. vary slow file transfer when copying file from one computer but copy from two or more at the same time speed is 10 times faster. Samba 3.0 + AD + OpenLDAP
Hi everyone! I've already deployed samba-2.2.7a-2 and enabled openLDAP support. I now have a machine configured as a domain controller authenticating all windows users via openLDAP. openLDAP is also authenticating all of our linux users. I would like to install Exchange2000 on a windows2000 machine so our windows users can do calendaring (sendmail already handles all of our email needs).

maximum cpus/cores in CentOS 4.1
What is the maximum number of AMD64 cores supported by CentOS 4? The RedHat page https://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/configuration/ suggests that RHEL 4 AS supports up to 8 AMD64/EM64T logical cpus. Is that accurate and does it apply to CentOS 4? I see a few vendors offering boxes with 8 (dual core) CPU sockets. IWILL for one. Thanks, Tony Schreiner Boston College

LDAP Filter Problem
I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one. I am having trouble getting LDAP and samba working properly on my Debian Woody box. I am using OpenLDAP 2.0.27-3 and the unsable packaged Samba version 2.999+3.0 and am using the samba.schema for my LDAP database. Whenever I try to join the network using either W2K or smbclient the LDAP debug log shows that the following filter is being
