Groups with Samba domain controler or domain member
Does anybody know more about groups? I am considering switching from NT to Samba domain and have made some test. Unfortunately I need to make two additional groups, except Domain Admin (one of them is Domain Users). Is it possible to make that with the stable version of Samba? And another, but not so important (for now) question. Currently I have a Samba server, providing files and printers

Win2K/XP, oplocks, and readahead.
Hi! I'm working with Samba backed by a high performance filesystem. From a Windows 2K and Windows XP client I'm trying to achieve very high speed single file throughput over GigE from the Windows client using either open/write or CreateFile/ReadFile APIs. I'd rather not venture into overlapped IO there so that we don't have to recommend that all our customers rewrite their

Help with Winbind
I've been trying for weeks to get winbind working with RedHat Linux 8.0. I've got everything setup per the winbind docs on http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html#WINBIND. I've successfully joined my NT4 domain with smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC -U Administrator. Running wbinfo -u returns my domain user list, as well as wbinfo -g returning my domain groups. getent

Winbind: login "cannot find name for group ID XXXXX" ONLY RedHat 8
My RedHat 8.0 workstation doesn't want to play nice with Winbind. The rest of our Samba servers (on RedHat 7.3) are working fine, and I am familiar with setting up Winbind. Samba: 2.2.7a (RPM from Samba.org. RedHat's RPMs do same thing.) Kernel 2.4.20 NT 4 domain I'd copied the pam and smb.conf from a working box in testing. Getent passwd and group works, BUT getent group

pam_winbind.so - How do I create it?
Hello, I'm installing 2.2.7a, or attempting to at any rate. I've compiled it from source using the following instructions: http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html Anyways, I've got it set up so that it works. Now I'm trying to get to a point where I can interface it like I have with a different Linux box that is working without any problems. When I did the

Hello, I am using kernel version 2.4.7-10 I upgraded one of the ext2 partition to ext3. the partitions are nearly empty. I ran a program to create empty files, having names in lexicographical order. Unable to see linux files on windows using Samba
Hi, I installed Samba on the only linux server that we have on our network. On the Linux server, I was able to mount various shared directories from various windows machines ( we use windows 2000 ) So, seeing windows files on linux is not a problem. We also wanted to go the other way( seeing linux files on windows ) I searched on google but to no avail. I set the lmhosts file and still nothing

samples in FLAC are always signed. they must be signed going into the encoder (flac converts unsigned samples to signed) and they come out of the decoder signed. re: Samba up, but not listening
I am confused by this paragraph: > I have looked at the Redhat firewall. I have even > tried copying its smb.conf file to no avail. smb.conf has nothing to do with the Redhat firewall. I use ipchains but Redhat likely used a more advanced firewall, that I can't really help you with much, if that is your problem. Joel

I buy flowers at a local market on a fairly regular basis. The flower vendors post their prices and if I want to buy only one or two flowers I will generally get the posted price. From time to time I want to buy large quantities of flowers, and sometimes a vendor will give me a better price than their posted price for the bulk order, but more often I have to offer them a higher price than the

!!ATTENTION NEWBIES!!
I've been reading this list for a few weeks now and I've given advice on questions that look challenging but I've deleted MANY questions like these: "How do I (easy question found in the documents)?" Though I don't count myself an expert, I've known enough experts to see that they _HATE_ it when you don't invest some time before asking a question. I too have

password key in Windows XP
We are using SAMBA 2.2.4 to support a large community of Windows users. The latest deployment of PC's come with Windows XP, and we need to disable Password Encryption on those to use SAMBA. We need help in locating the "EnablePlainTextPassword" key. Thanks in advance Jaime A Cifuentes

Samba in Samba
I have a Samba PDC installed to authorize my windows network clients. And it is running on Solaris. I want to install a one another Samba file server and I want it to authorize windows clients by consulting the PDC. This second server must also paricipate in the domain the PDC is responsible for. How can I do this? Thanks, Cyril.

[Flac-users] Grip, FLAC, and album replay gain
OK, here's a problem: I want to set the album replay gain in each track, but I'm using grip to rip and encode the tracks one by one. grip knows that all the tracks are on a single album, but FLAC sees them one at a time. I put the --replay-gain option on the FLAC command line, so it emits four comments into the vorbis commebnt block, e.g.: comment[9]:

I have the version I'm currently using which was based on an old version of Jens and has streaming support. It's a bit queer on seeking, and crashes XMMS if you seek while in pause, but it
