Samba 3.0 help
Is there a place that has all the options that you can add to the smb.conf
file in verion 3. How to set up as a domain controller and how the acl's
work. The documentation for verion 2.x on the samba web site is excellent
, but I was not able to find any for 3.x. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

nmbd in redhat 8.0
If I enable wins support = yes & I start smbd it starts smb & nmb. When I
restart the service it says that there is no nmb service at 10045 running.
When I do a ps -aux, you can still see the service running. They will
keep building up until I manually delete them. Does anyone know how to
fix this?

Compiling samba with srpm's
I am new to linux and samba. I have looked everywhere for a good place
that has instructions at a newbie level on how to use srpms to get samba
to work with acl's. I have got the xfs filesystem to work. I think that
I need to recompile samba to make it work with acl's, but do I also need
the kernel to be patched since the filesystem supports the acl's natively?
and can someone

No Roaming profiles local only
On a windows server there is a local profile by default unless you tell it
to have a roaming profile. I want to have the same thing happen. All the
machines say that they used the local copy then a couple seconds later
it says it could not copy to the server and any changes will not be saved.
I know that I could let it be a roaming and switch it to a local later
but in a larger

Samba 4
Does any one know the status of Samba 4. I was reading about it on the
Samba web site and it sounds really nice. I am not complaining, just
wondering how it is doing, if they are able to make it smaller with the
web configuration built into the smbd. It will be so good. Samba 3, I
could not believe how much better it got so when 4 comes out it should
just be out of this world. I also

Adding linux users to linux server with samba
Is there a way to add the linux user to the system on the fly while you
run smbpasswd -a and even set the password so you do not have to do two
steps or to have adduser or useradd add a user to smb by default with the
same password if created. Many of the users in a small business do not
remember to add both and then get frustrated when they can't use the
system to find it is because

Samba on Linux with no ACL's is making things tough
Please for give me if this gets a bit long.
I am presently in the process of moving my company's file server from
Windows NT 4.0 over to Linux with SAMBA and the lack of ACL support in
the ext2 filesystem is making things very difficult to design. To
clarify I am NOT writing about Samba's support for NT ACL's on NTFS. I
am writing to possibly get some tips for getting around the lack

ACLs as Standard Component in ext3?
To all:
I was wondering if there was any talk regarding the possible inclusion
into either kernel 2.4.x or 2.5.x of a general and standard ACL
interface for file system security. I've used the ACL patch from
acl.bestbits.at on ext3 & love it dearly except for the quota issues.
Despite those issues I absolutely could not live without ACL's
on large file servers with a few hundred or

SGI XFS 1.0.2a, ACLs and samba 2.2.3a with win2k perms
Hi,
I haven't been able to find any doco that explicity states whether it is
supported, so I am hoping someone out there can answer the following
questions:
Is it possible for a folder/file in a samba share to have win2k security
permissions assigned to it? For example, I want my samba server to
participate in an existing Win2k domain. I want users to be able to set
their own

Request for ACL experiences
I'm having trouble with ACL's and wonder how many others are too. I see
conflicting answers and comments about different aspects of ACL's from
many prople on the list. I was wondering if ANYONE is successfully
using ACL's with Samba 3.0 or above.
Questions I have that I'm sure many are asking are:
Was your Samba server configured as the DC?
What client OS were you

ACL: some maybe stupid questions
Hi.
I want to use ACL on my RH-9.0 box (x86), so I got ext3 ACL patch from
http://acl.bestbits.at/ and tried to apply it to the kernel that ships
with RH (2.4.20-8). The patching fails on some vm file so I got a vanila
kernel 2.4.20, apply the patch and compile it. This works fine. Also
RH-9.0 precompiled Samba 2.2.7 works fine with ACL.
I connected to my share with WinXP and do some testing

Samba and Linux ACLs
Hi Samba folks,
let me first introduce myself. I'm the guy behind <acl.bestbits.at>, the Linux
ACL patch. (The other patch at
<http://aerobee.informatik.uni-bremen.de/acl_eng.html> seems pretty much history
BTW). A lot of work has gone into that project; we're approaching a very stable
release soon...
Now people keep asking me over and over again about ACL support in Samba.

ACLs with samba
Hi-
I am experiencing some odd behavior with ACLs with winbindd using Samba 2.6
on Debian Woody (kernel version 2.4.18).
1. I am unable to alter permissions from Win2K clients using the
Properties->Security interface. Is this normal? I get the "Unable to save
Permission Changes on new Folder. Access is denied." message. This occurs
with all accounts, both privileged and

[PATCH] ext3 doc: user_xattr and acl options are not on by default
Documentation/ext3.txt suggests that the "user_xattr" and "acl" mount options
are on by default. This doesn't seem to be the case, as the kernel deduces the
default mount options from the filesystem superblock, and mke2fs does not
appear to write any default mount options there.

Samba + ACL
I wish to realize a file-server with SAMBA integrated in my network domain
(Windows NT4 PDC).
To manage the user access for each share in the Samba file-server, I would
use Active Control Lists.
Anyone can tell me
- what type and version of Linux is best for my purpose ?
- what Samba version is best to use ?
Thanks. Marco
