samba, openldap, smbldap tools
Hi-
I'musing the smbldap tools to create ldap entries for user logins through
samba. I was just wondering if anyone knew what format userPassword is
stored in. Is it an md5 hash? Thanks!!

remote access to samba server
Hi-
Is there any way I can have users on a non-local network connect, through
the Internet, to my Samba server securely...meaning that all authentication
and file transfers are encrypted? Is there a way to do this over VPN
without additional hardware? Thanks!

Samba / OpenLDAP and groups
Hi-
I'm using Samba with OpenLDAP and was wondering how to add a user to
multiple groups, for instance 'Domain Users' and 'Marketing'. Is this
stored in the gid field? Do I just add more than one gid filed for each
entry? Thanks!

VPN
Hi list, I am trying to create a VPN between two different locations. On
the first location we have a cisco pix 525 Natting the internal
192.168.100.x network, while on the second location we have a Centos3
box Natting via iptables the internal 192.168.10.x netowrk. My goal is
to connect this 2 over the internet via IPsec. I created the IPsec

Betr.: VPN
IF you are not stuck to IPSec, you might want to take a look at OpenVPN (www.openvpn.org). I found OpenVPN easier to install than FreeSWAN (an IPSEC VPN) and have setup an OpenVPN solution between my German office and our mainoffice in a matter of hours.

Connecting CentOS to IPSEC VPN (Checkpoint FW1)
Hi,
Does anyone have experience using IPSEC on CentOS in order to connect to
vendor IPSEC-based VPN products (specifically Checkpoint FW1) ?
Is the included IPSEC implementation sufficient, or do people have to rely
on OpenSWAN or FreeSWAN ? I'd be testing tomorrow and I'm interested with
experiences others have had and things to look out for.
Thanks in advance,

Forward some traffic to VPN
Hi. I am trying to force some traffic that goes to address 203.7.93.94
through a VPN tunnel. I use freeswan 1.98b and Shorewall 1.4.6c in one
machine. The 203.7.93.94 is in the DMZ on the other end. (Both ends use
the same shorewall and freeswan).
I have successfully set up a tunnel between the two network (using a
point to point topology, not hub).
I added a static routing that redirect

Windows 2000 Profiles Through Freeswan VPN
Hello,
I have setup a samba server at my office as a PDC it stores the profiles
on the server fine. I can access the profiles from any computer in the
office just fine. My problem is that I work from home 4 days a week and
need to access my work profile. I currently VPN into the office network
via freeswan. I can log into the the domain from the vpn'd connection
and I can access the samba

VPN?
Once you have Samba shares up and running on the
internal network, how do you go about making them
available (browsable) via the Internet--a VPN?
I hate to say it but in Windows 2k it's just a matter
of a few clicks on the server and client. I'm hoping
that it's not much harder with a Linux server/Windows
client. Anything involving something like SSH will be
too hard for most users.

Problems with AGI scripts in Perl and Java
Hi
what can be wrong with * that console does not show any stderr text printed
from agi script?
I am starting with asterisk -vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvrc
VERBOSE command does show text on console but printing of STDERR does not
I tried it from Perl and from Java and in both cases almost the same result,
except in Java more things do not work.
In Java for, for example, SAY DIGITS 123 78# would

Shorewall, Freeswan and SuSE 9.1
I have been using shorewall and freeswan successfully for 3 or more
years now. But they have all been using the Linux 2.4 kernel. My current
configuration is (as the title suggests) using SuSE 9.1 which has a
2.6.5 kernel and freeswan 2.0.4 built-in.
After much reading and a lot of trial and error, I did get this
combination to work with Shorewall 2.0.9. It is happily talking to an
older Mandrake

VPN Pass through documentation
Dear shorewall users:
I am going to implement VPN IPSEC pass through. Got shorewall as the
main firewall interfacing the internet. I found Tom''s documentation on
how to do it. The question is: there''s an argument that VPN pass through
(pass through NAT) will undermine the importance of AH (source: freeswan
site). Is it true?

Winxp netlogon script
Hi all,
I am having problems running a logon script from a Winxp pro client. It
appears that the logon script is not being run at all. Win98 runs the
script fine, but none of the Winxp pro clients are currently running it.
I am running RedHat 7.1 with Samba version 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix.
My smb.conf is as follows:
[global]
netbios name = LOKKI
server string = Lokki PDC
