A telnet server is not running. I think that's why you don't see it.

Cannot connect to Samab
first keep your mail on the list and only the list
it makes me tired when people deliver denugging infos in pieces - what
about "telnet host port" - what makes you sure that a low level
connection even works and no firefwall or whatever device blocks the
connection and as long that is not clear any other debugging is useless
and i still don't get why in the world don't you

messaging problems
I'm having trouble sending messages to my Win2000 and XP clients.
Everything worked with Samba 2.2.2, and now with Samba 3.0 (CVS) it fails.
Below are two trails, the first works (sending to the Samba server) and
the second fails.
(Also, how do I get rid of the upcase.dat, lowcase.dat, and valid.dat
errors?)
Thanks!!

Hi,good morning every one.
I configured a samba server on linux system, when I test the samba server by 'smbclient -U% -L localhost',the wrong message is :tree connect failded:ERRSRV-ERRbadpw(bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid).
On the other hand, when I visit the samba server by Win2000 professional client,I can see the icon of the machine which

Windows 'Adminsitrator' User Can't Connect
Hello all,
I'm in the process of moving from Samba 2.2 -> Samba 3.0 and I'm
running into an issue with the Windows user 'Administrator'. This
samba box is using ADS and has Kerberos properly configured. All
windows users except Administrator seem to work properly. I have
Administrator in smbusers mapped to root:

username maps and security=ads
I have been having problems with username maps and security=ads.
I now have a solution (or at least a work around) that is working
for me. I sort of stumbled across it, as I don't recall reading
any samba docs that mentions the need to have the realm name
in the smbuser file.
Samba server is RHEL3 with samba-3.0.20 compiled from source
authenticating against a windows ADS.

Why is an extra 'home' dir showing up?
My question is, how come daevid (on XP) sees the following directories:
\\linux\dae51d
\\linux\homes
Shouldn't there just be the home dir only? Why does "\\linux\dae51d"
show up (I assume it's b/c that's who I am logged in as on XP which maps
to linux)? However, the fact that it does show up, shouldn't it be the
actual HOME directory of the linux user account dae51d (as

Cannot Lock /etc/smbpasswd
Fellow Samba Users:
This is my first attempt at running Samba. I recently came into
possession of an older Sun Sparc 2 with a 4.6G drive, so I thought to
myself ... great! I can run RH 6.0 and Samba on it and use it as a file
server. Seemed like a good idea.
I installed Redhat, and went right to work configuring Samba. After a
few hours I noticed that there was a newer version of Samba than
