missing dlls & exes?
Hi there: I'm sorry to bring it up again but anybody knows what my problem might be? I'm getting annoyed with this. I can logon on samba, assign drives from a batch file (logon script) and it looks normal but at log level 3 I see these messages. 7 user groups: 100 16 51 52 53 54 56 [2003/02/10 10:40:42, 3] smbd/vfs.c:vfs_ChDir(574) vfs_ChDir to /home/ash [2003/02/10 10:40:42, 3]

missing .dlls .exes?
Hi there; I have samba-2.2.7a installed as PDC for Windows2K, XP, 98 (have not tested yet. It appears to work with 2K and XP. However, I have a few problems and I'd appreciate your comments. 1) net time \\linux /yes takes 30-40second on both 2K and XP 2) logging in on the server gives me the following errors: unix_clean_name [/wshENU.DLL] unix_clean_name [wshENU.DLL]

Can't follow DFS link
Hi, I am using 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06. I'm trying to setup a DFS root. Here is the smb.conf share section: [test] path=/var/test writable=yes msdfs root=yes The /var/test contains a single symlink: $ ls -l /var/test total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2007-05-22 14:56 pdf -> msdfs:cladms004\pdf On a Win2K client I can connect to \\cladms004\pdf successfully. I can also access the test

Sluggish server response
A user who had not been using the server for about half an hour had to wait for over a minute before the samba server would respond. This is using samba3-server-3.0.2a-2mdk. I hope to upgrade to 3.0.4 as soon as Buchan has the RPM ready. In the below log, the user tried to log in at about 10:27 or so. I think I'm not learning anything from this log, so I've also attached part of

Problem accessing SWAT with Firefox
Hi, not sure if I'm posting in the right place but couldn't find a SWAT forum. I've just changed my PC but the new one has exactly the same settings (IP, computername, login, password) as the old one, however I am getting an error when I try to access any of my Samba servers from Firefox (2.0.0.3) :- " 400 Server ErrorSamba is configured to deny access from this client Check

XP clients unable to read user profiles (2.2.3a-14.1)
Hi everyone, thanks to John Terpstra's hint (teh old thread started with Msg crn5v6$sh8$1@sea.gmane.org), our xp clients now do join the domain :-). However, they still fail to read user profiles which were created by the old Win98 clients. The relevant parts of smb.conf look like this: ---------------------------- begien smb.conf ---------------------------- [global] domain

Problem saving files from XP to Samba on 2.2.6pre2
Hi team, I've got a problem with a WinXP client being unable to save a document to a Samba share. The server is running 2.2.6pre2 (on FreeBSD 4.6). The XP client hangs for a VERY long time when attempting to save a file (at least the first file saved - the problem seems to diminish for subsequent saves/files). Turning the debug level to 3 produces the following messages (repeated many many

Assertion failure in do_get_write_access() at fs/jbd/transaction.c:746
I guess this could be filed under the 'shot myself in the foot' section, but I figured I'd report it anyways.. Kernel 2.5.50-bk6, x86, preempt, PIIX IDE, ext3 fs. I dd'ed the first part of a ext3 partition to tmp, then mounted it via loopback. Samba DC issue.
Hello, I'm trying to use samba (Version 2.2.3a-6 for Debian) as a DC for a windows 2000 pro network. Everything seems to work OK, except the roaming profiles. Every few days (I haven't locked down a pattern yet) all machines connected to the server loose their connection, and no one can connect again until the server is rebooted. I'm using log level 3, and this is what log.smbd

PATCH: Samba/Win2K renaming bug
Hi there. I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.1 + kernel 2.4.17. My girlfriend's laptop is running Windows 2000 + service pack 2. She has about a thousand MP3s stored on a Samba share on my RedHat machine. We were finding that she couldn't rename any MP3s on the Samba share: she would always get a sharing violation. After a day of reading Samba logs at debug 10 (_such_ fun [ ;)

Windows XP printer status, samba and cups
Hi all, I am trying to get decent printer status without timeouts in windows xp (no sp1 installed). When I installed the printer it gave access denied, unable to connect but it printed the test page fine. I rebooted, logged in as normal user and tried to access the printer configuration folder. It took a long while but in the end it gave an ok status on the particular printer, when opening the

Failure to update roaming profile on Samba domain
I have been having an odd problem for some time now and have tried many things to get rid of it, but it has been awhile since I worked on it so I'm starting new on this hoping to finally find a solution. The problem is: Certain users will always get two errors while logging out. All users have roaming profiles, but the problem seems to only show up if users have files on their desktop. Not

Can't write to a samba share...
I have a Red Hat 8.0 PC with a scanner connected and I am scanning images with sane. I would like to store the scanned images on a Red Hat 7.3 file server using Samba, but I am having some difficulty understanding how the file and directory security preferences work. I can attach to the share (called "Shared") with: smbmount //server/Shared /mnt/S -o username=username%password and

Samba 2.2.8a and HP-UX 11.11 (11i)
I read a message from the archives that describes nearly our exact problem that has begun to appear after 11i was installed on our server. File access has become slow and unreliable, especially under high loads. As a matter of fact, I had a logon script running a series of echo -- it was executing them at about 1 line every 2 seconds. The way we "solved" the problem was moving the Samba

How Is Administrator Treated?
I have a couple of Samba 2.2 servers, in different locations, configured as NT Domain Controllers, but I'm experiencing some problems with logging on to the domains as Administrator in order to perform some administration tasks, such as configuring antivirus software on workstations. I won't go into the details here; I think the basic problem is my lack of understanding of how the

Win2k Dlls & iTunes
Hi! I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but I'm new here. I copied all of the dlls and exes from a new win2k c:/windows/system32 to ~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/system32, and I set winecfg to use all native dlls (except kernel32, user32, gdi32, and ntdll). When I try to install iTunes (6.0.4 I think), it says that I need to be that administrator. It doesn't do that without

troubleshooting kernel crash?
I'm getting kernel crashes on a new machine since it went into production some weeks ago. How can I troubleshoot this? I suspect a hardware problem, but I know too few about the kernel and kernel debugging on Linux to know how I can nail this down with debugging software. Just for reference of what kind these oopses are I quote the last two. The symptom is that the machine stops
