I just installed samba 2.2.7 on Mandrake 9 with OpenLDAP support. I have set up OpenLDAP and everything is cool. When I try to add a user I get: [root@luna openldap]# smbpasswd -a jim New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction: Connect error Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction: Connect error Failed to add entry for user jim. I am trying to change some ACLs on some files and directories. I have samba binaries with acl support compiled in. I am using an XFS filesystem. The Mandrake kernel supports acls by default. When I right click on the file in Windows explorer and change the permissions, I get an access denied error. If I use smbcacls, I get the following: [root@luna tmp]# smbcacls //luna/tmp test.txt -U jim -A

Does anybody know more about groups? I am considering switching from NT to Samba domain and have made some test. Unfortunately I need to make two additional groups, except Domain Admin (one of them is Domain Users). Is it possible to make that with the stable version of Samba? Hi! I'd like to setup a Samba server which should do user authentication against an Active Directory. Our AD admins told me, that we do not have Window NT 4.0 Domains available. What I'm trying to accomplish, is that the users can login with the same username/password they use with the AD. Also, if the password is changed in the AD, this change should be reflected on the Samba server.

If I'm not mistaken, the sign or seal hack from samba2.2.3 is broken. Use the newer hack or manually modify your registry. Hi everybody, I've upgraded from 2.2.1 to 2.2.3a. I've downloaded the zip file - unzipped it in /root/tmp/Samba - run "./configure" - run "make" - run "make install". Everything went well. Restarted Linux and checked the version in swat. It still was 2.2.1. Samba was running when I installed 2.2.3a. What did I do wrong?? Thanks Kris Vandaele Adecco

I've just done a update of Samba from 2.2.4 to 2.2.6. After installing everything it says some files were modified, ie smb.conf, and gives you the option to view the changes. It removed all my shared folders, removed settings from 'global' and changed lines for cups and other bits and pieces. Some changes are highlighted in green and the ones it removes are in red with '-'

I did it all again. The samba workstation account smb_cl is all right. My problem is that after I have joined my samba domain the domain logon does not work. At the logon prompt on my Win XP it says - that no domain controller is available or - that my machine account was not found. We will setup a vpn, we also know the ports to open but the real question is if there is any parameter to increase the timeout period when the windows machines decide that there is no "share" at the other end....
