Joining WinXp to Samba PDC
After trying to get WinXP (Pro) to try and find my domain so I can log on I've finally done it, but now when I try and join my WinXP client to the domain, windows asks me to enter the username and password of an account with permission to join the domain. Now which account would this be?? root doesn't work, neither do my other samba users. Do I have to create another user or something?

How do I upgrade from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8
Samba List Serve Users: Is there a document or web link that follow that describes the steps to upgrade Samba from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8? The documentation on samba.org the I have read assumes that the install is a fresh install and not an upgrade. Thanks so much, Mark Roth Systems Engineer Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Samba 3.0 + AD + OpenLDAP
Hi everyone! I've already deployed samba-2.2.7a-2 and enabled openLDAP support. I now have a machine configured as a domain controller authenticating all windows users via openLDAP. openLDAP is also authenticating all of our linux users. I would like to install Exchange2000 on a windows2000 machine so our windows users can do calendaring (sendmail already handles all of our email needs).

I am using OpenLDAP 2.0.27-3 and the unsable packaged Samba version 2.999+3.0 and am using the samba.schema for my LDAP database. Whenever I try to join the network using either W2K or smbclient the LDAP debug log shows that the following filter is being

I am running Samba 3.0 HEAD with LDAP 2.0. I have ldapsam enabled buy when I try to log into my server from a W2K machine I get the following in my error log: sam_password_ok: NO NT password stored for user root. which ACL attributes are supported by Samba?
I've tried to determine this empirically, but have run foul of config issues that won't be resolved in the immediate future. Basically, I know that Samba + ACL + an acl-aware filesystem will allow me to assign unix-style permissions to arbitrary groups of people for a given file. However, Windows has additional permissions: delete, take ownership, and, um, I think possibly one or two more.

Another consultant came along and installed a VPN using SonicWalls between the main site and a remote site. So now they want the remote users to save files on my Samba box. No problem except that the remote users can't see my local workgroup or any of the local machines. Here's
