Hi All, Well, i've managed to enable some debugging in syslog, I had to put in /etc/syslog.conf ;*.debug on the syslog line. So at least I have an error which is being returned into syslog from winbind. After trying to get WinXP (Pro) to try and find my domain so I can log on I've finally done it, but now when I try and join my WinXP client to the domain, windows asks me to enter the username and password of an account with permission to join the domain. Now which account would this be?? root doesn't work, neither do my other samba users. Do I have to create another user or something?

I thought that it was quite impossible to do that due to the Domain SID as well as the SAM list that currently Samba is unable to retrieve. (Not that it would have helped me any, since our old NT 4.0 PDC took a major Hardware failure.) How would one duplicate the SID, is that possible with 'smbpasswd -S' from the new Samba DC? See i need to do the following; mount -t smbfs //<machine_name>/<share> /home/<usr_name>/music ...only thing is, I have to run the cmd as a regular user.
