I was under the impression that this is a good list. But maybe that isn't the case. I have asked multiple questions and have done tons of research before hand and tried to be as specific as possible. So far I haven't received any answers. All I wanted was information on getting a NT server to accecpt connections from UNIX. The documentation is to clumsy and very hard to read. The

AIX 4.3.3 smbd won't start
Hello, I have just downloaded Samba 2.2.7.a and I have tried to set it up on AIX 4.3.3 and am not having luck. Last week I installed samba on my linux machine and it works pretty well. The boss asked on Friday if I could set it up on my AIX machine. I have samba installed in /usr/local/samba. After running /usr/local/samba/smbd -D and /usr/local/samba/nmbd -D I can do this ps -aef |

trouble adding share with restrictions
I am printing from linux to a printer attached to a win98 computer. I send a text file directly to the printer such as 'lpr -P BJC <file.txt>', the printer prints all the text as it should then fails to eject the last page and then goes off line. When I push the online button, it ejects the page and then is ready again. I am using a Cannon BJC4304. This printer supposedly can

Your post on Samba mailing list
Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific, I am printing from linux to a printer attached to a win98 computer. When I say text I mean when I send a text file directly to the printer such as 'lpr -P BJC <file.txt>'. When I say 'hang' what I mean is that the printer prints all the text as it should then fails to eject the last page and then goes off line. When I push

Hello everybody. I have a strange problem with cifs and Samba share. I have a Qnap NAS server (TS-109) and I would like to have a private share where I could keep my stuff and access them through Windows and Linux. But I have an odd problem and I can't tell what's wrong. I can write new files on a share, I can update them but I can't write on special occasions. And because of this

R_alloc problem (Mac OSX)
Hello. I'm having difficulties getting R_alloc() to work. The test platform is a 64-bit Mac running R 2.2.1 installed via a .dmg file obtained from the R site. Details are given below, in a level of detail that I hope is appropriate. My eye was particularly drawn to line #2 in the gdb 'where' output, but line #1 seems sensible so I may just be displaying my ignorance by

How to create a new variable based on parts of another character variable: A generalization
... Well, this works in this simple case, but is too clumsy for a general formulation of this problem: given a "dictionary" consisting of two character vectors of unique "names" (or two columns in a data frame), x and y, how does one convert a factor z with levels in x into the corresponding equivalent with levels in y? There are likely a zillion ways to do this with various

Enter the Queue name and hit TAB - this will automaticall chamge the spool directory name to match what you just entered as a name. How can I tell which users are currently connected?
I am running RHL 7.2 with Samba 2.2.3a using a W2K DC for authentication via winbind. From the linux box, how can I find out which users are currently connected to my box via Samba? This would help a lot when I need to reboot the server or restart the samba service because of changes that need to immediately go into effect. Thanks Kevin Bramblett

Desktop-operations in Metacity and Compiz.
Hello, I'm developing a fancy screenshot application for the GNOME-desktop using GTK and GDK libraries (and some Xlib stuff too). When taking a screenshot of a window, my code first finds out in which desktop the window lies (resides) and then moves to that desktop and takes a screenshot. This is quite easy to do under the Metacity window manager, but I cannot make this work right in Compiz

Major Printing Failure Problem
Hi everyone, I am using Samba 2.2.3a on a Redhat Linux 7.2 Intel server as a printserver on a W2K PDC network. I have a Xerox 440 printer, an HP 4500 PS and an HP 4550 PS printer using my Samba printserver. I am often receiving the following error message: ERROR: syntaxerror OFFENDING COMMAND: STACK: at which point printing stops and the printers start saying TIMEOUT. Sometimes I can reprint
