[despammed] RE: multidimensional function fitting
If something like the second-order function does not fit your data well, it may well be that the data do not admit a simple structure that you can easily code in C. If you expect the structure of the function to be simple, tell gam() so by specifying a small dimensional basis (via the k= argument in s()). This will probably ease the computational burden. [despammed] RE: multidimensional function fitting
You can use R objects, such as the return from gam, and the predict.gam function, from C. See the R extensions manual. Reid Huntsinger -----Original Message----- From: RenE J.V. RedHat 6.2 RPMs vs OpenSSL 0.9.6
Hi! I'm writing to signal a problem with RehHat Linux 6.2 RPMs for openssh 2.5.1p2. They need exclusively openssl = 0.9.5a ( not ">=" ) while 0.9.6 is the latest versions of OpenSSL. I wonder if there is a problem with openssl 0.9.6. Or maybe binaries compiled with 0.9.6 support aren't compatible with those built with 0.9.5a ? By the way, I've rebuild the RPMs on my

DBI question. How do I load a database with data parsed from REXML?
I wrote a rexml script that parses rather big xml files (DOM parsing) and builds an object out of them. This is what it looks like after i parse the xml file and display the object: [#<Article:0xb79e7428 @brand="This is a story from ", @id=5337, @fblurb="burb", @ntype="news type here", @copy="Copyright \302\251 2006 ", @source="source",

InfoWeek Article on VOIP
Here's t link: http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=JUEFVG ENEA01YQSNDBCCKH0CJUMEKJVN?articleID=165702588 The bottom line is that they compare retail VOIP providers like Comcast Cable, Time-Warner Cable, AT&T, Vonage, Packet8 et al. Their methodology seems sound. Their conclusion is that retail VOIP services don't yet match the PSTN for reliability &

Asterisk Viruses?
The Skype network is circulating a virus that has appeared there before: http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=198500135 . The virus sends a URL to other Skype users in the infected user's contacts, which the target Skype displays as clickable. Clicking downloads the virus. Hey, just came across this article. http://www.eetimes.com/news/latest/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=ZLCZZJMVGJYNYQSNDLSCKHA?articleID=201202250 . Many of you would be already aware of this. It mentions flac also. i feel it is a good segment(stereo wireless headsets over bluetooth) to push flac given very light decoder and using encoder at low compression(to reduce complexity). Directory listing delay with WinXP and IPtables
Sorry if this has been covered before. I setup a new Samba server using RedHat EL 3, and samba 3.0.2-6.3E (the version that comes with Redhat). We were seeing an intermittant 20 seconcd delay when grabbing a directory listing, but only from XP, win 2k was fine. I couldn't completely nail down when the delay occured but it seemed to be when the directory or share hadn't been accessed

SharpEye: www.visiv.co.uk
I have been running SharpEye under Wine for a few weeks now. There are a couple of problems 1) The fonts don't always appear correct. Sometimes they correctly show as Arial, sometimes as SmallCaps 2) Can't get TWAIN to work - see earlier message 3) The pull down menus display as XMFile etc. instead of File etc. The author of SharpEye says this is a bug in Wine. -Nigel -- Nigel Horne.
