- Win2k local groups and domain groups on linux PDC
I am currently running Samba 2.2.4 on a RH 7.1 box acting as a PDC with two Win2k test clients attaching to it. Users authenticate to the PDC via an LDAP server running on the PDC and that works ok. I can also join the domain with no problems. What I am trying to accomplish is to have a domain user or better yet a group of domain users, be able to log into the win2k box and have the linux

- Domain Users and Windows 2000... Help
Can someone please tell me if it is possible to add a group on a linux PDC running Samba 2.2.4 to a windows 2000 clients local "Power Users Group" or any of the local windows 2k groups. I want certain people to be in the Power Users Group on 2K, but I don't want to have to add each domain user individually to that local win2k group, I want to add a domain group to the win2k group.

MS Access and Samba Problem
hello,
I hope someone can help me with this problem because it is really unique
and odd... or at least it seems to me. I can't find any references
anywhere as to anyone else having the same trouble.
Here is the story:
I have a machine running RH 7.1 and samba 2.2.3a as our PDC for the
Network. This box also serves other purposes such as Name server, dhcp
server, internal web server, and

Smbd processes out of control
In the past few months we have seen a couple of our production servers
crash that are running samba-3.0.14a-1. What seems to happen is the
smbd pid's seem to grow and grow until an out of memory error occurs and
the smbd process just hangs. A simple restart does not even clear out
the pid's. I end up rebooting to just clear it all out and start
fresh. It probably has happened at

loading printers
I just configured a server to use the CUPS printing system and have all
my printers shared out by Samba. I made all the necessary changes to
the smb.conf file but don't want to restart samba in the middle of the
day since it is a high traffic server and don't want to break
connections. Is there a way to just have samba load all these printers
without restarting the service????

WinXP Pro domain join OK -- add domain users to local groups NOT
Good day everyone and sorry to add to the traffic with one more
(possibly stupid) question.
I have the following problem which I could reproduce with both Samba
2.2.7 and 2.2.8 and with about 5 clients. I install WindowxXP Pro
(w/SP1), I modify "RequireSignOrSeal=0", I join the domain (using a
'root' account that is present in smbpasswd and whose password I know)

I'm sorry to repost this one but it seemed to get no attention the first
time it was posted ... here it goes, again:

Smbd hanging
Problem
------------
SMBD processes spawn out of control until the Samba stops responding.
Restarting the service does not clear the processes. Only a reboot of
the server will bring it back to a usable state.
This server is home to our postgres databases, Access front ends, and
Production Files (excel, word...). It is a samba domain member server.
We have multiple Samba file servers

smbpasswd to LDAP
Is there a way to take users samba passwords from an old 2.x Samba server, and
insert them into a new 3.x Samba server that using an LDAP backend? The new
server is already populated with all users and groups in LDAP and is currently
on a test network. All that is needed is the users samba passwords from the
old server that is using the smbpasswd file.
Thanks

samba and domain local groups
Quick question about Samba and Domain Local groups.
Ive got a Samba 3.0.7 server (redhat 8) as a domain member of a 2K
Domain in native mode. (security = domain).
Std Windows group mgmt says:
Users are members of Global Groups.
Global Groups are members of local groups
Local Groups control access to resources.
So ive got a Domain Local group I want to use to restrict access to a
samba share:

read.xport issues
We are trying to read a sas export file into R. (Works fine on Mac by ftping the export file from solaris box and then importing to R with read.xport, this gives rational numbers etc.)
Trying to do this on an IBM Power p655 running linux, reading the same sas export file as used on MAC, in this case the results are not rational. Many of the numbers are interpreted as INF etc. Is it possible

domain users in local groups
Can I actually create a "Domain Users" group on my samba server and add
users to it like I did with the Domain Admins group? That would be easier
than adding each user individually on each folder that they need to
access... (It's always easier to add DOMAIN\Domain Users instead of
DOMAIN\User1 DOMAIN\User2...etc)
Or just add Domain Users to the local Power Users group.

adding AD domain users in local Linux group for acces to share
Hello,
It seems that domain user can access share when they are specified in "valid list" but not when
"valid list" use local group definition.
First if added the domain user "duser" to the group "lgroup" in /etc/group
Then i defined a samba share and add the domain user "duser in the "valid list"
[lgroup]

help on drawing right colors within a grouped xyplot (Lattice)
Hi,
I've lost my mind on it... I have to scatterplot two vectors, grouped by a third variable, with two different dimensions according to whether each cell line in the plot is sensitive or resistant to a given drug, and with a different color for each of 9 tissues of origin.
Here's what I've done:

Hanging SMBD processes - Samba CRASHING
Hi folks,
We have been experiencing problems with one of our Samba servers here
for a while now and need a little help. First off we are running Fedora
Core 3, kernel version 2.6.12-1, and Samba version 3.0.20b. Our hardware
is a RAID 5 DELL PowerEdge 700 server. The problem I am about to
describe has occurred on this server in previous versions of samba prior
to version 3.0.20b and has the

Teasing out logrank differences *between* groups using survdiff or something else?
R Folk:
Please forgive what I'm sure is a fairly na?ve question; I hope it's clear.
A colleague and I have been doing a really simple one-off survival analysis,
but this is an area with which we are not very familiar, we just happen to
have gathered some data that needs this type of analysis. We've done quite
a bit of reading, but answers escape us, even though the question below

problem with groups when adding windows workstation to domain
I am trying to implement my Samba 3.3.3 running on FreeBSD 7.1 as a PDC.
Since I am new to Samba I am using some "adopted" sample configurations and
my is similar to shown here: http://www.mrp3.com/windows-to-unix-samba.html
I have two problems and hope to get some help from all of you:

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from
RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM
and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use
RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use
Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works
Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

Cannot add Domain Groups to Local Groups (D Users OK)
I have searched the globe but alas I can't come up with a solution.
I am running Debian 3.0r0 with samba 2.2.3a12-3 (or something around
there)
and Kernel 2.4.18.
Basically I am trying to add a Domain Group to a Local Group, but when I
do I get an error (From Windows 2000):
"A member could not be added to or removed from the local group because
the member does not exist"

Do Domain Local groups work via 'valid users = "@dom\Group Name"'?
Hi there
We have a bunch of Samba 3.0.24 servers that use winbind to integrate
into an existing Win2K3-based AD infrastructure. We have our own forest
(call it FOREST, with sub-domains "DOM1" and "DOM2") - but have
transitive and two-way trusts to other Win2K3 forests.
We have set up (under Windows) a bunch of "DOM1" Domain Local Groups
containing a mixture of
