Sigh....ok once more with feeling
The firewall didnt help matters. I think its FUBAR and I need to reformat anyways, so ill reformat and reinstall and put fresh SAMBA up, on Mandrake 9.0. The system has 2 NICs and NET_MASQ shares internet to the XP machine. Therein it acts as a DHCP server and has a firewall. I will open 139 from the start next time.

Disappearing Shares?
I am new to Linux and running SuSE V8.0 with KDE desktop and Samba 2.2.7 on a small bnetwor5k which also has a Windows NT PC and a notebook. On the Linux PC's I have used LinNeighborhood to mount the various shares and can readily view files on the Linux PC's, or on the windoze machines. I have had a number of occasions where I have had to power down my main Linux PC, and far more

Feeling a little guilty...
This is the first time I have tried Centros and I must say that I am a very happy camper. But maybe my needs/goals are simple: I need HTTP and FTP servers that support Apache, PHP and Interbase (yes, that "funny" DB that runs and runs). RH 9 was like that and so was FC 3, BUT FC 4 was something else...could not even get it to install (like others). And this forum has been VERY

Can't reach Samba shares from Win XP Pro
This seems to be common enough problem. I've used a variety of methods (command line as well as utilities like LinNeighborhood) to mount XP shares on my RedHat 8.0 running Samba 2.2.7. I get consistent problems the other way around. Despite a couple of shares on my Linux partition, I am just unable to do get to it. Network Neighborhood shows my Linux/Samba server but no shares, nor can I

Problem with "include=smb.%U.conf"
Hi, Does anybody know why Windows clients can see shares that are defined by the "include=/etc/samba/smb.%U.conf" option in but Mac OS X and Linux Samba clients cannot see those shares? In other words, I have a bunch of users. Each user has a set of his/her own unique shares on my Linux server that are defined in files called: /etc/samba/smb.User1.conf /etc/samba/smb.User2.conf

Browsing between linux boxes
My problem appears to be too simple to be addressed in the documentation, being a linux-to-linux problem. This is a mixed home lan, but the majority of file sharing is done between three linux boxes. All three have a public directory, but the one on box1 is mainly used for file sharing. All of this worked well with our old Samba 2 setup, but has now gone to pieces. Two of the boxes are

Samba 3.0. Is nmblookup broken?....
Hi all, I installed Samba 3.0 a week or two ago and I'm finding out that some things that used to work with 2.2.8a don't work in 3.0. LinNeighborhood used to work with just a setting of "-" in the "Preferences" -> "Scan Preferences" -> "Workgroup" box. Now, with 3.0 I must have a "Primary master browser" set, (the name of the

Okay I am confused
I allowed my RedHat Linux box to join the W2K domain, by adding the Netbios name and Ip into the W2K AD Domain Controller. Now I have a fully functioning file and print server. When I browse Network Neighborhood from a W2K client box on the same domain, I see my user, a test Share that I have created, and Printers. Even though I have no printers. How do I turn off the printers. Also. My

Authentication problem?
LAN - mixed architecture - 2 x win98, 1 x winME, 1 x win2k, 3 x Mandrake Linux 10.0. Most samba activity is between the Mdk boxes, file-moving, etc. Versions - Mandrake 10.0, with all updates applied, Samba 3.0.6-4.1 I had a properly working lan, with occasional problems between box1 and box2 (Mdk boxes). Now I have no connection between them, for file-sharing purposes, at all. Box3,

Slow browsing windows shares from linux/samba
Hello all I have been searching around the internet and even used the searchable samaba mailing list archive. It seems I have a rare case of where my problem is reversed to the common slow samba problem. My problem is this: I have a network of 3 PCs, one Linux 2 Windows XP. They are connected via a hardware router (switched) on the 190.190.1.0 network. On the linuxbox I have a collection of

What are controller modules *for*?
I am aware that controllers can be placed in modules: ruby script/generate controller modulename/controllername But what does this buy me? Is it just a way of ensuring that my source code is nicely arranged, or can I use the fact that a set of controllers are all within a particular model to implement functionality common to all of those controllers? Why am I asking? The app
