Found MS-Word 97 & Samba bug : diagnostic found!
Hi all,
I have a bug with Version 2.2.3a-12 for Debian GNU/Linux (custom 2.4.20
kernel with aacraid support (DELL PowerEdge 1650 with RAID mirror, etc)):
Some users have, SOMETIMES, a READ ONLY set on files, where no one
except them use this files.
I'm in oplocks=false because of MS-Excel 97 issues, and, no need of fast
performances at the moment (<10 users).
I put a /home/public

Problem with SWAT
Hi,
I have just installed Suse Linux 6.1 along with Samba version 2.0.3
I can ping the machine (192.168.1.10) and I can reach the Apache Webserver
with my browser. There are no specialties on 'Hosts deny' or 'Hosts allow'.
Testparm does not report any errors either. But I cannot reach

on this one?

How important are oplocks?
Hello,
I'm wondering just how critical it really is to turn off oplocks. It appears
that not only Windows 2k server, but also Netware 5 and above defaults to
having these enabled.
I just spoke with two software companies running databases off of file servers
(no database server, just MDAC stuff), and they had never heard of it, much
less require it to be disabled. Everything I've

longevity of ruby on rails
Hi,
I have recently added Ruby on Rails to my repertoire and as I start a
new project, I find myself wondering: Why are so many of the postings
I find as I search for help from 2006-2009?
Should I start my new project with RoR, ASP.NET, Python/Django, Zen?
Is RoR thriving or dying?

ConfBridge details
running Asterisk 1.8.9.0-rc2, what are the ways to interface with
ConfBridge ?
I see the CLI command 'confbridge' documented for asterisk 10, but i
dont see how to interface with confbridge on 1.8
What I'm trying to do is keep track of conferences that are used.
I tried something like the below, but not only does Confbridge not
return, but i'd need something that erases the

Problem with save or/and if (I think but maybe not ...)
Hi,
I recently discovered the R program and I thought it could be useful to me.
I have to analyse data saved as .Px file (x between 0 and 8 - .P0 files have
18 lines at the beginning that I have to skip). New files are generated
everyday.
This is my strategy :
In order to analyse the data, I first want to copy the new data in a
database in MySQL (which already contains the previous data).

install bug with specific JPEG library by exporting CPPFLAGS variable
Hi there,
I think I have found a small problem in the
"/my/path/R-2.0.1/src/modules/X11/MakeFile" generation.
During the configure step, I have specified a specific JPEG library by
exporting CPPFLAGS variable.
All compilation works well for individual files in the src/modules/X11/
directory, but when linking, the -ljpeg option doesn't work.
I obtain the following message (in french

NEWBIE : Problem saving M$ word documents on samba file server
Hi,
The users of my company's NT4 domain have their home drives located on a RH8
machine running Samba 2.2.7.
Anytime a user saves a Microsoft Office document from a windows 2000 client
to their home drive they lose write and execute permissions. Thus users can
no longer edit their files (a serious problem!). I want users to have RWX
permissions on their own files but it appears that office is

tan(mu) link in GLM
Hi Folks,
I am interested in extending the repertoire of link functions
in glm(Y~X, family=binomial(link=...)) to include a "tan" link:
eta = (4/pi)*tan(mu)
i.e. this link bears the same relation to the Cauchy distribution
as the probit link bears to the Gaussian. I'm interested in sage
advice about this from people who know their way aroung glm.
