libpopt.so.0 Issue
Evening; Just installed Samba on my solaris 9 server at home and am having difficulties. When I try to check out the option file using testparm, it always brings back the message : ld.so.1: ./testparm: fatal: libpopt.so.0: open failed: I can't find the library libpopt.so.0 anywhere on the system. Apparently , I forgot to load something. Can anyone help me in finding where I can

Samba 3.0 + AD + OpenLDAP
Hi everyone! I've already deployed samba-2.2.7a-2 and enabled openLDAP support. I now have a machine configured as a domain controller authenticating all windows users via openLDAP. openLDAP is also authenticating all of our linux users. I would like to install Exchange2000 on a windows2000 machine so our windows users can do calendaring (sendmail already handles all of our email needs).

Disabling symlink following client side?
Is there any way to specify in smb.conf that you don't want to follow symbolic links, or to somehow disable this in smbclient? I have an smb file indexer, and whenever it hits a linux box with a symlink pointing to the current directory, it creates thousands of extra entries. I'd like to be able to simply not follow symbolic links, as I have no way of disabling the "follow

About Shorewall 1.3.14
It is my plan that the upcoming release of Shorewall (1.3.14) will definitely be the last of the 1.3.x releases and will very probably be the last release of Shorewall 1.x.x. I will continue to support Shorewall 1.3 but will be making no more enhancements to it. I will be devoting my time to Shorewall 2. If anyone is interested in taking over the development of Shorewall 1, please let me

Mapping samba shares to a second linux box
Hi, I have a very frustrating problem and I can't seem to find a solution. I am running redhat 8.0GPL and samba 2.2.8 on two linux boxes. The first linux box is my storage (used by multiple pc's). The second is my web-server running apache and php. The web-server recieves files which are meant to be stored to the first linux box and processed by other computers on the network. The

security = domain and NetBIOS aliases
Hi everyone, I rely on about 8 NetBIOS aliases on my samba filer. I have been using security = server, but I have been running to some strange issues where if a user just logs off and then back on, they are denied access to shares. If they reboot, they can then get back in ok. I've set debugging up, and it appears that samba does not recognize the user after a logoff/logon, and uses nobody as

Thanks for help with hosts file
All (Tom especially), Thanks for correcting my hosts file faux pas. I think I now (kinda) know how this file is used. Can I use this to control what subnets can get NAT''ed out and back through the net zone? For instance, with nothing in it every network inside can get out without a problem. If I do specify networks in it, is it true that only those specified can get out and back?

Special config needed to add other internal private class C nets?
Hi everyone, I have shorewall up and running fine, and have for well over a year now. Internally, we have a LAB and they need multiple separate private class C networks to do testing, etc. I built a router, so all of the private LANs can communicate - This seems to work fine. I''m confused about what do I need to modify on my FW to get everyone to communicate out, masq''ed to the

win/linux connect problem
hi.. I have samba 2.2.1a on Mandrake 8.1, 2.4.17. My problem is a user from remote Win2k workstation can't see my shares when he wants to access my PC using my hostname. When accessing using my ip address, it works.. The error message in W2K is 'This user is not authorized to log in from this station' - or something like that.. Here's a part of my config. The same (or almost

Access to shares for authenticated domain users only
I am running several samba servers (2.2.3a and 2.2.7) in various places as pdcs. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I can't find any way of restricting access to only those uses who have logged on to the domain. Is this possible? ie at the moment, any user can map a drive to \\server\share, put in a valid user/password pair and have access to that share without going through any

What's the best method - probably simple
Hi all, I'm testing out a pdf printer script I'm writing on a live samba system. I modify the script, but my changes do not seem to show up when I print. It seems like samba is caching the script. I do not want to restart samba (I'm guessing that will disconnect people), but I want to force samba to re-read the new script. I'm guessing I can HUP whatever smb process is open for

nmbd question
Hi everyone, I know that there are issues with NetBIOS across subnets, but I was wondering: Q: If I run nmbd on a multi-interface Linux router, and allow it to listen on all interfaces, and pointing all clients to their respective router interface, can it effectively serve WINS to all subnets such that everyone can browse everyone? Samba-3.0 and the --with-msdfs compile flag
Hi all, First, I'm no longer on the list, so please CC me if you reply to the group. I've hunted around, but I cannot find anything about this. The --with-msdfs compile flag is not present in ./configure --help. Is dfs built now by default? OR - is it no longer supported? Win2k domain, ACLs and permissions
Hi there, I have been trying to set up Samba 2.2.8 to connect to our Windows 2000 domain, and provide shares that support file permissions as a Win2K box would, under Red Hat 8.0. To that end I recompiled the kernel (2.4.20) with patches from acl.bestbits.org, enabling ext2 and ext3 EA and ACL support. I set up winbind, joined the domain OK, and got name resolution working pretty well. Everything

smbmount of Windows 2000/XP disregards uid option
Hello! I'm mounting Windows 2000/XP disk drives from Linux RedHat 7.3 using smbmount. No problems, the disks are mounted. However, it disregards the "uid" and "gid" options and leaves the smbfs owned by "root" giving the "uid" user read-only access and not read-write as expected. Adding the "rw" doesn't help either.

How to read NT Domain accounts from a Unix box
Hi, Is there any open way of reading user/group accounts of a NT Domain from a Unix box? I guess, rpcclient is more like a hack of MS protocol. Is it the only way currently? Can anyone give more information on this? Thanks in advance.
