auth. username rewriting?
Hello,
Now, I'm faced with a problem: I need to be able to login using the same
username that I bind against using ldapsearch, and not the
sAMAccountName given to me via winbind.
ie. to login using one of my AD usernames right now, I issue:
su - ADSDOMAIN+username1
but the binddn I use to search the ldap directory is, say, username2:
ldapsearch -x -W -D"username2"

Cannot read strange filenames
Hello List,
on a windows-pc are files with an EURO-Sign "?" included in the
filenames. This is working between all XP and 2000 Clients.
But if i try to access such a file from a linux-box, I cannot read this
files. I switched to the german charset with EURO Sign but no success.
Then i tried the cifs instead of smbfs. But the same effect. Switching
to UTF-8 doesn't work too.

LZ4 mailbox corruption
Hello,
When I look at email files on my server (mdbox format), they contain
random LZ4 stuff. I have now changed the compression to gzip and new
mails look cleaner. But older ones have problems.
A mail file looks like this:

4.9.12 operation unavailable without authentication
I have Samba in production (4.9.6-12 on Ubuntu 18.04) which is working well.
However, we are several releases behind so I am gearing up to upgrade to the latest 4.9 release.
As part of the preparations (and for other reasons), I spun up an upgraded DC cluster in our development environment (4.9.12-15 on Ubuntu 18.04).
The initial setup seemed to work and now I have two DCs that appear to be

Fail over using CHANAVAIL
I am trying to construct a macro for long distance dialling. I have two
internet feeds, I have all routes including Teliax on Internet A and a
static route to Voxee on Internet B. I thought I could use the dialplan
entry below which uses the ChanIsAvail() command to check the
connection, but this returns the provider but not the username, so I
don't understand how to use this for real

The network is on a wireless router (though the windows box and server are

I seemed to have everything working and was able to mount drives of any of
the computers on both of my FC 3 computers. I was also able to map shares

URGENT winbind problem
Hi all,
I have a strange problem with winbind. Samba says that "REALM<winbind seperator>username" is not a valid user (winbind getpw() call), but winbind works! The strange thing is when I call "wbinfo -u", the result is a AD-Userlist like this:
username1
username2
.
.
.
So far so good, but why not:
REALM<winbind seperator>username
The same problem occurs when

Samba as domain member server cannot authenticate users
This problem was already described on a very similar way in Oct 2004
on the following message:
As no solution was found so far, I am re-posting it on the hope that
somebody can help.
