XP irratic delay in opening files....
Hi all
I am fairly new to samba and XP. I have a client who we set up a samba
server for, they are complaining about documents taking about 30 secs
-2-3mins to open but only sometimes (it can be very frequent). I have
seen this and captured a piece of the log file I wonder if any one can
make any sense of it...
I have been looking on the net and trying various things all day but to
no avail...

Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6
I'm hoping someone has some insight into a problem I'm currenty having,
which is:
No one is able to edit (in place) documents with Word 2000 on a samba
(2.2.6) disk share. A user can open word and save a document to the
share, but when they go to edit the document Word says "Word cannot
complete the save due to a file permission error". From Microsoft KB
Q211632 it appears

Show stopper - 2nd cry for help
<Long Post, sorry!>
Folks, I have a really nasty problem preventing me from migrating a bunch of
NetWare 5 servers to Samba--attempts to copy large (> 2MB+) files to any
samba share results in an error. To clarify what I mean by "error":
1. I attempt to copy, using explorer, a 2MB+ file to any samba share.
2. A 30 second or so pause occurs (copying this file to any other

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list!
I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I
hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I
am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with
Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current)
against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I

Problem saving files from XP to Samba on 2.2.6pre2
Hi team,
I've got a problem with a WinXP client being unable to save a document to
a Samba share. The server is running 2.2.6pre2 (on FreeBSD 4.6).
The XP client hangs for a VERY long time when attempting to save a file
(at least the first file saved - the problem seems to diminish for
subsequent saves/files).
Turning the debug level to 3 produces the following messages (repeated

strange: failing upload of special profile-dirs
Hi to everyone,
Something quite strange occured to me this weekend as we wanted
to switch our network to w2k ads structure with a sambaserver as
main fileserver running winbind.
The windowsprofiles are supposed to reside on the sambaserver and
the client successfully loads the initial profile.
The first time the user logs on to his machine, he gets some
default .msi-softwarepackages assigned by

Samba DC issue.
Hello,
I'm trying to use samba (Version 2.2.3a-6 for Debian) as a DC for a windows
2000 pro network. Everything seems to work OK, except the roaming profiles.
Every few days (I haven't locked down a pattern yet) all machines connected
to the server loose their connection, and no one can connect again until the
server is rebooted. I'm using log level 3, and this is what log.smbd

Problem with a dos program running from a samba share.
I'm having troubles with a DOS program running from a samba 3 share.
When I close the program it tells:

I have increased smbd debug level and after retrying I have this in the log:

CentOS6.5 Samba 3.6.9 Windows8.1 login possible after 15 minutes after logoff
Hello,
in school We have CentOS6.5 server with Samba3.6.9 (default from
CentOS3.6.9 repository).
Clients are WinXP, Win7 and Win8.1, We use roaming profiles.
Everything is working perfect, except that when user logs off from
Win8.1 client, he is not able to log in for about 15 minutes to any
Win8.1 client at school. After 15 minutes it is possible again.
I do have pretty standard smb.conf, no

XP clients unable to read user profiles (2.2.3a-14.1)
Hi everyone,
thanks to John Terpstra's hint (teh old thread started with Msg
crn5v6$sh8$1@sea.gmane.org), our xp clients now do
join the domain :-).
However, they still fail to read user profiles which were created by
the old Win98 clients.
The relevant parts of smb.conf look like this:

samba, RedHat and Windows XP Home
Howdy. I'm running samba-3.0.2-2 (from the binaries on samba.org) on a
RedHat 9 box with kernel 2.4.20-28.9.
I can access shares from my Windows XP Home box, but the performance
isn't very good. When I looked into this, I discovered that apparently
the connections are getting dropped, over and over again, which causes a
lot more work, I'm sure. Here's a snippet from my main

Samba 2.2.8a and HP-UX 11.11 (11i)
I read a message from the archives that describes nearly our exact problem
that has begun to appear after 11i was installed on our server. File
access has become slow and unreliable, especially under high loads. As a
matter of fact, I had a logon script running a series of echo -- it was
executing them at about 1 line every 2 seconds. The way we "solved" the
problem was moving the Samba

Samba 3.0.2a - Erroneously rejects NTLMv2 but accepts NTLM
Hello experts,
I?ll try and keep this brief but detailed (if that?s possible.). I?m sure I
don?t understand the technologies sufficiently but I believe I?m seeing
counter-intuitive behavior with my Samba 3 setup. What I want is nice,
tight Win 2K3 security. What I?ve got is ADS integration, including domain
user authentication using winbind, but I can?t get the security level right.

Can't write to a samba share...
I have a Red Hat 8.0 PC with a scanner connected and I am scanning images with

using Samba, but I am having some difficulty understanding how the file and
directory security preferences work.
I can attach to the share (called "Shared") with:
