RedHat 7.3 smbmount
Hello,
I have a RedHat 7.3 workstation and have created a samba mount to my samba server. Everything seems to be working ok,
but when I reboot my RH workstation the mount is not reestablished. I believe the problem is that when I reboot the machine
the samba share is not unmounted. After rebooting the machine when I run smbstatus on the samba server it indicates the mount
is still active.

smbd and nmbd
Hi.
I'm getting messages to the effect:
Inetd: /usr/local/samba/lib/nmbd: Hangup
Last messages repeat 319 times
I start samba from inetd. Should I be starting it as a daemon or starting
it in init.d? If starting it as a daemon in in init.d, does someone have a
script that can let me use? I'm running samba on an a Sun E450, with
Solaris 2.7. Thanks.

mounts hanging during shutdown of system
I have a similar line in my network script, for the same reason.
THIS problem is different. I cannot umount those shares after the windows
machine goes down, no matter what commands I try.

can someone PLEASE tell me how to mount a share with all stuff world
Ok, on local machine, everyone can do anything they want in /share and all
it's files/subdirs
On remote machine, everyone can do whatever they want on /share, but no one
can do ANYTHING in it's subdirs.

File Permissions
I have set up Samba so that all users on my small network can read from my
one of my Linux shares as well as write to that share.
However, when user A saves a file to that share, user B can't open it -- and
vice versa. How can I set up samba so that all files written to that share can
be read, modified, and deleted by all users?
Thanks in advance for an answer to this question.

Looking for a script to add/remove multiple shares from smb.conf
Has anyone ever written a script to remove individual shares from the
smb.conf file? I am trying to put together a script that will add &
remove multiple shares at once by giving a <sharelist as input to the
script.
Adding shares is easy because I can just append the shares to the
smb.conf file, but removing individual share entries within the smb.conf
file without messing up the

Port 139 versus Port 445
I've noticed that my W2K clients connect to Samba much more quickly
if I run it on port 445 instead of 139. However, my WNT clients then
won't connect at all. I read somewhere that it was possible to forward
the requests on port 139 to port 445. Anyone know how to do this or how
to listen to both ports simultaneously?
Thanks,

Samba print command only works on restart, help!
hey
I am running Samba 2.2.8 on FreeBSD4.8, and all is working well, except:
I have set up a virtual printer using Samba to take a print job, turn it
into a pdf and then email it back to an address, using a perl script and the
Samba print command. I have tested the script logging in as the Samba guest
user and it works fine, but when i try to print to the printer it never
works: the script is

pre-/postexec in printers-section
Hi,
after updating our printserver from Samba V2.0.6 to V2.2.7 I encountered the
following problem.
Samba does not execute the (root) pre- and postexec within the printers
section.
If you are using these command in another section everything works fine.
Does anybody know if these command are not supported in the printers section
anymore?
smb.conf:
[global]
...
load printers = yes

Adobe Photoshop uses wrong permissions when saving, default A CLs and create mask being ignored.
Sorry, that should be RedHat 7.0. (Not that it should matter.)
-----Original Message-----
Client is Windows NT 4.0 SP6a and Adobe Photoshop 5.0. Server is RedHat
7.1, kernel 2.4.7 plus ACL 0.7.13. Samba 2.2.2.

Shortened sharenames
Doing a little shell scripting with smbclient and noticed that
smbclient -N -L host
only displays the first 13 charachters of the sharename.
Since that is totally crippled feel like I must be missing something
obvious, but can't track it down. Any pointers on getting FULL sharenames
using smbclient?
Thanks for the help

Printing - "lprm command" not getting executed
I am attempting to get printing services for Windows 2000 clients working
with Samba on a Red Hat 7.2 box. The problem is I can not cancel print jobs
(either from a PC or the local smb client). File sharing, and printing
other than this problem, work fine.
Here is a listing of configuration and system info: 1) the samba packages
installed, 2) output of "uname -a", 3) the

Printers Always Paused - A Solution
I had a problem with Samba 2.2.5 with the printers being
permanantly paused to Windows machines. They could print OK - it
was only the status that was wrong.
The reason for this was because I had used the word office in the
printer name / comment. This was causing the parser which
recognises the printer status to find 'off' pausing the printer.
A quick fix for this is to replace the
