problem with logon and outlook
I had a problem logging on to the network, it was not getting my roaming
profile, so I created a new logon and copied all of the information from the
old profile directory to the new login profile directory. I logged on and
everything seemed okay, it's like loggin on to the machine for the first
time. When I start up MS Outlook my email account is not there, it asks me

please help...
i have the following problem, the outlook express & desktop settings are
being overwritten every time i change the host. i was helped by Laurent

samba pdc/roving profiles/encrypted passwords
It is my understanding that roving profiles cannot be implemented without using encrypted passwords. It is also my understanding that encrypted passwords cannot be implemented without pointing smb.conf to a windows password server.
I'm trying to set up a samba server on a Linux (RedHat 7.3) to act as a PDC and a provider for roving profiles - when I do things with cleartext (encryption

How to use local profiles in samba PDC?
How do you enable local profile creation on machines connected to a samba PDC?
I thought it would be automatic, but it doesn't seem to be. If there
isn't a roving profile, windows complains it can't find your profile
on the server, then instead of creating a local one, it throws up this
message:
"Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a

Set a login script but no profile?
Hello,
I am so close!!! So far I have a Samba PDC that machines and users can log
into, but here's the deal: I would like to find out how to allow them to log
on and receive their login script, but not use a roving profile.
Here are my relevant settings as they are set right now:
; logon drive = x:
; logon home = "\\Gluon\Gluon G"
; logon path = \\Jupiter\Profile\%U

losing access to profile when user becomes domain user instead domain admin
Hi,
I am in the process of migrating our windows workstations to a samba domain.
Here is the problem:
When creating the domain user I put every user additionalyy in the
domain admin group so that he/she can copy his old files on the local
profile to his new domain account.
Then after this is done I put them to the domain users group but some
(!) of the user the lose then access to the

Attached the computer to the domain.
Logged into the computer as a Domain Administrator.
Gone to my computer -> user profiles.

Upgrading from 2.2.3a to 2.2.7a concerns
All:
Before I actually go and take the plunge on performing this upgrade I would
like to find out if there are any caveats I should be aware of. I am using
RedHat 7.3 and have been using the pre-installed Samba since I began
upgrading our network to Samba about 4 months ago. I plan on using the
2.2.7a rpm from Samba.org and would like to know if any of you have done
this and whether or not

roaming profiles problem for new users
Due to hardware failure we had a rushed migration from a Samba v3.0.9 on
FreeBSD 4, to v3.0.10 on Mandrake Linux 10.1. Since then I have had
problems getting roaming profiles to work for new users. Things works
fine for existing users, but things are broken for new ones. The setup
is a fairly standard Samba PDC with Windows XP clients.
When users added since the upgrade log in, they then do

How to enforce the client to download the profile from the server
Thanks a lot for your help. The problem is partially solved. However, for
the Samba Server not to overwrite the profile, I have to delete the
exclusion list every time I logout from the client, i.e. ntuser.ini is
being
written back to the server every time i logout with the same Exclusion
List,
although I changed it before login in. Could you please tell me where can

Help needed with Windows7 roaming files.
Hi all,
We've been trying to setup/upgrade a samba PDC (version 3.56) with OpenLDAP
as backend and roaming profiles for Windows7 (32bit) Clients. windows7 has
no problem
with login after applying the reg patches, however, it seems to always load
a temporary profile as opposed to roaming one for users, no local profile
is created.
this has caused Outlook 2010 to function improperly

Roaming profiles
I want to setup a linux box with samba as a file and print server for a
LAN of 20 NT 4.0 SP3 workstations. I want the home direcotories to be on
the server the clients to have roaming profiles.
For this, do I have to make the linux box a domain controller? I want to
avoid it if I can, because the domain control code in not on the
production releases. I don't want to setup an NT server either.
