Troubleshooting Samba - (2)
I am running SuSE V8.0, and Samba 2.2.7a on a small network server. I have been having problems relating to sorting out printing from an NT4 workstation to a laser printer on the Samba server. I had to reboot my Windoze PC and am logged in as myself (I have Administrator rights). I can see the shares by looking for the computer from Windows explorer using the ip 192.168.0.5 and can proceed

Disappearing Shares?
I am new to Linux and running SuSE V8.0 with KDE desktop and Samba 2.2.7 on a small bnetwor5k which also has a Windows NT PC and a notebook. On the Linux PC's I have used LinNeighborhood to mount the various shares and can readily view files on the Linux PC's, or on the windoze machines. I have had a number of occasions where I have had to power down my main Linux PC, and far more

Printing NT to Linux printer problem
Using SuSE V8.0 Samba 2.2.7a on a small network I have a Lexmark laser printer attached to the Linux PC, using Cups 1.1.15. I was able to print from Linux OK, and some months ago had setup the Win NT PC to print across the network to the laser. So all was well. Recently I had a couple of problems with the NT machine (the usual BSOD's etc) also had a couple of problems with the SuSE PC

Runaway nmbd Process - Help!
I am running SuSE V 8 with KDE 3 and had a memory problem when the screen would lose icons, taskbars etc. I am very much a newbie and everything was going along smoothly, even managed to get Cups up and running and printing across the small Lan to a windows printer. The problem is being caused by nmbd starting up in a loop causing dozens of instances to run each with their own PID until such

Share shows up but is not accessible.
In Windows explorer the computer (Penguin) and share (Ring) show up, but when I try to access the share, I get the following message: \\Penguin\Ring is not accessible The share name was not found. Be shure you typed it correctly. I have Samba set up on another Linux machine (OldPenguin) in the same network, and it works fine. Both computers run Red Hat 7.1 and Samba 2.0.7 (which came

samba 4 member server in WIn 2008 domain, wbinfo fails

sendmail maillog rotation on centos 4
Hi, I'm trying to figure out which process is rotating my maillog every Sunday at 4:03 am. This happens on all of my centos 4 boxes. AFAICT, logrotate is not running. This is from a fairly minimal install, so I'm assuming this is a default process. --- [root at penguin ~]# ls -l /var/log/maill* -rw------- 1 root root 230603836 Sep 27 16:30 /var/log/maillog -rw------- 1 root

If you ever wondered about Samba and the Golden Penguin Bowl and that suit...
I got a message from the organizer, for the first time the video feed of the Golden Penguin Bowl is available.... So if you never saw me making a complete fool of myself live, now's your chance to see it second hand :-) :-). smbprint
While trying to configure my *nix box to print to windows, I discovered my samba build does not have the smbprint utility. I saw no option in the configure/make script to build with the smprint utility. Is there an option that will build this tool? Thanks! LPRng question
<It seems that the print command is trying to find the printer at location 'localhost'. Since this is a network printer it is not at localhost is it?> Yeah, the error messages made no sense to me either! Well, like I said earlier: < The IP address of this printer is 10.1.1.192. I call this printer nero, and have it listed in my /etc/hosts file> Here is a copy of part of my

Hardware advice please?
I am quite new to Linux and have moved (almost) from a windoze NT4 environment. My present configuration is running SuSE V 8.0 with KDE3.0.5 desktop on two machines, connecting with Samba to an NT4 PC, and an occasional laptop or other PC that connects locally to the network. After a deal of searching, researching, and seeking advice I have decided to use Shorewall as my firewall.

hardware issues? driver issues?
Got a bunch of servers from Penguin. Supermicro m/b's H8QG6. We put a 3tb drive in for additional workspace for the users, and some of them won't read, others will go for weeks, then spit out DRDY errors. lshw shows the controller as an ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 SATA. I did notice that it shows *-storage description: SATA controller product: SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 SATA

Dear community members, Im a graphic designer and for the last couple of months I have been working on a new logo for the Nouveau project. Windows 95
I am having a problem with some Windows 95 PC's . I had Samba 2.0.5 installed on a Sun system with Solaris 6, and a local network of PC's with W95 and W98, and everything was working fine. I then installed a new server with Solaris 8, and changed the IP addresses on the network, and the W98 PC was fine as was one of the W95 PC's, but 2 W95Pc's cannot see the Samba share, if I do
