My probelm currently is the fact that if I add this line to /etc/exports: /mnt/MountedSambaShare somebox(nohide) I get: somebox:/mnt/MountesSambaShare: Invalid argument This happens whether /etc/exports says "somebox(nohide)" or "somebox(ro)" or "somebox()". Linux permissions vs Samba permissions
Okay, admittedly I'm running an old version 2.0.5, but, why do I have to set the eXecute permission in Linux before Samba will let a Windows client see any files? Why would execute have anything to do with read and/or write? I would think I could set -rw-rw---- or -rw-rw-rw- and be just fine, but oh no, you get an empty list and cannot create new files until I change it to -rwxrwx--- or

Hello again! Ok, I've gotten wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g working great Now I try to run getent passwd and getent group I get my local users/groups but not the ones on the Windows 2k Server Domain Controller and it just hangs after listing the local ones. I also tried authenticating a user and it worked I'm assuming wbinfo -a DOMAIN+ingless@DOMAIN%"password" (The usernames here

Creating user home directories with domain login
Hello, I've got Samba set up for domain logins and use winbind as well. What I'm wondering is if it's possible for the home directory to be automatically created when the user logs in if it doesn't already exist? If not, anyone have a relatively easy way to do this, in addition to giving the proper owner and group? Thanks, Scott

Setting up CUPS for Samba on 390
I've scoured the newsgroups and asked MANY people, does anyone out there have any ideas ? I'm new to the CUPS arena and I'm trying to figure out what to do from the separate docs. I'm using SLES7 (2.4.7 kernel). The files I'm using are: 4368072 May 22 06:22 cups-1.1.19rc5-source.tar.gz 197341 May 22 06:22 cups-samba-1.1.19rc2.tar.gz 4961128 May 22 07:58

FreeBSD 4.5, Samba 2.2.4_1, W2K client "printer prope rties cannot be displayed"
I've experienced something like this, as well. Though I don't know if this will help, I would make sure that your NT username(s) are appropriately mapped to unix users. You may not be able to view the properties because the permissions/mapped user are mixed up. You can check this by doing a smbstatus - the user names listed as connected are the unix usernames that have been mapped to.

samba 2.2.6pre2 make fails
When I compile Samba, this is on SuSE 7.2, I keep getting a make failure, but it still completes to a prompt. Should I ignore or does anyone have a "fix"? When I configure, I use these options: ./configure --enable-cups --with-smbwrapper --with-automount --with-smbmount --with-pam --with-pam_smbpass --with-winbind --with-winbind-auth-challenge When I run make, this is the error,

Recovery from Domain/WINS Outage - Didn't work well
We're using Samba 2.2.5 and 2.2.7 in SECURITY=DOMAIN mode. This morning we lost contact with our PDC, and for about 2 hours, users were unable to logon. After chasing this down, we determined that we were also unable to contact the WINS server defined in smb.conf. Our backup WINS server was available, but it seems Samba only supports one WINS server in smb.conf, so this didn't help

construct a bundle, subdirs do not exist?
Hi, Sorry to bother, but I checked around and did not succed creating a bundle from six existing packages (which are checkable, installable, etc. individually). I carefully followed the procedure given in ch. 1.1.5 Package bundles. However, I am getting hoffmann at fluke:~/R/Sources >R CMD check cwhmisc * checking for working latex ... [LLVMdev] XFAIL ASAN on ARM
Hi Kostya, Alex, Some changes in the sanitizers made this test start passing: TestCases/Posix/start-deactivated.cc http://lab.llvm.org:8011/builders/clang-cmake-armv7-a15-full/builds/4277 It passes on both ARM and Thumb, both NEON and non-NEON. Should we mark is as PASS now? Or is that a fluke? cheers, --renato

Losing network connection
Can anyone give me any ideas on how to debug a problem we're having with our Samba system (running SUSE SLES7 with Samba 3.0.4). We occasionally receive a message concerning a dropped network connection in our messages file: Aug 12 14:46:23 ismlnx1 kernel: lcs problems detected eth0 temporarily unavailable. 99.9% uptime
Sorry, forgot to change the subject on my first posting. I was reading a comment this morning about something Microsoft had published to the effect that there were vendors guaranteeing 99.9% uptime for NT. The guy who wrote the reply did the math for what that means, and the results are very interesting. Quote below: OK, now what does a 99.9% uptime guarantee mean? Well, it means that at
