Strange Share Trouble
I am running SAMBA on Redhat Linux 7.x.
I have a share for our office as a file server. The regular Win9x client
can browse / edit / delete and use the server with no issues from the
Windows Explorer / Applications except for one.
We run AutoCAD (drafting) with an extension Cadpipe. Cadpipe has it's own
file browser style interface where you add files to a list to create a

Access denied
Hello,
Samba 1.9.16p11 on Sun OS 5.6
For a NT4 Server SP4, I can not access to the samba server. When I look
at the log.MachineName file, I see the error "password server not
avalaible".
I must say that it is working fine with an NT4 SP4 server on the same
domain with the same user account.
I have change the registry to authorize non-encrypted password.
......
Thanks.

aliases not working!!
Can someone tell me what has to happen to get
the aliases working in samba?
Below is an earlier posting.
Thanks!!
Does anyone have aliases working correctly?

Anything I'm missing for 2.6.31?
Hey everyone,
We're coming up on the next merge window, and I only have a
couple tiny fixes for ocfs2. I thought I'd list up what I know is
outstanding, and I was hoping to find out if I was missing anything. If
I am, I need to get it in linux-next and set for the merge window ASAP.

This is a trivial patch I put together to track errors seen by the
blockcheck code.

PopUp messages
Dear all,
as you already know, it is possible to send short winpopup messages to
Win boxes using the command smbclient -M host.
If a Win user wants to reply, it should be possible to use the Windows'
WinPopUp GUI to reply, but the message gets lost somewhere.
For example:
smbclient -M winbox
Added interface ip=192.1.1.125 bcast=192.1.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0

[URGENT] Need help getting rails app back up desperately
I''m desperate. A few hours ago I was checking my server because we are
running a survey for a new client and everything looked good for that
app but I noticed another Rails app was quite large (twice as normal)
so I decided it was time for a restart. Big mistake. Upon restart the
application gave me a 500 error. Checking the logs I found a stack
level too deep error that after hours I

preexec, logging, and my problem
okay so after trying a bit to understand how all of this works i think i
need a bit more support.
thanks to joel, my problem where users can log on multiple times looks like
it has a solution.
to prevent this, he outlined a process by which one can monitor the process
IDs of samba users, then user smbstatus grep for that user, find the
process id, and then do whatever i want with them.

Manual Printer Driver Installations
Hey,
I posted a few days ago about how the printer paper sizes are differ from
the admin account
when they are installed. People at my work are getting pissed at the moment
and all they want to do
is to be able to change the paper sizes themselves and not have it done at
the server
Is there a way to do it?
I fluked it at one stage and had it working like that, I think I deleted the
driver

Locked files that stay open after a PC crash
Hi,
How should you deal, as an administrator/root, with
locked files that stay open after a PC crash and the
user can't access them any more.
For example:
The PC crashes and the user restart. MS-Outlook
complains that it can't open its outlook.pst file,
that is on a samba share, with the proper read/write
access and the user can't get any mail.
As root you do a smbstatus -u and you

Oplocks - samba 2.2.4 & Windows 2000 server
In investigating some performance issues (elderly server with just 10Mbps
ethernet), I noticed that smbstatus reported hardly any open files with
oplocks. In particular files opened with Office 2000 & XP stay un-oplocked.
I have checked and testparm claims oplocks are enabled and manual says this
is so by default.
The clients are all Windows 2000 servers - so we have 1 samba connection with

Samba with a Win9x network and RoadRunner
Hi everyone...I'm at a dead stop setting up Samba, so let me jump right into
the problem:
First, the setup: I have a RH7.3 box and a W98 laptop. The RH box also has
a W2k Pro partition. We have them on a 4-port 10base-T hub along with our
RoadRunner cable modem.
Now on to the problem: As most of you are already aware, RR uses DHCP to
assign IP addresses to client machines at boot time.

pre-/postexec in printers-section
Hi,
after updating our printserver from Samba V2.0.6 to V2.2.7 I encountered the
following problem.
Samba does not execute the (root) pre- and postexec within the printers
section.
If you are using these command in another section everything works fine.
Does anybody know if these command are not supported in the printers section
anymore?
smb.conf:
[global]
...
load printers = yes
lpq cache
