Trouble pinging servers DNS name.
I can ping the virtual Linux servers NetBIOS name and access a share. Perhaps someone can examine the attached named.conf file for errors and/or omissions.
My virtual Linux server (172.17.60.6) has been configured as a WINS server, and a PDC. I am not, however, certain how to configure it as a DNS server beyond what is in the attached named.conf file.
Here are the results of pinging the

Smbclient Connection to Samba server failed
I played with the smb.config file long enough to get both the smbd and nmbd daemons to run. Then ran TESTPARM against the correct smb, conf file without issue. Finally I tried the following command:

Expected service, found `wins, dns, files'
Can anyone peruse my attached host.conf file and determine what missing statement this error is referring to? Here is the command that generated this error:

Thank you in advance for your time.

NMBD Not Starting
I moved an entire RH 6.2 server from one CPU to a new one using a tape
backup/restore. Everything from the old server is working on the new server,
but when SysV starts up smb, the nmbd daemon (2.0.6) exits with an error:
create_subnets: No local interfaces!
eth0 has already started according to the logs and console. Any ideas?
Thanks.

File shares seem to timeout?
Hi,
I have a samba server joined to a Win 2000 domain.
It all works fine except that for some reason if a Win2KPro client has a
file/folder open overnight (or for a long time), then they are disconnected.
I can't find a relevant timeout setting when browsing through swat.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Alistair.

samba will not work for me... :/
I've had this problem since FreeBSD 4.3. This problem continues with my
FreeBSD 4.4 machine.
I can't connect from my Win98se and Win2kPro machines to my FreeBSD 4.4 Samba
server.
I've tried it all... but still no luck.
I've run smbd and nmbd manually with the "-D" parameter. I can connect
internally from my FreeBSD 4.4 box using "./smbclient

Win2k needs password twice
Hi,
I've recently upgraded a few of the win98 machines here to win2kpro, and
now, after logging in, the password has to be entered again for the shares.
I've searched around but can't find a solution to this problem. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
This is on Samba 2.0.7 on FreeBSD, and here is smb.conf:

backup roaming profiles server
How do I use a backup server to mirror my Roaming Profiles? I currently
have a Samba server running as PDC, and it stores the profiles. I would
like to have another computer available as a BDC, which can mirror the
profiles in case the PDC dies or is somehow disconnected from the network.
There is a real possibility that my network might get chopped in half,
and I'd like both halves to be

of large files or working with large amounts of data is impossible. From

Samba/LDAP Authentication and SSL Conflicts
I'm having a problem with Samba/LDAP authentication for Windows boxen
from my Samba PDC. I've diagnosed as much as I can and fiddled with the
relevant settings I know of, but I'm not making any progress.
I'm running stock Red Hat 8.0 with LDAP (OpenLdap 2.0.25) authentication
(fully tested and working). I have Samba (ver. 2.2.5) set up as PDC,
which works flawlessly (all
