rsync ignores --force and will not delete non-empty directories from destination (HFS+ -> FAT32)
Hi. This is my first post to this list. I have searched the archives but cannot find anything that touches on this particular issue. My scenario: I am trying to rsync from an external HFS+ (USB2) to a FAT32 external NAS drive, using rsync version 2.6.9 protocol version 29 (as supplied with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11). The data being synced is MP3 music files and JPGs. The command I am issuing

OS 10.3.3 client File saving problems
Hello, I administrate a modest network of 12 Mac (os x 10.3.3) and PC clients (win xp) connecting to a Samba server running Redhat enterprise Linux 3 and Samba 3.0.2 We just recently switched to this configuration from a Win2000 file server running SMB and AFP that did not have any of the issues I list below. My OS X users are running into occasional yet persistent problems saving files to the

Os X and Win clients to SMB 3.0.10 server - how to hide ._ files from win clients only
Hello group, I am working on a test installation of Samba 3.0.10 on FreeBSD 5.3 as potential solution to some of our current file server problems. One of the main ones being good 'ole Win2000 Services for Macintosh - which we would like to dump completely. Here's the situation. We have a handful of Mac machines, all recently taken to 10.3.7 (10.3.8 upgrade is pending) which currently

rsync not copy all information for font file
Hi Ram, In OS X, some font types (not all) put the font payload in the resource fork. Netatalk provides AFP filesharing, imitating the resource forks by creating secondary files in ?.Appledouble? folders within each folder. Netatalk tracks the resource forks, and other metadata, by keeping a ?Desktop database? at the root of the shared volume ? look for .AppleDesktop, and .AppleDB. You can

Win2000/share browsing performance problem
I've got a strange performance problem with Windows 2000 and Samba 2.2.3a that doesn't seem related to the June/July performance threads. I have two shares, 'r' and 's': 'r' is 8.4GB in 27,000 files, mostly generic crap like drivers, zip files, etc. 's' is 12.7GB in 10,000 files, almost all Photoshop, Illustrator and Pagemaker files. When I browse these

xloadimage in centos 5.1
I have noticed that xloadimage rpm is not in centos 5.1 I use the command "xview -identity" to get the size of gifs, jpgs, and pngs. xview is part of the xloadimage package. The command "file filename" also reports sizes for gifs and pngs BUT not for jpgs. Is there an alternative command to use to report gif jpg and png sizes? I thought about just getting an older

Mac OS X HFS+ metadata patch, take 2
Hi. Several months ago, I posted my first pass at a patch to transfer Mac OS X HFS+ metadata (resource forks and Finder metadata) to non-HFS+ filesystems (Linux, Solaris, etc). I finally got a chance to update the patch to reflect suggestions offered on the list. Thanks for the ideas, this version should be a big improvement. The diff and a binary (and a fuller explanation) can be found at:

HFS+ resource forks: WIP patch included
As you all know, rsync doesn't have any special handling for Mac OS X HFS+ resource forks. Kevin Boyd made RsyncX and rsync_hfs, to address this gap, but they only work when the destination filesystem is also HFS+. I haven't been able to find any references to an rsync that is capable of syncing from HFS+ to UFS (etc). The only solutions I've seen involve lots of preprocessing

Aw: Re: Re: rsync not copy all information for font file
what is the source and destination filesystem? here is some report that rsync has some problem with HFS+ filesystems and "ressource forks": http://quesera.com/reynhout/misc/rsync+hfsmode/ but as you are using ubuntu and not osx i`m curious what`s the problem, so i think we need more information here. regards roland > Gesendet: Freitag, 12. Feature Request: OS X / hfs+ / resources fork
rsync is a very useful tool for me to backup from Max OS X to a linux server. However, would developers please add one feature: When rsync runs on an OS X machine and the source files are in hfs+ (or hfs) filesystem, copy the resources fork to a file with filename starts with a dot and append the original filename. That's the current behaviour of samba client on OS X interacting with

Rsyncing Linux to OS X
I'm trying to use rsync to backup some database files on a Linux box to an OS X machine, so I can write them to a tape drive connected to the OS X machine. I'm aware that there are some "issues" about rsync and certain file forks found on HFS+ filesystems, but I'm not sure that should be stopping me from accomplishing what I want to do. I'm using rsync 2.5.5 on both

wine1.3.28 broken msvcp90.dll
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and the wine1.3 ppa (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa). I upgraded this morning using the normal update manager, and I went to run Photoshop CS5 which has been working flawlessly for months, it broke. According to /var/log/apt/term.log I updated from wine1.3.26 to wine1.3.28. I get this error: Code: wine: Call from 0x7b83b332 to unimplemented function
