Browsing on remote subnets, domain logons
Hello, I have a few questions. I have network like this: (A)---------(MS)--------(SS)-------(B) | | inet (C) Ms and SS are linux servers with samba. others are workstations with WinMe. Can I make all subnets and all computers to see all computers on all subnets without using WINS? So A should see SS, B and C. Because between MS and SS is very long network

samba browsing through subnets with different nethoods
Hi everybody I installed 2 subnets, one with a samba PDC fully functional and the other with just one linux client (called CLIENTE) with samba running a basic configuration. Subnet 1 has a samba PDC called BAR (domain FOOBAR with ip 192.168.1.1) that is also the wins server for both subnets and the domain master browser for 192.168.1.0/24 bar:/var/log/samba # smbclient

Cleaning out the NetHood.
hi, I'm getting a build up of domains in the NetHood. Every time somone plugs into the network w/ a computer on a different domain (usually a laptop) it get's left behind and does not clear out. We do use a central WINS server, that all other samba PDCs access. Any way to flush it out? j. -- ...................... ..... Jason C. Leach .. Current PGP/GPG Key ID: 43AD2024

Browsing workgroups on remote subnets
Is this stretching the limits of what Samba was designed to do? I have set up a VPN with 2 LANs (I'll call them EastLAN and WestLAN) interconnected through the internet. On EastLAN there is a samba server configured to be the domain master browser as well as the WINS server. PCs connected to this LAN are Win9X and are all in the workgroup EAST. On the WestLAN there is a samba server

NetBIOS across subnets
Hi all, I would like two Samba servers to be able to talk to each other via NetBIOS. The problem is that they are on two different subnets. I have enabled broadcast ping on the routers, and the servers can each ping the other subnet with no trouble. The two relevant IPs are 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.2.3. There is a T1 between two Cisco routers, and IP routing is all set up. Currently

Connecting two LANs over a slow link
Hi, I'm having some trouble connecting the SMB networks on two LANs that are connected over a "slow" (DSL) link: Network B: 172.16.0.0/24 Domain B: office Network A: 172.16.1.0/24 Domain A: home gate.office and gate.home are the respective networks' NAT gateways connecting to the internet over ADSL lines. The private IP spaces are connected to each other via an ipsec tunnel

homes on different subnets with smb pdc bdc /ldap, automatic home mapping sporadic failures
Hi Samabatistas, I have a ldap smb pdc and a ldap smb bdc in a different subnetc. connected via a vpn Users work at the place of the pdc have their home and their profile there, Users working on the place of the bdc have their home and their profile on the bdc. I did this with editing their ldap attr. on the pdcs ldap master this works like charme, but sometimes the automatic home drive mapping

more inter-subnet browsing wierdness
We are seeing some strange inter-subnet browsing issues here, our setup is as follows: .129 subnet [ samba box ] | | [ router ] ^ _.1 subnet _/ \_ .9 subnet_ The .129 subnet contains only the samba server configured to the letter from the browsing.txt file. The .1 subnet conists of win98 and winME boxes all configured from DHCP to use the samba box for WINS lookups.

Browsing across subnets connected by a linux router without using WINS
Hi! We have the following scenario: Subnet 1 ======= Contains PDC for domain DOM1 all clients in this subnet belong to DOM1 Subnet 2 ======= contains PDC for domain DOM2 all clients in this subnet belong to DOM2 These two subnets are connected via a multihomed linux box set up as a router between these subnets. IP routing definately works ok. What we want to achive is, to have full NetBIOS

Trust Relationships using Samba
Like many, I administer multiple LANs connected together using NT trust relationships. This was implemented about 4 years ago. I now have the occasion to consider performing this same task again, but this time, I would like to implement it solely through samba - no Microsoft PDCs anywhere. I have read documentation on samba.org regarding NT-style trust relationships and am now wondering, can I

Doubt on browsing across subnets
Hi everyone, I'm getting roughed up trying a new setup on my server. I tried this with 1.9.18p10 and now with 2.0.3, first I want to see if I'm getting this correctly and then if there's a solution to what I think is happening. I have the following setup: One server with two NICs IP1=130.6.96.2, IP2=130.6.98.2, SM = 255.255.255.0 (BTW, these are internal IPs, not internet

Repost: Browsing across subnets (again)
I'm sorry if people are getting fed up with my question, but I didn't get a response from the first post, and I didn't even see the second post appear in the summary. Hi All, this is probably a common problem and FAQ but I can't the solution. I've got two subnets, 10.1.1.0/255.255.0.0 at Leeds and 10.2.0.0/255.255.0.0 at Doncaster. At Leeds, I've got samba running as

Browsing across subnets - network star configuration
Hi all, I am trying to find a setup for browsing across subnets, however the BROWSER.txt document doesn't cover this situation: I have a network in a star configuration with a Linux machine acting as a router in the middle. ---------------- | Linux Router | ----------------

browsing, subnets, across, workgroups
Why does browsing across subnets only work if all of the machines are in the same workgroup? We're really a unix and mac campus, but we're trying to support windows machines by using a samba server to let them print and let the students access a little chunk of disk space. I've got a samba server set up as the workgroup SERVERS, and I've told it to be a domain master, a

Removing stale host/workgroups in browse lists
I've got a moderate network with several subnets, a number of domains and workgroups. I have a central WINS server, each domain has its own PDC. My problem is transient users. We have occasional users who plug a laptop into the network. Once they leave, they hang around in Network Neighborhood forever. Then I have users who curiously click on their icon in NN and their machine just

browsing subnets over vpnd
Hey :) I have recently set up VPN links between 3 subnets. I can ping back and forth between all of the computers just fine, and samba works on all but one subnet. The problem is that I am unable to use the VPN to browse computers on the office network. I can browse them locally from the office, and I can browse other subnets from them (ie. at home, etc), but when I get on another subnet and try

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi, I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an 'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network Neighbourhood. I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway). On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8) as the browse

Two WINS servers on different subnets
Hi If I connect two LANs (on different subnets) and want to use windows filesharing, I need a WINS server right? Can I have one server on both subnets and make them "talk to each other" ? The problem is that the two networks are connected through a VPN tunnel and I don't want to place a WINS server on just one of them in case the VPN tunnel is lost. I want the subnets to work
