UTF-8 patch for Samba 2.0.7
See description in the attached patch.
-------------- next part --------------
This quick hack adds primitive support of UTF-8 as a server 'character
set' to Samba 2.0.7. All file, share and user names are stored on server
in UTF-8, and translated into client code page (not UCS2) on the fly.
Additionally, server string conversion is added. Tested with Chinese and
Russian Windows clients.

Samba LDAP - bug in ldapsync.pl
In the course of correcting directory references for Mandrake in
smbldap-tools I came acrossed the following:
samba-2.2.7a/examples/LDAP/ldapsync.pl
on line 72 we have:
> $ntpwd = `/usr/local/sbin/smbencrypt '$oldpass'`;
On Mandrake this would be:
> $ntpwd = `/usr/sbin/smbencrypt '$oldpass'`;
Except that I can't find anything by that name (i.e.

samba 3.0.4 on SLES8: password sync will not work...(decode_pw_buffer: incorrect password length)
Has anyone got unix password sync for samba3.0.x running successfully on
SLES8 server? Do I need the SLES service packs? Is there an
interaction with PAM that I need to be aware of?
I've compiled the full developer build of samba from 3.0.4-4 source.
Compile was successful. I'm running tdbsam as password backend. I've

How to verify the domain secret is good or bad?
I know there is the command "wbinfo -t". But when it says that "could not
check secret", how do I know it's the secret is bad, or something else wrong,
like winbind went crazy maybe?
Also, sometimes I saw problems like "wbinfo -t" just says "secret is bad",
when all the daemons were running. It sure was good at some point before.

Samba+CUPS+Drivers autodownload
Hi Matt,
the problem you referred to is discussed in detail
as bug #82 in Samba's bug tracking tool. It consists
of 2 bugs. One prevents the registration of drivers
and is due to a NULL-pointer passed from that part
of code in rpc_server/srv_spoolss_nt.c which calls
sys_adminlog function. It begins with the comment
/* BEGIN_ADMIN_LOG */
and ends with the comment
/* END_ADMIN_LOG */

Samba3 + LDAP - w2k says it couldn't change password (but it did)
Hello,
I have a following test environment:
1) Samba PDC + OpenLDAP Slave (192.168.1.2)
2) OpenLDAP Master (192.168.1.1).
Whatever is changed/added on the Master, it gets replicated to Slave.
Now, when a user is logged in, and tries to change the password - he/she must supply the old password, and twice new one (normal behaviour).
After pressing OK the user is said that the password

OS X Setup Woes
I have installed Samba from the OS X binaries at xamba on
SourceForge. I've checked the settings against those in the OS X
Unleashed chapter on Samba, and they appear right.
I've set up for user-level security. But I cannot for the life of me
add a new user to the Samba world. Every time I try, I get a Console
Crash log that looks like this:

SOLVED Can't joint domain per LDAP slave servers
Strange.
Both systems are Linux.
I compiled the LDAP slave Samba with CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686" and SuSE's GCC
3.3.1.
The fine working master got the same CFLAGS but SuSE's GCC 2.95.3.
Without CFLAGS the GCC 3.3.1 works fine too.
Didn't know that optimization (and GCC>3) is that dangerous....
Thanks anyway

Password problems with Samba-3.0.4
I'm apparently not the first person to have this problem, but I can't
find a fix for it anywhere on the web, or in Usenet.
Here's the scenario:
I upgraded from 2.2.8a to 3.0.4 during a recent hardware move.
All of my client machines are connecting properly, but my users can't
change passwords from their WinXP clients now. (Client error message
