SAMBA slower than MARSNWE...
I actually find Samba a very kewl server app so the subject isn't coming from
someone that has a preference for Netware over samba. My issue is actually
two-fold, one being the record locking problems in Samba and the other being
the slowness of dos apps in samba.
I'm not going to post any log messages here as I don't feel that for this post
they're really very relevant.

diagnosing broken pipe errors
I'm hoping to get some guidance diagnosing intermittent smbd
errors that have been cropping up in the last 2 months. They
are sporadic, difficult to reproduce, and don't reveal much of
a pattern so far except that the majority are generated by a
couple of clients, although several clients appear to be
affected. Typical symptom on the client is a hang when
attempting to look at the share

missing /etc/inetd.conf file in RH9
I have a RedHat 9.0 machine and just updated to samba-3.0.5pre1. I had
been running Samba to network two Windoze computers and using a network
printer. Two weeks ago my house was apparently hit by lightning which
created havoc with my computer/server. I got it going again but have
noticed several lingering problems. For one thing, I can't print from
it. I was going to check things

Duplicate mail for forwards (dovecot+postfix+postfixadmin)
Dovecot 1.2.11, using postfixAdmin 2.3 to manage, basically using the

- If I set a forward for an account to go to a remote email address, no dupes.
- If I set a forward for an account to go to an email address on the

Virtualisation of Netware?
Hi,
I am hoping someone can kick me up the learning curve (!) on Virtualization:
We have an old piece of data logging software that was written in Turbo
Pascal 6 using a file I/O module tuned to Netware and so it expects its data
files to be on a Netware server and will not access them locally or via an
MS/Samba share - essentially, it uses direct NCP calls for parts of its data
access.

Netware server emulation on Linux
One of our group companies has just 'gone live' on a new laboratory
management package. Although the software is M$-based (ie: expects a M$
server at the heart of it), it is running with its core database on a
CentOS3 server using Samba for client access - in fact, the developers are
amazed at the performance and say it beats a Win2K/2K3 server 'hands
down'!!!
Anyway, the old lab

Ldap Samba and problems compiling
Hi,
I got 2 problems :-
1. I was compiling samba-2.2.7-4.src.rpm on Redhat 8.0 system and with the option --with-pam_smbpass. It always fail when I am doing a rpmbuild -ba samba.specs. The error is similar to the person who posted on
http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba-technical/2002-September/039415.html but no one answered him.
I was also compiling with the following extra options:-

SAMBA digest 2091
I ran into this problem with an old DOS program on a Netware
server. When I moved the program to a smaller volume the
problem went away. I concluded that the old program had a
problem recognizing disk space on large volumes. Try setting the
max disk size option in smb.conf and see if that helps.

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC
issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates
users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access
the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup"
smbpasswd's.
I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

rsync 2.5.5 port to Novell NetWare

Netware copy fails
Affected: Various 2.x.x releases of samba on Solaris 2.6/8 and Netware 5.1 SP5.
Problem: Unable to copy files from a mapped Netware drive to a mapped samba share on a PC desktop (W2K).
Error: Several, but commonly "Cannot copy MYFILE. Access is denied. The source file may be in use" or "An unexpected network error has occurred".
Has anyone seen similar?

Win98 not transmitting passwd to samba server
Hello
I cannot get my Windows98 machines to connect to my Samba server(2.2.4)

The Samba server looks OK. On the server machine, "smbclient -L <server> -U
user1" prompts me for a passwd, then, after authentication, displays the
shares. When I attempt to map a share from my Win machines, the samba log

Mitel 5010
Does anyone know if this phone can or does work with Asterisk ? I have a
potential client who wants to throw away their current mitel ip system
(keeps crashing on a regular basis - not good for a phone-based company),
but are reluctant to purchase new handsets.
Thanks.

IAXy and DHCP
Hi,
I've got an IAXy, and provided it with connection
data - unfortunately didn't provide a fixed ip address,
but left with dhcp.
Everthing went fine, and I could work a while with it.
After a restart of IAXy, it didn't negotiate a new
IP address, nor used the old one. I even restarted
the DHCP server and cleared its cache. No success.
I went to another office with a different

Hi,
Funny you should ask. We looked at GNU lightning over a year ago when
planning out how to write the JIT. I personally think that LLVM is
