Generic smb.conf file
Hi, Does anybody know where I can get an untouched smb.conf file? When I used samba-swat, it rewrote smb.conf and deleted out the comments that was in the original file that came with samba. samba server+wat abt linux systems...
hello, The concept of a PDC is every machine logs into the domain controller to get access to n/w resources(file and print sharing). and in windows if i have a NT or 2000 machine as a domain controller, every other workstation or a client logs in to DC for n/w resources. And samba is a server software on linux server, which i assume(iam new to linux n/w'ing,so still fighting hard

NT Domain logons and clear text passwords
Hi, I'm very excited about the NT domain logon stuff but I have a question. Is/will it be possible to use the "normal" Unix password validation for user logons (we don't want to have two password files)? Smbpasswd is probably good for machines but we would like to continue using clear text password and Unix validation for users in the future. Regards,

PDC will create new roaming profiles but fails to load them on subsequent logons
Hello, I'm running Samba Version 3.4.7 on Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS. I'm using Samba as the Primary Domain Controller. Things that work: - Clients can logon - I can run logon scripts - Roaming profiles are created for new users on logon However, when I try to logon again with the same user, I invariably get this error message: "Your roaming profile is not available. You are logged on

help with logons/passwords
Hi, If I setup a share, and create a user with smbpasswd -a, I have to have enter the password extactly as the password supplied by the user's win2000 logon. If they match, then the user connects correctly and all is well. If, however, the win2000 password is different from samba's, then the user connects as 'nobody', and as 'nobody' you get problems with permissions

how to get logon.bat run with Administrator rights in domain logons?
On win XP Pro workstations it would be so convenient if the domain logon script which is stored on the samba pdc could be made to run with Administrative (or System) privileges. I know that I can interactively run another security context by choosing "run as user" but how could I achieve this non-interactively and domain wide whilst a "limited account" is loggin in? Thanks

webDAV (webclient) interferes with XP logons
Very long story short... 1. Samba server on machine running iptables or behind a firewall 2. Client XP domain logins taking 45 seconds or more. 3. The problem: webDAV (webclient) is running on the XP workstations and this mysteriously triggers access to port 80 on the file server, which in turn adds up to long delays. If you are running an HTTP server and it isn't blocked then

Laptops offline logons and roaming profiles
I experience pb with roaming profiles when laptops are used offline. When connected to the network everything works fine. Here under is the problem description. All the users of my company use laptops. They often work offline. Desktop components (My Documents files, Desktop files or folders, ...) are sometimes deleted by the user while working in offline mode that means, not connected to any

Windows PDC vs BDC placement; who takes care of the bulk of domain logons?
Hey all, might be a tad bit off topic to samba, but not entirely unlrelated. Anyhow, as I understand it, the task of a BDC is to process most if not all of the domain logons before a PDC does so is it not? It has been my understanding that the BDC generally accepts and processes domain logons before the PDC does on a network to keep the load down on the PDC until such time as the BDC cannot

slow logons - DNS problem?
I'm using roaming profiles, and to logon, it often takes one-two minutes or so on a 100 Mbit network (no traffic), with profiles as small as 2-5 MB. Clients are Windows XP SP2 machines, Samba versions 3.0.11 and 3.0.14a (deiifernt networks). Can it be a DNS problem? Right now the DNS is on a separate machine (small router really), and doesn't really know what Samba is. -- Tomek

How to handle domain logons if users using same accountname are logged on the same time?
Hi, I'm working at a small office. I'm running Samba 2.x for about a year without any problem, it's working absolutely GREAT and the community kicks ass :) We don't have too many machines so about 6 Users use about 3 PCs to do similar tasks. I just setup samba latest 23c-1 as a DC because we got some more machines, and everything's fine. Except when the same account is used

PDC, allow only domain logons to use services
Hi, I am running a nice Samba PDC that caters to a dozen or so Windows XP-SP2 clients. Point is, those clients should login to the domain, then access the shares. But they don't, some of the users are stubborn, refuse to login and just access the shares via direct IP. What I want is such a setup that only those users that are actually logged in to the PDC via domain logon can access the
