Controlling use of roaming profiles
We are using a system running Red Hat Linux 7.0 with Samba 2.2.7a as
our PDC.
For the most part, we want to use roaming profiles, so that users'
settings are backed up via the PDC, and are available if they need to
change or reinstall their Windows desktop machine. However, there are
a few Windows systems (running NT 4.0 or Windows 2000) for which
we would like to be able to disable roaming

I can't get multiple interfaces to work
I've looked through all the doc and searched the list archives, but I just
can't seem to get it to work. I have a Linux box with 5 ethernet
interfaces, 3 of which have winboxes I'd like to include in my little Samba
network. I'm able to get it far enough for each winbox to see the linbox,
but they can't see each other.
Here's my setup:

NetBios name resolution from WINDOWS
Hi,
I've been following a similar and current thread about name resolution
from LINUX side.
I have exactly the opposite problem (running ubuntu 7.10 on a network
with a mixture ubuntu 6.06, WinXP and WinVista boxes)
The winboxes cannot see or mount this 7.10 box
I can mount WinPC shares on this 7.10 box.
I was wondering about firewalls, but I can ping this 7.10 from the
WinBox by IP address

Can't get JRE to install so that FireFox sees it
Hot on the heels of the success of getting sound to work with FireFox, I
am on to getting Java applets to run.
When I go to a page with a Java applet, I get the little Rubik's cube-
like icon that says I can click to download. So I do, but FireFox says
it can't find it, so I have to install manually.
I click on Manual install and I'm taken to a page that allows me to
download the RPM

Alert icon for yum
Hi all. I have a simple question: CentOS relies mostly on "yum" to
keep systems up to date, although I understand that like on RHEL,
"up2date" is also available. On my system I've run both KDE and GNOME
as Graphical Desktops under X (though I presently run GNOME), and I've
noticed that there is an applet called "CentOS Network Alert Icon" (from

After installation of the new rhn-applet package, please stop and

nm-applet, wirless, and CentOS 6
I have a strange problem and I know I am doing things way outside of the box.
First of all I don't like Gnome or really any of the mess-windows flavored
desktop systems and no, I don't like the MacOSX flavored desktop systems (like
Ubuntu's Unity) either. The 'desktop' system (if you could have called it
that) that I learned on was DEC's 'DecWindows' system on

gigantic memory leak in Clock Applet...
I've discovered recently that something on my Centos 5.8 box (up to date)
is hogging a ton of RAM.
so a little while ago I sat and watched top for a while. it showed
(sorry, I didn't take screen shots or write this down, so the numbers
are a bit rough) that out of 8 gigs of swap, around 2 1/2 was in use,
and all the RAM (except for the little the kernel keeps for itself)
was in use

How to call a java applet in rails application?
HI,
I have a applet file named "Scanner.class" which will scan and upload
image to the web server from Scanners.
I have couple of doubts in accessing that applet file.
1. How to call this applet from rhtml file, and where should i place
this file.
2. I also use some external jar files which i imported in my applet
file, where should i place these jars?
Thanks,
Ratnavel

wine 1.1.26, IE 7 and java 1.16.015
I managed to install IE7 using wine 1.1.26.
Also installed adobe flash player.
All these seeems to be working.
Shockwave seems to be not working, but that's no important for me.
However my greatest motivation for installing IE7 is to be able to run/view java applet. Test using java installation web site seems to say that the jre runtime was installed. However when visiting some demo

Clock applet crashes
First things first: Kernel 2.6.9-34.EL, CentOS 4.2, Clock Applet "Clock
2.8.1", calendar client is Evolution 2.0.2.
The problem: when clicking on the clock applet to open the calendar
page all is well. However, when clicking again to close the calendar
page, the applet crashes; "The Application "clock-applet" has quit
unexpectedly."
Has anyone experienced this
