migrate old samba2.2.8 - smbpasswd to new samba3.0 - ldap - based
I'm just migrating a medium sambainstallation from old samba2.2.8 to new samba
3.0. The server is acting as PDC and there is no BDC.
The new samba is based on LDAP and is already successfully tested. Now I need to
transfer the whole old smbpasswd to the new ldap-style to convert users and
machines with minimal effort. Especially I dont want to break the relations
between the machines and

status of undelete
Months ago there was a thread here about the implementation of a
simple undelete-function (i.e: dont delete files, but move them to a
folder).
Is this this still a relevant idea or has this feature low priority ?
thanx,
peter
ps: anyone knows about a 3rd-party software (propably on nt-side) that
implements such a feature ?

two PDC's on same machine in same subnet
By now we had running samba as PDC and fileserver for about 20
NT4-clients with roaming profiles.
Now we start migrating NT4-clients to XP-clients and as I found out
roaming userprofiles between XP and NT4 is not possible (NT4->XP
works, but not vice versa).
So I just thought about cloning all the profiles (docs and mails are
not in the profiles so only bookmarks, adressbook and

migrate machine-passwords from smbpasswd to ldap?
I'm just migrating a whole samba-installations ffrom old 2.2 to 3.0 with LDAP.
I was successfully able to migrate all useraccounts with smbldap-useradd but now
I'm stuck with the machine-accounts. All machines are part of the domain and
they should be able to logon the new server without noticing any difference.
I can add them with smbldap-useradd -w but the resulting ldap-entry does

samba and/or DAV
while looking for a solution for webbased access to our samba-servers
I found a recommendation towards using DAV instead.
I just took a first glance at DAV (www.webdav.org) and find it very
interesting.
Are there any documentes comparing these two strategies in intranet
and internet (speed, reliability ...)
I would also be greatly interested if anyone here uses DAV to allow
roaming users to

Invalid key given to dptr_close / NT error 3013
Hi everybody,
although I'm not a member of this list, I'd like to address the
following problem here. Maybe someone is familiar with
it or knows how to solve it. He or she would save my sanity.
We have a samba 2.05a server on a solaris 2.6 box. It works as file
and program server. Once or twice a day some of our clients
receive a redirector timeout, error code 3013. The error message

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a
I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I
faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even
dont know if it can be a samba-problem.
When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice
versa I get bad performance:
1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second
But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

AW: Re: samba-3.0.10-1.4E (RHEL4); Invalid key XXX given to dptr_close
Fabian,
Fast explains.
On the NT server work BrightStore with version r9, more highly does not go
because of NT.
On the REHL4 side works (worked) BrightStore Linux Client r11.5. Smaller
version does not work goes because of RHEL4.
BrightStore servers r9 and Linux Client r11.5 are not compatible
unfortunately.
I must now decide everything with the version Share to work to get.
Or the operating

Invalid key xxx given to dptr_close?
I am running Samba 2.2.6 on FreeBSD 4.5 built from it's ports tree. When

information about XP <-> samba ?
I'm thinking about upgrading our NT4-clients to XP in the near future
and I want to know how well XP is supported by SAMBA in the recent
samba-versions.
I found many single statements in usenet, but I wonder if there is a
kind of XP-FAQ out there. (The one at samba-page is very outdated)
Especially I need to know how well XP integrates in a existing
NT4-domain (samba as PDC).
 Then I need

Invalid key 0 given to dptr_close on Samba 4.1 Domain Controller/File Server
Hello,
I am currently working on a solution to replace Apple OpenDirectory on some aging Xserve hardware. I currently have CentOS Samba4 AD DC?s replicating for redundancy using sernet-samba repositories. The third one has File/Print roles defind and it works perfectly EXCEPT on OSX 10.6. IT works great on any Windows workstation and OSX 10.7,10.8, 10.9 GNOME/Nautilus and even CIFS CLI mounting

Oplocks, Oplock_break and request Oplock_break
Hello there.
I'm having a few problems using samba 2.2.3a and sharing a paradox database. On the whole
everything works fine but (there's always a but), every now and again. a machine's shares will
close causing the database to crash (sometimes only that machine) - the other networked
machine recover after a few error messages.
I guess the easy answer would be to disable oplocks

Ongoing Samba Errors
Greetings
We just updated two RH9 servers to 3.0.14a-1 and are still seeing a lot
of errors in the logs.
They're not stopping us working but I would _really_ like to understand
what is causing them.
On the first server, in the logwatch, we get a whole swag of:
samba:
   Unknown Entries:
session opened for user janicer by (uid=0): 6 Time(s)

Problem with the text areas
Hello everybody,
I have a problem with Wine: I can't write in the text areas ( the keyboard seems to be out of order, nothing happens ). That happens in "Notepad" for instance, but also in the text areas that allows you to write the keynumber which activates a next software...so I can't install new programs...
Can you help me ?
PS: I also tried to copy/paste the keynumber but

user cannot logon to domain although log says "auth succeeded"
I have a very strange problem and I'm doomed. In a samba-domain with XP-clients certain users cannot logon to some computers.
The user tries to logon but *immediately* gets the message "you cant get logged on. please check username and domain and retype your password" (translated from german) on the XP-machine.
In the samba-logs (Loglevel=2) it says:
