dataframe transposition
Dear R-helpers,
I wonder if I could impose upon you for forther assistance, this
time with dataframes: hopefully this will be of general interest,
as I personally have found them hard to get to grips with.
I was trying to transpose rows and cols and move col1 to the names.
Then all sorts of things go wrong. Although the end result looks
the same, page() shows the structure to be quite

Merge records in the same dataframe
Hi:
Suppose that I have a data frame as below
x1 x2 x3 ... x10 wk1 wk2 ... Wk208 (these are the column names)
For each record, x1, x2, x3 ... x10 are attributes. and wk1, wk2, ..., wk208 are the sales recoreded for this attribute combination. Suppose that now, that I want to do the following
1. Merge the data frame so that I have a new data frame grouped by values of x2 and x3 (for example).

Samba / Win2K Disconnects - HELP!
Samba and Win2k just don't seem to want to work together. I get disconnects
after about 13MB of data transfer, and the Win2k box just loses the share as
if it were disconnected. Re-establishing the share works, but data transfer
of large files or working with large amounts of data is impossible. From
the amount of traffic on this newsgroup regarding WinXP and Win2K problems
with Samba, I

Samba and windows 2K Active Directory
Hi;
I have a client who wishes to implement SAMABA in a windows 2k AD
environment.
The client has not moved to wk2 as yet. Can Samba be use for w2k mixed
mode authentication?

Not able to see public shares on W2k from Linux
Hi all,
I work with linux and SUSE 8.1 in a W2K PDC environment. I successfully
configured Samba to be able to connect from the Wk2 computers to
linux and vice versa with one exception:
I'm not able to see the public shares of the window computers from linux
(NetShareEnum failed, NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)
unless I provide a username and password. From Windows to Windows it's no

Windows 2000 Terminal Server Connections
We have "upgraded" from NT Terminal Server to Wk2.
In Windows NT we set the registry MulitpleUsersOnConnection = false.
What is thier in equivilance for Windows 2000? Our Samba is running out of
free connections per Terminal Server. Currently that number is 128.
We have 5 terminal servers and each server spawns a single smbd process with
128 connections.
Do I have to increase the

using abline and a fitted 2nd degree formula
Hello all,
R2.1.1, Wk2
I am doing some two-step plotting, first using plot() to illustrate the
datapoints and then using abline() to place a trend line from a fitted
model into the plot.
Everything works well as long as the formula of the fitted model i of the
type:
m1 <- lm(Dependent ~ Independent)
then abline(m1) puts the proper straight line into the plot.
But if I use:
m2 <-

Big Migration
Next month I will move about 3000 clients (w2k) to a PDC samba, after that I will have more 1200 clients, but this time will be Linux, my question is:
1- Is there domain logon, like we have for Windows users ?
2- is smb the protocol recommended to FileShare to Linux clients or NFS is better (is there another one) ?

Backup
Hello All,
I am setting up a samba backup UNIX box. It will periodically login onto
a windoze box(with smbclient), pickup the files, and save them.
The problem is that I couldn't make any error correction in case of
power blackout or anything similar. That is, while backing up, if I
shutdown the WIN machine, one I'm backing up, smbclient goes crazy, giving
broken pipe error.

read_data: read failure for 4
Thse kinds of error messages show up all the time in my logs...is this
bad? I've had no complaints about lost data or anything.
I'm running samba 2.2.4 on FreeBSD 4.6 (previously 4.5), on an IDE RAID.
I upgraded our file server from an older linux box about 4 weeks ago, and
have been getting this error in the smbd logs ever since (ie, the entire
times it's been running samba).

Samba problems with HP-UX
Hello, I'm Jeff P. Nuebel with Rockwell - Collins in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa. We run a large mixed network of Solaris, HP-UX, linux, NT, w2k, and
XP.
After testing/deploying 2.2.2 to 400+ workstations from 2.0.6 to 2.2.x, in
order for W2K and XP to see there home accounts living on departmental UNIX
production workstation, we have ran into problems on the HP-UX side of the
fence with Windows 2k

Automatic & Permanent Disconnect of WinXP Clients
Hello,
I'd like to enable my Samba server, either by the correct choice of standard configuration parameters or by custom script, to permanently log off and disconnect WinXP clients that have been "inactive" for a specified period of time.

tftp-hpa fails after lost data packet
Hello,
I am using the tftp-hpa 0.48 as delivered in Linux Fedora Core 9 as a
client to send a file to another server on an unreliable network.
The transaction is sometimes timing out.
I have monitored the the TFTP packets to see what is missing.
It seems a DATA packet is being lost. The server is repeating the ACKs
for the previous packet every three seconds. I think these repeated ACKs

Samba -> WinXP: slow transfers, partial solution
Hello All,
I'm running Samba 3.0.24 as PDC and file server on Gentoo Linux,
AMD64, 2.6.19 kernel, 100MBit/s network, and experience quite slow
file transfers from Samba to WinXP SP2 clients: the speed is varying,
but is about 1-2Mb/s at best.
I spent quite some time investigating the issue, here are the
intermediate results:
1) This happens only when transferring _from_ _Samba_ to

SCP v. SFTP
I was comparing some traces from SCP and SFTP when transferring the same
file 200MB file between the same host pairs. Even when I put SFTP in
batch mode I noticed that I saw 403208 bytes from the receiver in
comparison to 3368 bytes with SCP. I've attached the relevant output
from tcptrace below (the b->a column is the return side of the trace).
Mostly I'm just curious as to what

Upsmon and Winnut disconnect regularly

using Winnut 2.0.0b. The Linux PC is connected to the UPS via a
serial cable and acts as the server.
The problem is that both upsmon and winnut disconnect regularly but

P2P shaping working
Hello, it''s me again, finally p2p traffic is getting shaped, but now I still
have one problem: download seems to be affected when shaping the traffic, ack
packets are in the interactive queue too, as someone adviced me, what fixed
the problem was to change the rates, to match (the sum of all subclasses) the
root class rate, and to give the p2p class a very low rate (1k actually) and
