Win2k needs password twice
Hi,
I've recently upgraded a few of the win98 machines here to win2kpro, and
now, after logging in, the password has to be entered again for the shares.
I've searched around but can't find a solution to this problem. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
This is on Samba 2.0.7 on FreeBSD, and here is smb.conf:

security = user

File shares seem to timeout?
Hi,
I have a samba server joined to a Win 2000 domain.
It all works fine except that for some reason if a Win2KPro client has a
file/folder open overnight (or for a long time), then they are disconnected.
I can't find a relevant timeout setting when browsing through swat.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Alistair.

Samba and Win2k
All,
Just received our first win2k/sp1 machine here. We currently have two
solaris 2.6 samba installations running. One is on our print server and
is version 1.19.something. The other is on our file server and is
version 2.0.0.
The win2k machine seems quite happy to print from the 1.19 version and
there seem to be problems there.
However, when I try to connect to the file server machine I get

samba will not work for me... :/
I've had this problem since FreeBSD 4.3. This problem continues with my
FreeBSD 4.4 machine.
I can't connect from my Win98se and Win2kPro machines to my FreeBSD 4.4 Samba
server.
I've tried it all... but still no luck.
I've run smbd and nmbd manually with the "-D" parameter. I can connect
internally from my FreeBSD 4.4 box using "./smbclient

Win2k disconnects mapped samba shares
Hello,
I stepped through the archives of this list, but could not find a
thread dealing with exactly this problem we are experiencing here.
Server HP-UX 10.20 Samba 2.0.6
security = domain
deadtime = 500 ... that should be enough
The win2k clients map a drive and everything is working fine.
after a period of inactivity (about half an hour) win2k somehow disconnects
the mapped drive

Big Migration
Next month I will move about 3000 clients (w2k) to a PDC samba, after that I will have more 1200 clients, but this time will be Linux, my question is:
1- Is there domain logon, like we have for Windows users ?
2- is smb the protocol recommended to FileShare to Linux clients or NFS is better (is there another one) ?

Backup
Hello All,
I am setting up a samba backup UNIX box. It will periodically login onto
a windoze box(with smbclient), pickup the files, and save them.
The problem is that I couldn't make any error correction in case of
power blackout or anything similar. That is, while backing up, if I
shutdown the WIN machine, one I'm backing up, smbclient goes crazy, giving
broken pipe error.

Printer: Access denied, unable to connect
I have a Deskjet 690C connected to my machine running RH7.1 + linux 2.4.13
+ samba 2.2.2 installed from RPM.
I have setup the printer with RH's printconf-gui as a local printer. In
local use it works fine.
I have the following in my /etc/samba/smb.conf:

tftp-hpa fails after lost data packet
Hello,
I am using the tftp-hpa 0.48 as delivered in Linux Fedora Core 9 as a
client to send a file to another server on an unreliable network.
The transaction is sometimes timing out.
I have monitored the the TFTP packets to see what is missing.
It seems a DATA packet is being lost. The server is repeating the ACKs
for the previous packet every three seconds. I think these repeated ACKs

SCP v. SFTP
I was comparing some traces from SCP and SFTP when transferring the same
file 200MB file between the same host pairs. Even when I put SFTP in
batch mode I noticed that I saw 403208 bytes from the receiver in
comparison to 3368 bytes with SCP. I've attached the relevant output
from tcptrace below (the b->a column is the return side of the trace).
Mostly I'm just curious as to what

Dovecot FINs after sending "NO Not showing other users' quota"
When I do imap getquota on a shared folder I see the NO response. That's
OK but then often dovecot disconnects (sends FIN) to the client right
after this. The client acks the disconnect and creates a new connection
and continues on.
Should dovecot disconnect after this type of imap "NO" response?

Samba -> WinXP: slow transfers, partial solution
Hello All,
I'm running Samba 3.0.24 as PDC and file server on Gentoo Linux,
AMD64, 2.6.19 kernel, 100MBit/s network, and experience quite slow
file transfers from Samba to WinXP SP2 clients: the speed is varying,
but is about 1-2Mb/s at best.
I spent quite some time investigating the issue, here are the
intermediate results:
1) This happens only when transferring _from_ _Samba_ to

Lost packets and strange "behaviour" of my TC rules
Hi all.
I''m going on my 3rd week trying to get a simple traffic shapping to work the right way :( !!
My goal it to shape the traffic coming from one machine (pc1) to another machine (pc2) throught the "eth0" interface. My test configuration is as follows:
PC1

Mask: 255.255.255.0
OS: Red Hat Linux Kernel 2.4.20-8

Disconnected...:( It MUST be a kernel problem OR a Samba problem.
Here's what you asked for - along with some tcpdump data that shows
what I'm thinking the problem is...If anyone knows what this is - I'd LOVE to
hear it - I've seen lots of posts about this type of error from
others, and none of those folks have posted their problem being fixed
(they probably gave up on it like I did for awhile...)
