DNS replication and BDCs
Hi,
For normal readers you kn ow already my setup, but for those new here, I
have a Samba4 PDC and two BDCs one a samba4 and the other a W2k8 R2 machine.
Yesterday we had problems with our upstream service provider and my PDC
(Backend BIND 9 DLZ) went down for some hours, as you might guess my
whole AD was down due to the fact that the main DNS was down.
I would like youi to point me or tell

How to verify the domain secret is good or bad?
I know there is the command "wbinfo -t". But when it says that "could not
check secret", how do I know it's the secret is bad, or something else wrong,
like winbind went crazy maybe?
Also, sometimes I saw problems like "wbinfo -t" just says "secret is bad",
when all the daemons were running. It sure was good at some point before.
So my

Net RPC Vampire not sucking all groups
I've tried numerous times but cannot get Vampire to bring across all groups
or add users to all groups that they belong to. Sometimes I get everygroup
except 1, other times not so lucky. Vampire log is below with an example of
what is going wrong.

NTFS file property - "primary group ID" instead of DACL
When I change file property - security from Windows, I can see both from
packet sniffer and Samba code, that there are 4 types of "security
information":
Owner ID Reference
Primary Group ID Reference
Discretionary ACL Reference
System ACL Reference
So if I want to change the primary group name on a file, by right click on
the file->property->security->advanced->select

Why ADS if I can join the ADS domain as an NT 4 server?
Hello, all,
I can not easily find an answer to this question: why do we need samba 3.0 to
join an ADS, if samba 2.x can join the ADS domain just as well, even though
the PDC is in native mode? What's the benefit for samba 3.0 to be a member
of ADS? What restrictions I have if joining samba 2.x to the domain as an
NT4 server?
I bet people on this list should know better than me. Can

Joining samba to AD domain with a non-admin user
I need help to resolve this issue.
I saw that Andrew put a patch by Antti to enable users without full admin
access to join samba into an AD domain. I am playing with it and always get
"Insufficient access". Using the same user, I can join a Windows box into
the domain just fine. The user is a member of "domain users", but not
"domain admins". I can use a

Does 3.0 work with w2k sp3 and/or win 2003? Anybody had success?
I can't make it work although both sign&seal and restrictanonymous are set to
0.
My setup is: w2k sp2 as PDC, w2k sp3 as client, samba 3.0a21 joined into the
PDC domain as an ADS member. The scenario is, from the w2k sp3 client,
connect to a share hosted by samba, create a file, then use
property->security->add tab to add an ACE, then the browsing user/group
windows appears

Does anyone have winbind working on Freebsd?
I have been trying to setup a Samba 2.2.6 server on FreeBSD 4.7. I want to
use my NT4 domain for authentication of users. It looks like everything is
setup properly as far as winbind is concerned, see below for results using
wbinfo. I am still prompted for a password when trying to connect to the
samba share. I cannot list the shares using "smbclient -L servername
-Udomain+username"

Samba 3.0 - a bunch of really high level questions
Hello everyone... I am a long time samba user (3 or 4 years), though I
never ventured into the alpha stages until recently (alpha 21, I'll move
to 22 in the near future once I get a better idea of what's going on). I
am very interested in Samba being part of a ADS domain, but I have been
a little frustrated due to the lack of documentation. Specifically, I've
read the HOWTO's from

Installing package rpvm under Windows
Hello,
I'm trying to install the rpvm package under Windows, but I am having
problems. I have pvm3.4 installed properly.
I've defined the system variables
PVM_ROOT = C:\PROGRA~1\pvm3.4\
PVM_ARCH = win32
When I try to install, I get this:
C:\R\Packages>Rcmd INSTALL rpvm_1.0.1.tar.gz

Active Directory Integration Problems
Hello everyone,
I have setup Samba 3.0.28a on an Ubuntu 8.04 server. The setup that I
am working with is an exact copy (as far as I can tell) if an identical
installation that I did on a test box. Kerberos is setup and working
properly. I can use kinit to issue tickets. The box has been
successfully joined to the Active Directory domain. I can enumerate AD
users and groups. I can log

how to use printk() in xen?
hi, all:
i want to add a function in xen. in the function i need to call the "printk" to display the values of some variables.
i found the definition of printk() in file "xen-3.1.0-src\xen\include\xen\lib.h ":
extern void printk(const char *format, ...)
__attribute__ ((format (printf, 1, 2)));
who can tell me the location of printk()?
thanks in advance.

[LLVMdev] powerpc-darwin8 build/test status page
Hi,
For anyone who might be interested, I've thrown together a little
page to track my builds of llvm and clang, both release 3.0 and
svn-trunk, on powerpc-darwin8.
http://www.csl.cornell.edu/~fang/sw/llvm/
I'll update the list of logs each time I svn-update and build. It's
nowhere as nice as a real buildbot page, but it's better than nothing.
3.0 still has over 20 test
