Hello
I'm using an OOTB RH80 with recent updates, and samba 227, french language
when I access a samba share from a w98 box eveything works fine but with
accented chars
I just can't get the right filename under linux.
whatever filename I use on w98, with accented chars, it works from the w98
side (I get write and read files with their right filenames)

put files, any user able to read and write other users' files (a public and

Hi
I have a linux mdk 8.0 w/ custom 2.4.19-16 kernel, acls, quotas etc
I have a samba 2.2.7 serving several shares on LVs
everything's fine but with one share :
whenever a windows client accesses this share his file manager is locked
out for exactly one minute. this happens when the client requests the
directory listing (or when an automatic refresh takes place)
i can't see any reason

user or group names with blanks
Hi
I'm a happy user of samba since years
I just d/l 2.2.6, configured it (w/ winbind), compiled and installed it
It's working
thought, i need to control access to some resources relatively to user's
appartenance to some nt groups, and i intended to do this with "read
list"/"write list" or "valid users".
my problem is that some group names contain blanks

oplock not granted
Hello
I just moved a win nt file server to linux/samba
I've performance problem with the new server thought it's a more powerful
machine (and os ;-) ): programs loaded from shares take (much) longer to start
A network trace shows up that the throughput needed to achieve the program
run (double clic to start then exit) from the linux server is more than 3
times the one needed to run from

SAMBA + ACLs + QUOTAs + WINBIND = headache
Hello
I'm trying to set up a samba server on linux that will have ACL capability
and QUOTA control.
I'm working on a customized 2.4.18 kernel patched for EAs and ACLs, and quotas
I've also customized a 2.2.3a samba with acls, winbind, quotas...
it's working fine from a pure unix point of vue, acl allow fine grained
access control, quotas limit use of space, and so on
with samba

manage nt accounts from linux/samba
hello
I know smbpasswd allows a user to change its password on an NT PDC, but is
there a way to manage domain accounts from linux/samba ? I have 1000's of
accounts to create (all based on a very few different models) and the
script has to run on a samba/linux server

big file server
Hi
I plan to set up a big file server, something like motherboard with 4 ide
ports and an additional 4 ide daughter card, a PIV proc and 512 or 1024 MB
ram, a 100 or 1000 MB NIC, with 6 or 7 200 GB ide HDDs in a sigle box. I
don't need lightning performance, just disk space. Of course this would be
served by some linux os and samba
questions (relative to samba configuration and behaviour) :

WinNT4 PDC.
"docusers" is the UNIX home directory for document users. their individual
home dir is created under their user id.

Trouble pinging servers DNS name.
I can ping the virtual Linux servers NetBIOS name and access a share. Perhaps someone can examine the attached named.conf file for errors and/or omissions.
My virtual Linux server (172.17.60.6) has been configured as a WINS server, and a PDC. I am not, however, certain how to configure it as a DNS server beyond what is in the attached named.conf file.
Here are the results of pinging the

What to do for ACL support?
Hi!
I'm trying to setup samba 2.2.4 on MandrakeLinux 8.2. The server should
act as a file storage for about 25 Windows 2000 clients.
Setting up a "basic" server which just serves the files is easy.
However, I'd also like to support NT ACLs on the Samba server. Well,
what do I have to do, to get it to work?
I'm using the Mandrake RPM for 2.2.4, which has ACL support

plotmath "overstrikes" in output on a Linux system
I've been testing plotmath. But I'm getting some funny output one one
computer. The problem is that characters are 'jumbled' and overstrike
when symbols are introduced.
Sample code:
mu <- 440.0
sigma <- 12.5
myx <- seq( mu - 4*sigma, mu+ 4*sigma, length.out=500)
myDensity <- dnorm(myx,mean=mu,sd=sigma)

PDC BDC should I or shouldn't I?
Hello everyone I hope this is the right place to post this question. I
have all but eliminated all Microsoft servers in my current work
environment, expect two boxes, which are our PDC and BDC, they also are
the DNS, Dial in With Rocket Port Card, DHCP, Winslookup servers. I
would like to remove these NT boxes and replace them with a nice shiny
new Linux box running Samba. Reading some of

LLJVM make error
That source file was removed from LLVM in r232397 on March 16, 2015.
It looks like lljvm hasn't been updated in a long time. LLVM's C++ APIs are not stable, so there is no expectation that a project built against LLVM's C++ API in 2015 would build or reasonably function against LLVM trunk.
The project probably works against LLVM 3.6.2 which was (I believe) the last LLVM release to

Mounted shares hangs when accessing
I am on Fedora Core 2. I have tried using smbmount
and auto.fs to mount both samba and windows shares.
They all mount successfully.
However, in a terminal window or in Nautilus when I am
trying to access the shares (even an ls command in
terminal window) will completly hang the share point.
This process then becomes an un-killable process.
Other systems can connect to the share point and use
