Samba, Winbind and AD. Nearly there but not quite
Hi, Just compiled latest version of samba and trying to get Samba to work with AD. I am at the point where I wbinfo -t, wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g and wbinfo -ausername%password work, but I cannot get getent passwd and getent group to gather any AD info. I have noticed the following errors in /var/log/samba/smbd.log [2006/03/09 16:37:16, 1] nsswitch/winbindd_ads.c:enum_dom_groups(282) No rid for

winbindd panic daemon dies
Hi All, can anyone make any sense of the error below, please advise if I need to log this as a bug but I'm not sure how to further diagnose what is happening. This is from my winbindd log file, thanks Andy. [2003/11/07 17:47:59, 1] nsswitch/winbindd.c:main(832) winbindd version 3.0.0 started. Copyright The Samba Team 2000-2003 [2003/11/07 17:48:00, 1]

winbindd and /tmp/.winbind/pipe
I've seen some mention of winbindd getting into a state where it cannot connect to the pipe in /tmp/.winbind and, if the directory is removed, will not create /tmp/.winbind/pipe. I've also started seeing this behavior. I've looked at the code and I cannot figure out why this happens. Does anyone out there know why this is happening? How to work around it? If it is on the TODO list of

winbindd exceeding 200 client connections
OS: RHE 3, kernal 2.4.21-32.0.1EL Samba version: samba-3.0.20 Removed RHE version of samba and compiled/installed samba-3.0.20. After running about 30-60 minutes, I get the following syslog msg: "winbindd: Exceeding 200 client connections, no idle connection found" Eventually this grinds the whole system to a halt, and remote & console logins become impossible while samba is

Solaris 8 and winbindd/wbinfo
Hi All, I cannot get my Samba server 2.2.8 working with winbind correctly on Solaris 8. I intend to use this to transparently authenticate squid 2.5stable2. I compiled samba using gcc 2.95.3. configure options were ./configure --with-winbind-auth-challenge --with-winbind --with-pam root# ./wbinfo -t Secret is good root# ./wbinfo -u 0xc0000022 The same thing with wbinfo -g. getent group

I am wondering if winbind works with win 2003. I can get winbind working just fine with 2k servers, but when I run wbinfo -t, all I get is "can not check secret". it joined the domain fine, but can not get it any info using wbinfo. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Does 3.0 work with w2k sp3 and/or win 2003? Anybody had success?
I can't make it work although both sign&seal and restrictanonymous are set to 0. My setup is: w2k sp2 as PDC, w2k sp3 as client, samba 3.0a21 joined into the PDC domain as an ADS member. The scenario is, from the w2k sp3 client, connect to a share hosted by samba, create a file, then use property->security->add tab to add an ACE, then the browsing user/group windows appears

pam_winbind - losing domain membership
Hello, I have the following setup: SuSE 9.1 with samba and winbind installed. On the other side is a nt4 domain. I can join the domain with "net rpc join DOMAIN -U administrator". wbinfo -u shows me alle the users etc. I integrated the pam_winbind.so in my pam configuration and users can login with their nt login and password. Everything works fine. After a while it seems that

Howto open NULL session with samba clients ?
Hi samba gurus, I'm actually writing a security audit tool, so as to see if our Windows computers are well configured. Basicly, here are the steps of the tool, given an IP address: 0. Ping the computer... 1. Get all names associated to that IP (nmblookup -A IP) 2. Open a null session to the computer to get the user list and share list. 3. Attempt to connect to each share, using each

Prevent NULL Session
I have a couple of Samba (2.0.7 & 2.2.0) servers I scanned with Nessus and they reported a security hole of "Possible to login to the remote host using a NULL session" I have a couple of NT servers I disabled with a registry edit. Is there a way to prevent this on the Samba servers or is it evan a valid issue? Thanks Mike

Precedence of usernames w/Winbind
I might be missing obvious here, but here goes: Samba 2.2.4. Using "winbind use default domain = <DOMAIN>" option usernames map correctly, however, when logging on from an W2K machine I still get the autogenerated UID instead of my NIS (Or /etc/passwd) UID. Both nis and files precede winbind in /etc/nsswitch.conf Commenting out winbind from /etc/nsswitch.conf works, which

I'm confused. What is winbindd supposed to get me?
I've got a Samba member server as part of a Windows NT domain. User accounts have the same name in both domain. I was having all sorts of trouble when winbindd was running with wierd groups showing up. I happened to screw up the winbindd configuration without noticing causing it to crash, but I ran snmd and nmbd anyway and suddenly everything started working perfectly. The docs say you

Has anybody got ACL to work w/ debian, winbindd in a w2k mixed domain?
Im seriously thinking about changing dist. due to acl won't work as they should with debian woody. Ppl also tell me this is because of some bug in debian. So, as the subject says, anybody got acl to work w/ debian 3, winbindd in a domain? If not, hello redhat.. restrict anonymous used wbinfo -A what next?
I am trying to get samba to work with winbind and still have the DC (w2k) use restrict anonymous. If I run wbinfo -A it will allow me to enumerate all the user accounts and groups but I still get prompted for a password when I try to access samba shares. I can turn off restrict anonymous and I can access the samba box all day with no problem but as soon as I turn on restrict anonymous it breaks.
