W2000/PDC/logon drive
Hi,
It is possible to login a W2000 workstation into a Samba PDC (version 2.2.6)?
Can I use "logon drive" and "logon home" to mount automatically at login time
for W2000?
Thanks, in advance,
Sincerely

Password woes...
Hi All,
Moving up from 2.0.7 to 2.2.6 is taking it's toll, but I'm getting there...
Right now I'm stuck on the smbpasswd stuff. With 2.0.7 I don't maintain
one (AFAIK). All users have UNIX accounts on the old machine, and I'm porting
over the passwd file to this new one. I have no idea what their passwords
are, and up till now, they simply change their UNIX passwd and

Hi folks,
Yet one more newbie into the fray. I'm trying to upgrade a Red Hat 7.2 test box from whatever version came with it to 2.2.3a...
Here are the steps I have done so far:
1. backed for the conf, smbusers, and smb file
2. stop the smb service
3. ran the command: rpm -e samba
4. tarred the source files to /usr/local/src/samba-2.2.3/source
5. now I'm trying to run the ./configure

Need clarification
Hi,
I'm trying to run samba 2.2.6 + OpenLDAP as user/group
database ( not /etc/passwd). nss_ldap+pam_ldap is installed and
working OK, as I can login using ssh, or trough
console with one of ldap user.
But trying to connect to samba, when samba is ran as
#samba -d 2 -i
I get:
...
init_sam_from_ldap: User [ldapuser] does not ave a uid!
pass_check_smb failed - invalid password for user

Eronious comment in sample Director configuration
The sample Director configuration (10-director.conf) says that
director_servers and director_mail_servers can be lists of either IPs or
hostnames:
# List of IPs or hostnames to all director servers, including ourself.
# Ports can be specified as ip:port. The default port is the same as
# what director service's inet_listener is using.

Where and how do I get the fixes to 2.2.6?
Hi all,
Since no one seams to have been able to help me with the problem below I
would like to try 2.2.6 with the fixes to the two known bugs that I have
read about on the mailing list. How and where do I get the patches for the
2.2.6 bugs? Or are there any patches? Thank you.

2.2.5/PDC Problem
I'm new to Samba (and relatively new to Linux itself), so please be gentle.
I'm running 2.2.5-1 on RH7.3 and I have it setup and running as a WINS
server and I would like to get it up and running as a PDC for my Win2K
environment. I've searched the archives, followed the documentation from
samba.org and a few other books on Samba itself and I cannot get a Win2K
machine to log into the

Smb PDC cracks with ldap, without ok
Hi everybody
I have a puzzling situation, I am trying to set up a PDC domain
controller, Suse 9.1 with Samba 3.0.4 (ok, suse comes with 3.0.2 but I
have tried almost everything XD ), autenticating against ldap 2.2.6
(original suse); also with the smbldap-tools.
The situation is, everything works fine without ldap, that is, smbpasswd
backend, I did create the directories for profiles and I

Debian Samba Versions
Hopefully a simple question.
Does anyone know of .deb or .dsc files for Samba Version 2.2.4, 2.2.5,
2.2.6, or 2.2.7? The only packages available from Debian are:
1. Stable - Samba 2.2.3
2. Testing - Samba 2.2.3
3. Unstable - Samba 30alpha20-4
I've looked on the debian website and in google with no luck.
Any help much appreciated?

Joining WinXp to Samba PDC
After trying to get WinXP (Pro) to try and find my domain so I can log
on I've finally done it, but now when I try and join my WinXP client to
the domain, windows asks me to enter the username and password of an
account with permission to join the domain.
Now which account would this be?? root doesn't work, neither do my other
samba users.
Do I have to create another user or something?

Winbind and Windows 2000
We are running a windows 2000 domain where I work. I
am developing a linux client for desktop deployment so
that we can stop the spread of cancer (read
microsoft). I can get winbind to join the domain,
but when i try a winfo -t, it tells me "could not
check secret". I have scoured the internet looking
for help and could not find anything. I used the HOW

Problem loggin on to samba PDC
Hi all!
How the heck do I log on to the samba domain? Every logon attempt is met with
"The system cannot log you to to this domain because the system's computer
accout in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is
incorrect."
A clients trust account was created using the authomatic adduser script and
there are valid samba users . Connection using samba

Samba PDC and XP Pro Problem. (Not signorseal - fixed that one some time ago)
Hi,
This is a simple query and may well have been answered in the mailing
list archives but my searching can't find an answer to my specific
problem.
My PDC is Samba 2.2.3 on Redhat 7.3, clients are a mix of Win 2k and XP
Pro laptops.
The Win 2k laptops work fine (all service packs applied) and allow any
domain user to log on to any of the 2k laptops. However the XP laptops

PDC Functions
Hi,
I am trying to set up Samba as a PDC on our network and having some
difficulty. I established a trusted machine account and added it to the
domain. Samba will however not release the SIDs needed by our servers
working off of it. I get the following message when trying to do a gpresult
[microsoft resource kit]

I did a grep through samba 2.2.8b and

Move Samba 3.0 PDC to different machine
Hi Samba List -
I've been surfing the web for a while looking for some help with moving an existing Samba 3.0 PDC to a different machine. I don't want to have to reconfigure each machine on my domain. There has got to be a way to backup the full domain controller, reinstall the samba packages on a new Linux machine, and just restore the users database, etc.
I'm sure someone has

clearcase and samba
FYI:,
I'm fairly new to samba (a couple of months now), and have experimented -
unsuccessfully - with getting it
to work with clearcase. Does anyone have a how-to, or a list of gotcha's for
setting up clearcase with samba?
Thanks in advance for any information you can send me.

detect if data is normal or skewed (without a boxplot)
Hello all:
Is there a way to detect in R if a dataset is normally distributed or skewed without graphically seeing it? The reason I want to be able to do this is because I have developed and application with Visual Basic where Word,Access and Excel "talk" to each other and I want to integrate R to this application to estimate confidence intervals on fish sizes (mm). I basically want to
