Need Samba Setup Help
Everyone,
I am hoping that someone can help me. I have been trying for several weeks
to get Samba working to no avail. I have consulted many online help files
including the ones located at
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html, browsing.txt that comes with
samba, http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/Samba24Hc13.pdf, and a few
others. I have even posted a previous message, which

Diagnosis Tests - Failed #5
I'm working on the first of a few Samba machines for our network.
It's running RedHat 6.2 and Samba 2.0.7.
On the NT 4.0 side of things I can see the machine (with the correct name)
if I do NET VIEW or look in the Network Neighborhood. However, when I do
"NET VIEW \\SambaServer" I get an Error 5 Access Denied. (Test 8)
So I started on the diagnosis and got to Item 5.
When I

newbie help, please?
Hi,
I'm trying to get a Samba (version 3.0.8pre1-0.pre1.3) to play with some
WinXP boxes. I'm using WORKGROUPS, not DOMAIN. The server is running
under Fedora Core 3. And I'm following the troubleshooting chapter in
the O'Reilly book, Chapter 9.
I cannot browse the shares from my WinXP machine. I CAN browse and
access shares okay as a client on the Samba server machine.

Error at client side
Greetings,
I am trying to make samba working on RH7.3.
I even can see Samba server from my W2k machine. However, when I click on
that, I wait a while and get an error message "The network path was not
found". I
don't know why?
If I try:
smbclient -U laoer -L W2Khostname without any password
I got the error: "Error returning browse list: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED"

What is the function of nmbd?
I've got Samba 2.2.2 installed and running fine on one of our servers
(RS/6000 AIX 4.3.3 and using NT authentication), however, when I do Test #4
(from docs/textdocs/DIAGNOSIS.txt) it looks like this:
npssrv{root}#nmblookup -B npssrv _SAMBA_
querying _SAMBA_ on 173.148.200.113
name_query failed to find name _SAMBA_
The test said I should get back the IP address of our samba server. I got

checking nmbd
Hello. I just recently upgraded to redhat 9 from 7 & everything went
smoothly except samba. Using the DIAGNOSIS.txt I get to step 3 (I
think) & execute the following command
nmblookup -B servername _SAMBA_
the return is thus
querying _SAMBA_ on 127.0.0.1
name_query failed to find name _SAMBA_
the text advises that nmbd is not installed correctly. Well I'm using

A couple of questions
Hi guys,
First of all, thanks for your great work. So many people *need* Samba to
work...!
I have a couple of questions about Samba. I have been fiddeling with Samba
config files for some time now (as well as reading documentation about
it), and... there must be something I am missing.
The network I am managing has a very, very standard configuration.
It's a C class (netmask:

Failing tests 5 and 6 in DIAGNOSIS.txt?

This appears to be a partial failure?

Multi-IP question
Hi all-
I'm fairly new to samba, but have been using 2.2.8 on a local subnet,
192.168.0.x, without problem. The PC with samba is running NetBSD, and
has 4 ethernet i/fs, all on different subnets, on different hubs, and
has Windows 2k clients. I now need to switch samba to two of the other
i/fs instead (the 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x subnets), and when I do, I
can see the NetBSD box from

No machine account possible?
Hi all,
Yesterday, i changed from samba 2.2.3 to samba 3.0, and also i changed
the machines which samba is running on. Samba worked and should work
as a PDC. It runs on a Debian sid, the test client is a notebook with
XP Professional.
Yesterday, immediately after migrating, everything worked fine. Even
after several reboots, i could logon as a domain user, and i could use
the shares. Today, i
