Can't write mount entrysmbmnt failed: 1
I've compiled and installed samba-2.2.8a on an embedded linux/uClibc
system, and I'm having problems using smbmount. I've appended the
debuglevel=10 output of smbmount. What does smbmount mean when it
says it "Can't write mount entry"? I tried running it under strace to
see what it was writing to, but all I saw was:
rt_sigaction(SIGTERM, {0x10000000, [], 0x408160},

call_nt_transact_ioctl: Currently not implemented.
Hello,
we run samba 2.0.6 on Solaris2.6 and use it together with clearcase
(version 3.2.1).
Sometimes the checkout of files from a clearcase NT-client hangs and
probably causes clearcase to destroy the viewstore. In the samba logfile
of that client I found the following message:

Install WinXP on FC6 - no graphic window display
I have loaded FC6 with the virtualizations kernel, and I am attempting
to load WinXP. I searched all the logs and docs and configured what I
think is correct based on these. When I do an xm create dfw11286lv1.hvm,
I get the following messages:

Disable Samba Write Cache???
Dear List,
I have a MSDOS 6.22 PC with MS Client 3.0 using a samba share on a SUN 2.6
Solaris box. The DOS application is reading data from that share and
updating a log file also on that share. Reading or writing is not a problem
at all. The problem is the log file is updated every 4K. Normally it will
take one day for the DOS application to create 4K of logging data. That
becomes an issue as

Suggestion for new 'dns proxy' feature?
Hi,
Am I right I thinking that if I turn on 'dns proxy', I can do
'\\smb.x.org' (if it fits into 15) letters?
I'd like to use 'dns proxy' but only for local addresses in my domain.
Would it be possible to do add a 'dns proxy local only = yes' or
something (new option) which won't use DNS to resolve names which have a
'.' in?

SMBCLIENT to Domain-Laden NT SP3
I am trying to list the shares on an NT 4.0 SP3 system.
I supply the -L <host> and -U <user> parameter and the password.
The password is correct, but I get an error 2242 returned. On a similar
machine configured without domains I have no problem. I have built using
DES and without DES and have tried the -DBSD44 switch and without
it (this is on FreeBSD). Enclosed is the debug

[PATCH] smbfs: smbfs do not honor uid, gid, file_mode and dir_mode supplied by user mount
Hi,
This patch fixes "Samba Bugzilla Bug 999". The last version (2.6.8.1) of
smbfs kernel module do not honor uid, gid, file_mode and dir_mode
supplied by user during mount. This bug is also logged as "Kernel Bug
Tracker Bug 3330". I think this stuff is related to the "unix
extensions". This patch offers to the client side the opportunity to
decide to use or

MS-Client
Hi!
I use MS-Client for pre-Windows 95 computers to use shares on my Linux
boxes, but also to serve their disks to everyone else.
This used to work, but I gradually upgraded and problems arose.
This afternoon, I wanted to use smbclient to access a share on the
Dos-computer, it gave listings of what was there, but I couldnt retrieve
any file. Mounting didn't work either, because I still had

to open the folder (if it even comes up). After that going deeper into the
filesystem is not an issue...but when you browse back to the base folder you
experience the same issue again (25 seconds or 'crash').
If it 'crashes' I get the error

smbclient-2.2.8a cannot connect to samba-3.0.0 server
Hi
I have a problem with subject. I have a samba 3.0.1 server to which both
windows and linux (using smbclient version 3) users can connect perfectly.
But smbclient version 2.2.8a or earlier users cannot connect to this
server. I have searched release notes, changelogs, the linux.samba
newsgroup and found no indication of others having the same problem. Most
likely it is something I have

SMBFS - Input/Output Errors on Save - Kernel => 2.6.8
I have a Debian (Unstable) workstation which accesses Samba shared directories
on a Mitel Server via smbfs mounts. All worked well up to an incuding kernel
2.6.7. After upgrading to 2.6.9 I found that trying to save a file to the share
in Open Office resulted in an input/output error. I found this also extends to
other programs. Subsequent experimentation reveals that the problem commences

smbfs intermittent errors: tdb_lock failed, ERRDOS 71
I mounted //winxp/linuxbu onto to a 2nd new mountpoint called
/mnt/buonwinxp. I got same errors as you.
So I first verified if password of the //winxp/linuxbu was wrong. With a
wrong password, I got response as below:

mount.smbfs hangs while trying to connect to dead server.
Hi all,
I have an automount setup. when some app tries to access a remote smb server
which is unreachable (but the network exists), the mount.smbfs that tries to
mount the fs basically never times out causing the app to hang.
Is there a connect timeout option somewhere that can unlock this hang ?

mount -t smbfs and msdfs...
Greets to all.
I was just wondering if mounting samba shares and microsoft
dfs are too far apart conceptually to work together.
(ie allow someone to mount a dfs root and magically get access
to all those shares listed under dfs)
I have noted in the samba mail archives that smbclient cannot
act as a dfs client (and tested it for myself)
Is it a case of "implement it for yourself if you

smbfs input/output error
Hello All,
I had a problem with 2.0.3 on RH6.0 (linux) where a mount of an NT
server share on my linux machine would mysteriously die after a period of
time (a long time? not being used? don't know why, but hours of unuse). I
would get an "input/output error" when I tried to do a df later. To get
around the problem, I found I needed to "umount" (not smbumount) the
