Winbind: can't log in as domain user
Sorry about the lengthy post - I'm putting as much in here as I can in hopes that someone can help me ferret out the problem. Basic problem is that domain users can't successfully log into the linux box. I'm trying to set this box up as an ltsp server authenticating against our existing AD (although this is actually in a test lab - I didn't really want to trash anything real

Winbind help?
Hi there. I've posted a couple of winbind-related queries to the group over the last couple of months, but have yet to get a reply. I've read the official howto, as well as any other documentation I could get my hands on, but am at an end to my personal understanding. Is there a separate mailinglist for winbind users, or have I simply asked a question nobody knows the answer to?

Automount, NIS, and Samba
I'm needing a strategy to accomplish the following: We have AD, with Server for NIS working on the DC. I've got NIS successfully working for login - or at least the client starts to login and then complains about a lack of home dir, which is fine for now. Each AD user has a directory on a fileserver, and I'd like these to be automounted as the home directory. The share path to a

NIS<->Samba mapping
I'm using NIS for authentication, and would like to use auto.home to mount a particular share on an NT server as $HOME when an NIS-mapped user logs in. I'd rather have the mount occur at each login rather than at boot, as we have a total of seven NT shares which potentially could contain a given users' directory. I can set the correct share for each user at the NIS user, but how do I

Problem connecting to Win2k share
Hi: After reinstalling my Win2k server, when I mount a Samba Windows 2000 share from my Linux clients I get this error: # smbmount //pc1/dir1 /dir2 Password: <ENTER> Anonymous login successful 11729: tree connect failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.) I'm accesing as anonymous without password. Anonymous login seems successful, but I have no access to the shares: #

Automount homes via smb question
I'm working on a client setup for thin-client machines in an AD with about 2000 users. One of the requirements is that the server (an LTSP box) not store each and every user's home directory. All of our users have a Home Folder setting in their AD object, and I'd like to use samba to mount that as "home." What works now: smbd, nmbd, winbindd. Compiled Samba 3.0 onto a

A couple of questions
Hi guys, First of all, thanks for your great work. So many people *need* Samba to work...! I have a couple of questions about Samba. I have been fiddeling with Samba config files for some time now (as well as reading documentation about it), and... there must be something I am missing. The network I am managing has a very, very standard configuration. It's a C class (netmask:

Printing from Linux (Redhat 9) to a win2k shared printer
I'm trying to use a Kyocera-Mita FS-1010 printer conencted on a Win2000 workstation. I can list the shares on the win2k station using smbclient and I can mount shares from it. When I'm trying to print a test page I get the following error: "ERRDOS - ERRbadaccess opening remote file testprint.ps". I am using the postscript driver. I hope someone can give me a hint :). Thanx!

Lots of ERRbadfile and Expected SMBtrans2 responses with smbclient
Hi all, I am using Amanda and smbtar for backing up Windows machines. However, in addition to the errors I get on open files (which is to be expected), I am getting errors on files that should be fine to access. Here is a snippet from the Amanda log which contains smbclient errors: ? code 0 opening remote file \ebsco-1064\cueanalysisnew.zip (\ebsco-1064\) ? Expected SMBtrans2 response, got

Shares are not listed (Access denied)
Good Morning, I have almost the same problem. When I use smbclient -U% -L server I get a share List and Server List but instead of listing the shares it says "Error returning browse list: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access Denied)". Using the same smbclient command on the local server the shares will be listed. The users exist in the remote server and in the smbpasswd. Anyone got an idea what

samba and/or DAV
while looking for a solution for webbased access to our samba-servers I found a recommendation towards using DAV instead. I just took a first glance at DAV (www.webdav.org) and find it very interesting. Are there any documentes comparing these two strategies in intranet and internet (speed, reliability ...) I would also be greatly interested if anyone here uses DAV to allow roaming users to

Mounting Windows Shares from Linux
Hi All, I'm sure this has been discussed many times but since I do not have a internet connection, I have to ask this question.. Need help diagnosing ERRbadfile messages
Hi all, I posted this to the list a few weeks ago but got no response. I'm running Amanda and smbtar and trying to back up some files on a Windows 2000 machine. I've verified that the files it's trying to back up are NOT open and permissions are fine for it to be backed up. This is a sample of the messages: ? code 0 opening remote file \ebsco-1064\cueanalysisnew.zip

smbfs failure mounting DAVE Macintosh share
Hi, I tried to make my Linux box smbmount a remote share originating from a Macintosh running the commercial package DAVE 2.5. The Linux box is a RedHat 6.0 with a 2.2.14 kernel (with smbfs inserted as a module) and samba-2.0.3; the iMac ran MacOS9. The directory to be shared, \\akemi\archivio, contained two files, aaa and bbb. Here's what happened: [root@sonal ~]# smbmount

Easy Solaris2.5.1/Samba2.0.3 ???
All, I only recently started using the Samba product on our Solaris 2.5.1 server. I am using it for the sole purpose of creating unix type queues (actually win clients with attached printers) to allow a 3rd party application (using Oracle8.0.4) to print to client pc's. The 3rd party application will only print via a unix queue. Below is the error I receive when trying to use smbclient;

Mount at boot - and a bug - where to report?
I have been having problems trying to get my samba mounted windows (XP) shares to mount at boot time on my Redhat 8 machine. I have tried changing the start order of things, but it didn't seem to help. Here is the interesting bits from the boot.log Feb 1 11:17:46 vortex-550 network: Setting network parameters: succeeded Feb 1 11:17:46 vortex-550 network: Bringing up loopback interface:

smb_errno: class ERRDOS, code 112 from command 0xb
Hi. We run Samba 2.2.1a in production and it seems to be working fine. We run it on RedHat 7.2, kernel 2.4.7-10smp. All of a sudden (I'm sure it's for a reason, but I can't tell why), this shows up in the logs: Oct 15 10:36:03 mumbai kernel: smb_errno: class ERRDOS, code 112 from command 0xb Oct 15 10:36:03 mumbai kernel: smb_errno: class ERRDOS, code 112 from command 0xb Oct
