Connecting from W95 to Samba Share
Hello group;
This is a question that has been posted before, but I haven't found an
answer in the archives or in the FAQ/docs. I've been thru the DIAGNOSIS.txt,
and get stuck on net view \\machname from a W95 OSR2 box (error 53 ...).
Setup: Solaris machine running Samba 2.0.0. I can use smbclient to connect
to it from various HP, AIX, Solaris, and Linux boxes, and NT 4.0 clients

Is it possible to have 2 WIN servers on the same network?
We have a network of apx 200 NT's,W95 & W98 using an NT machine for WINS
resolution.
Our dept has apx 15 W95/W98 machines hooked to a hub off a switch from the
main network. I would like to setup SAMBA to act as a WIN server for just
these
machines. Is it possible to do without changing subnets?
Now to complicate the question. Network login is done via an NT machine as
well. If we

Server string in Network Neighbourhood
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is the string that appears in browser lists restricted to being a single string without spaces, or can you include spaces ?
I have samba v1.9.15p8 running on a SGI O2 system, and I'm accessing its filesystems from a W95 PC.
I started off with the following line in my /etc/init.d/samba script
NMBD_OPTS="-C11th Floor SGI O2"

W95 and no update from samba shares
Hi,
i have a annoying problem that drives me crazy.
We have set up a Digital/Unix box with samba and the clients (W95) can mount
the shares from this box. On the Unix side we create a textfile which will be
periodically (or not) appended with new data. A Application on the W95 side
reads this file.
The Problem is, that the textfile has new lines, the Application don't see
them !!!

Wine and Dual booted Windows
Hi,
I have not yet found anything about this is the documentation. I have W95
and W2K installed and I would like to use both, if possible.
So is there anyway to config wine so that i can specify it run w95 or
w2k ? Some of my programs do not run and i think it maybe because they
were installed for w95.
thanks

Windows 95
I am having a problem with some Windows 95 PC's .
I had Samba 2.0.5 installed on a Sun system with Solaris 6, and a local
network of PC's with W95 and W98, and everything was working fine. I then
installed a new server with Solaris 8, and changed the IP addresses on the
network, and the W98 PC was fine as was one of the W95 PC's, but 2 W95Pc's
cannot see the Samba share, if I do

W95 speed issue
Hello all, I've got a W95 box connected via crossover to a 2.2.12
RH 6.0 linux box, running 2.0.3 samba.
Writes to samba from Win explorer are around 450 K/sec.
Reads from samba to Windows using Explorer are around 8 K/sec.
Using the smb version of tcpdump, I see between a .200 and .220
second lag between packets. smbd is nowhere near the top of my
"top" list output in linux.

I'm having problems getting an Xorcom USB Bri 4 dialling out in

I can receive calls into the system without an issue, but I can not for
the life of me dial out of the system. Below are my configs, I'm hoping
its something simple that I just can't see as I've been looking at it
for to long. Can any one point me in the right direction.

Logging into a remote domain???
Hi -
I'll be the first to say I don't completely understand Windows
networking, but I did get the following to work when everybody
(clients-w95/server-solaris) were on the same subnet.
W95 boots up and prompts for username, password, and domain. I log in, and
presto I'm connected and netlogon scripts run and everything is great.
This is when I'm testing it on a completely

Slow VC++ builds from Linux fileserver
We're using Samba 1.9.18p10 on a Linux 2.0.35 box as a fileserver chiefly
for software development under VC++. Builds are done from the command line,
not the IDE.
I'm seeing rather slow build performance under NT4SP3. Build performance is
fine under Win95. Build performance is also good when building from Samba
1.9.18p8 running on a Sun UltraSparc.
To give some concrete figures, building

Samba3 Win95 interoperability
Greetings,
I am trying to get samba3 to work well with W95. The windows 95
box can see the samba server, but cannot authenticate (claims wrong
password) to get to any shares. I know the smbpasswd is good as I can
authenticate and get to the shares using the same account and password on
a W2000 machine. I suspect I am doing something wrong in the [global]
section of the samba server.

Mount point goes invisible
I'm just getting started, and getting quite a strange result. I've been
able to mount my (login hal) Linux home directory as E: on my w95 system,
but when I try to "smbmount //isdn2/AMDAHL-WORK /mnt/amdahlwork", where
/mnt/amdahlwork is an empty directory on Linux, isdn2 is defined in
/etc/hosts as 192,168.1.2, the address the W95 box uses, and AMDAHL-WORK
is the name under

Logging on to the network - one samba, two subnets.
Hi.
I have Samba set up to serve W95 PCs. Kids "log in to the
network" using their Unix password. Students get their
Unix home dir mounted as network drive X: when login is
successful.
This all happens on IP subnet 192.168.1.1/24
So far, so good.
We are thinking about adding another IP subnet - say
192.168.2.1/24. Of course, the two subnets will be
connected with a router. It

Remote win98 refusing to connect to samba server
The problem: attempting to connect to a samba network drive from a
Windows 98 machine gives me the error message: "Not logged on".
Background:
We have been running samba to serve a number of w95 clients for a couple
of years. Some of the clients are remote and we don't bother with running
nmbd(8), so all clients have LMHOSTS files.
The problem is related to a new W98 machine

Slow initial access to shares
Hi *
The first time a share is being accesed on a Samba server from a W95
machine, it takes some 10 seconds to open the share. Subsequent accesses to
the same share ot other shares on the server are fast. After not accessing
the server for a while again the first access is really slow.
The same thing happens on a network (80 users) running Samba 2.0.4b server
under HPUX 10.20 and two Samba 2.0.3
