oplock problems
We are running samba 2.2.3a ( for about 3000 users ) on HP/UX 11.11 fileservers. Our customers are complaining about slow response on the opening/closing of files in office/excel etc. In the samba log file we see the following messages : [2002/10/29 09:03:27, 0] ../source/smbd/oplock.c:(761) oplock_break: receive_smb timed out after 30 seconds. oplock_break failed for file My

using VSS on a samba server - no smb locks ?
Hi all, We are considering moving our VSS database from a Win2K server to a samba server. All clients are Win2K clients. I used the VSS tool "testlock.exe" to make sure the native lock mode can be used. The test was successful, and I saw that an SMBlock transaction was performed, and a reply_lockingX was replied. When I opened a VSS database on the samba server and started to use it -

samba server crash and locking.tdb
Hi all, Please excuse me if this question is not appropriate for this forum: Lets assume that samba server crashed or was shut down abnormally, while users where holding open files in the server. In this case, I've noticed that locking.tdb is not being cleaned when samba is restarting. I was wondering why shouldn't it be cleaned. Thanks, Nir

Oplocks and Office 2000 SP3
Hi, I have serious problems to manage oplocks on Samba Share. Some clients have been installed Office 2000 SP3 + Windows XP SP1; they aren't working because Word+ Excel save files only read-only when reopen the file and I try to save. If use Wordpad or something else, It'll works fine. on the smb.conf: level2 oplocks = yes oplocks = yes veto oplock files =

security = domain / security = server
I understand that the difference between "server" and "domain" mode is that in "domain" mode"Samba fully uses the domain capabilities. He behaves like another NT Server or Windows 9x do by participating in domain trust relationships." Could someone please explain me 1. What is it exaclty that "domain" mode does, that "server" mode

Problem with Office (and Windows 2000) and oplocks (and even without)
Since switching from Samba 2.2.3a-6 on Debian stable to 3.0.2a packages from the samba.org server (system is Debian stable too) we've had extreme problems with Office documents. Samba acts as a PDC and the user log onto it. The LDAP Authentication works great. Our clients are all Windows 2000 and Office 2000. When opening documents word (excel) sometimes just hangs (for 30 seconds until

kernel oplocks
I am a little bit confused about the kernel support for oplocks. man page of smb.conf: ---------------- For UNIXs that support kernel based oplocks (currently only IRIX but hopefully also Linux and FreeBSD soon) this parameter allows the use of them to be turned on or off. This parameter defaults to "On" on systems that have the support, and "off" on systems that don't.

no response received to oplock break request
Hi All, My problem started with new server hardware and software update, also I changed my network from 10 to 100Mb (New Cable and switches) I have a problem with oplocks. I run Samba 2.0.10 (also tried 2.2.1a) on Suse 7.1 Kernel 2.4. Several times a day I have an oplock error like this: (request_oplock_break: no response received to oplock break request to pid 5312 on port 32857 for dev = 803,

2 Samba problems (oplock & hosts allow)
Hello everybody, I have 2 questions about Samba operation: First, hostnames don't work in my "hosts allow" directive, although smb.conf(5) explicitly says "You can specify the hosts by name or IP number". If I specify a client by its name, that client is not allowed access, even though the server can do reverse DNS on the client's IP. The message I get in the

ok, so oplocks: good or bad?
I have been searching for info on this and haven't found an authoritative answer. From what I have read, oplocks are good because they increase connection speeds, but they are bad because they don't really work, but they actually do work, but they only work in some cases, etc etc. so, here's my problem and my question together: I get tons of these messages every day (over a thousand a

level2 oplocks problem
Dear all, We have samba-3.0.11 on freebsd 5.4 as file/print server it works perfect, but if two users open the same file together the second still can write to the file it cannot be allowed in you situation. But the other server with freebsd 4.11 doesn't have this problem perfectly do write lock on open file, so may be it's freebsd 5.x problem? I can't find what's wrong,

Can I have oplocks enabled without problems?
Hi, I used to have a win NT to serve small office networks comprised of windows clients. During the last months I have made a considerable effort to learn enough about linux in order to explore it's capabilities for that application. In the area of file & print sharing samba still looks as the best choice. I am using it in my office for some weeks now and I am quite happy with it. Yet I

How important are oplocks?
Hello, I'm wondering just how critical it really is to turn off oplocks. It appears that not only Windows 2k server, but also Netware 5 and above defaults to having these enabled. I just spoke with two software companies running databases off of file servers (no database server, just MDAC stuff), and they had never heard of it, much less require it to be disabled. Everything I've

Hello, SIP invites are accepted from imitator , but 'SIP 180' is not responded back to imitator. By inspecting the issue , we can *see* the response is generated and sent from asterisk (via asterisk logger ("sip debug" )) , but while sniffing the interface with tcpdump, we can't see 180 response on the interface. We don't have errors on the interface, firewall
