RE: [PATCH] smbfs readdir fix (CFT: NetApp, OS/2)
Vlad.
I still got the same problem - 'ls | wc -l' returned incorretc numbers.
I installed the following patches with the sequence vs. the kerner 2.4.18:
1. 00-smbfs-2.4.18-codepage.patch.gz
2. 01-smbfs-2.4.18-lfs.patch.gz
3. 02-smbfs-2.4.18-unicode.patch.gz
4. smbfs-2.4.19-pre9-readdir.patch
After installed patches, I ran 'make modules' and so on.
Any more

smbfs Unicode patch for 2.4.x kernel
Hi,
I'm looking for a patch to the redhat 2.4 kernel to add Unicode
support to smbfs. My particular version is 2.4.26. I searched the list
archives and found someone named Urban Widmark claimed to have a patch
for 2.4.18, but his URL is outdated.
If anyone has this patch, please let me know -- this would help me
greatly. Thanks!

smbfs and cifs
I periodically see smbfs questions get asked on this list, and they
usually get one of two responses:
1. smbfs is a kernel module; this list is not the appropriate place to
be asking smbfs questions.
2. You should be using cifs instead.
(Please let me know if either if these is incorrect.)
I was surprised to see, however, that the smbmount / mount.smbfs
manpage makes no mention of cifs as being

Broken pipe on ls after doing mount -t smbfs
I have a problem with smbmount.
I have a linux server running E-Smith (or Mitel SME server as it is now) which
is basically a cut down version of RedHat 7.0 (running Kernel 2.2.19-7.0.8smp).
Samba version is 2.0.10. We are connecting to an NT server (service pack 3 - I
must upgrade that sometime soon).
We have quite a good tapedrive and backup software (3rd party) on the E-Smith
server, whereas

Samba connection problem btw RH7.3 and WinME
Hi All Guys,
I just join this list
I am going to experiment a crossover connection
between a WinME box and a RH7.3 Box. The setting of
WinME is without problem. It can communicate with
another WinME box or a WinXP box with crossover
connection. I don't use password to login in both
boxes
I have Samba-2.2.3a running on a RH7.3 box
#service smb start/stop
Everything OK without complaint

but I don't understand what to change and where to change it and how to
change it, yet. Any documentation available specifically for rhl 7.2 and
samba 2.2.3a would be especially welcome.
All help is very welcome!
Thanks,
Kevin

Is anyone maintaining the smb filesystem?
Is anyone maintaining the smb filesystem in the Linux kernel?
Emails to the Email address urban@teststation.com of Urban Widmark that
is listed in MAINTAINERS are bouncing.
Can anyone tell how to reach Urban and/or whether anyone is currently
maintaining smbfs?
TIA

FW: smbmount question
Nevermind...need to read the whole msg...
I didn't notice you were installing WINS on
the NT box...hence the reboot.
Standard practice for Winxx:
1. Install, reboot
2. Update, reboot, repeat....
I support about 25 pc's-it annoys the hell
out of me how MS manages updates. How many
Internet Explorer security updates have there
been so far this year-22? Each one of them

samba, RH7.3 and windows NT/2K/XP problem?
Hi,
We have a couple of RH7.3 systems. Both have samba installed and they
were running well before. Now, one system's samba shows a problem after
the system rebooting yesterday. Samba is still running and all windows
95, 98 users can access this RH7.3 system without any problem, but
windows NT/2000/XP users cannot access it now. Before the rebooting, all
windows (including nt/2k/xp)

smbfs: failed dir listing
Has anyone else seen these?

SMBMOUNT: process freezes on file copy
Thanks Urban. I am now convinced that this problem is being caused by the
reshare of the Novell drive. I have ended up copying the data (around 6Gb,
400,000 files) to the Windows 2000 server from the Novell server. I then
mounted the Windows 2000 share using smbmount. Copying this has been a
dream with no sign of any problems at all.
I think we will have to put this down to the MS Gateway

HDD duplication in RH7.3
Hi Folks,
I have an internal HDD running under RH7.3. I would like to purchse a second HDD(usb external) of same geometry, and use it as a bootable snapshot of the first internal HDD.
I wish to make a whole disk bootable backup regularly via this method.
Is this feasible ?
How should I approach this ?
Any advice and/or documentations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Missing Directory Entries (SMBFS)
SuSE 9.0 Pro - Kernel 2.4.21 - Samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.1-14
Here's my problem:
On a box runninng XP, I have a shared folder which contains 130+
subdirectories. This share is mounted on my linux box from '/etc/smbfstab',
but some directories do not show up in directory listings. It's never more
than one, and which one varies, but generally seems to be in or near the

New maintainer needed for the Linux smb filesystem
Since Urban Widmark was not active for some time, and I didn't have any
success trying to reach him, it seems we need a new maintainer for the
smb filesystem in the Linux kernel.
Is there anyone who both feels qualified and wants to become the new
maintainer?
