Diverse servers
I currently have a single server with a few SIP and IAX upstreams for origination and termination with IAX clients. I am adding a second server that will have a much higher capacity and will be handling a larger call volume. However, this second server is not going to be geographically near the first. It will largely share the same upstreams. I would like for this to be an integrated system

Umlaute and Sharing with both SAMBA and Helios Ethershare.
Hi all
I have samba 1.9.18 and 2.0.2 shares which are also shared to the
macintosh world with Helios ethershare running under Solaris 2.5.1 and
2.6. I can create files and directories with the German special
characters "umlaute" and "sz" with either client. My problem is that the
macintoshes can't access directories created from the PCs whose name
contains special

What is the universal (world wide) understanding behind degaussing harddisks?
Good evening from Singapore!
The foremost question which I want to ask is, what is the universal
(world wide) understanding behind degaussing hard drives?
I work for No Secrets Agency (NSA) Pte Ltd (fictitious company name

Samba4, MS CAL and Windows Server as domain member
Hi everyone,
I have a licencing question : do one need to buy CAL for every user in a Samba4 domain when there is a Windows Server as a domain member, knowing that the Windows server will be accessed using SMB by Windows workstations?
As per http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch01.html and many other web sites, one of the main advantage of samba is that no user CALs are required. And I

using lm() with variable formula
New to R; please excuse me if this is a dumb question.  I tried to RTFM;
didn't help.
I want to do a series of regressions over the columns in a data.frame,
systematically varying the response variable and the the terms; and not
necessarily including all the non-response columns. In my case, the
columns are time series. I don't know if that makes a difference; it
does mean I have to call

Wsus
You can join a Windows Server to a Samba4 Domain controller and set up the WSUS server role and it should work. HOWEVER, if you are going to point all your devices at the WSUS server, you will require CALs for the devices or the users using them to maintain licensing compliance with Microsoft. At this point, you have paid for the number of Windows Server CALs you need to run actual Active

Cell gateway for T-Mobile US??
Most gateways I have found are only sold overseas.
Do these work in the US?
My provider is T-Mobile (using their Blackberries).
They support:
GSM (I am pretty sure)
GPRS
EDGE
We get unlimited Cell to Cell minutes and would like to leverage the
possible savings.
Does anyone know of a product that they have been happy with?
SIP or Analog is fine although SIP (or IAX) is preferred for the

Importing an Excel file
Hello, R users,
I am a very beginner of R and tried read.csv to import an excel file after
saving an excel file as csv. But it added alternating rows of fictitious NA
values after row number 16. When I applied read.delim, there were trailing
several commas at the end of each row after row number 16 instead of NA
values. Appreciate your help.

T1 passthrough/middleman
Is it possible to act as a middle man on a T1 line?
My installation currently has an aging Inter-Tel Axxess box with a T1
coming in (16 in, 8 out). Rather than adding and replacing phones and
cards as they die, I would like to slowly migrate to a asterisk SIP
installation.
I want to take the incoming T1 line, use any available outgoing lines
for outgoing SIP, intercept any incoming lines and

Odd bug in Siemens C460IP ?
Hello,
I think I have encountered an odd bug in Siemens C460 IP/dect handsets,
which is a bit annoying, and I'm not (yet) sure how to get round it without
lots of hacks.
Basically, on all external incoming calls, we set:
exten => s,n,SIPAddHeader(Alert-Info: Bellcore-dr2)
This causes handsets (i.e. Cisco 7960 / Grandstream / aastra) to set a
different ring cadence so to differentiate

binomial glm for relevant feature selection?
As suggested in my earlier message, I have a large population of
independent variables and a binary dependent outcome. It is expected
that only a few of the independent variables actually contribute to the
outcome, and I'd like to find those.
If it wasn't already obvious, I am *not* a statistician. Not even
close. :-) Statistician colleagues have suggested that I use logistic

predict (PR#2686)
# r-bugs@r-project.org
`predict' complains about new factor levels, even if the "new" levels are
merely levels in the original that didn't occur in the original fit and were
sensibly dropped, and that don't occur in the prediction data either. (At
least if `drop.unused.levels' was set to TRUE, which the default.)

Duplicate rows when I combine two data.frames with merge!
Hello all,
First I have done extensive searches on this forum and others and nothing
seems to work. So I decided to post thinking someone could point me to the
write post or give me some help.
I have drawn a 100 samples from a fictitious population (N=1000), and then
randomly selected 25% of the 100 samples. I would like to now merge the
data.frame from the 100 samples with the data.frame for
