Regenerate news feeds?
The news feeds (e.g. https://developer.r-project.org/blosxom.cgi/R-devel/NEWS) have some stray "\abbr" floating around. Do they need generating with a more recent version of R-devel? I've run tools::Rd2txt on https://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/doc/NEWS.Rd and r85550 does seem to remove these abberations (compared to the same function calling on an unpatched 4.3.2 where they

Read failure for 4. Error = connection reset by peer.
I am having a SERIOUS problem with our new 2.2.5 server. In fact I will probably be forced to move to a Windows 2000 Server platform, as the samba server is practically useless. Work on any files on the share cannot be done without major risk of losing data. I get these two errors all day: [2002/09/19 21:04:21, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) read_data: read failure for 4. Can't browse workgroup
I have joined my w2k client to workgroup_name, however I cannot see my samba server at all. If I try and view it via 'Computers Near Me' I get a error window stating: 'Workgroup_name is not accessible.' 'The account is not authorized to log in from this station.' I get the same error if I try this as the w2k administrator or user account. If i try searching for

Basic SAMBA configuration help
I've recently installed Samba 2.2.5(from source) on a linux 2.4.19 system and am having great difficulty configuring it to work with w2k clients. My inital goal is to have Samba act as a PDC so that I may have logins to the network and provide basically a single public disk share and a home share per user. After two and a half days of dismal failures I have tried to simply get the Samba

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

Personal Wiki for CentOS
For ages I have been keeping docs and notes in Public Folders inside an Exchange server and want to move this out to a more modern facility that allows tagging and searching via a web interface for keywords so I can keep all my notes more organized. Anyone have any personal recos for the slickest system to do this with. Given the nature of my home setup, its routinely used to lab stuff up so I

Client timeout problems.
I'm using Samba 2.2.5 with Win2k(and a couple of WinXP) clients. For a month everything has been running fine. Just recently I have started having problems with what seems to be the clients dropping their TCP connections. If you let the client sit for a while, even if it has a file open but don't save it, it will lose it's connection to the server. Running netstat on the client shows

printing issues - lprng
Hi, I am running samba and lprng for 4 hp laserjets. Sometimes a samba print job goes to the wrong printer. Normally everything works just fine. Shown below is the lprng acct log file enries for the concerned print job. Please notice that the print job was supposed to go to hp4050-mail, but ended up in hp8100. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks Balagopal jobstart

completed printjobs stay in queue after "upgrade" 3.0.20rc2 -> 3.0.20
A few weeks ago, I upgraded Samba 3.0.1x to 3.0.14a . After the upgrade, all completed printjobs on all 40 printers stayed in samba's print queue (they were removed from the unix-printqueue). When I installed 3.0.20rc2, everything back to normal. But since the upgrade this weekend to 3.0.20, the same thing happens again: no jobs were removed from the samba printerqueue's. Removing

Problem with job removal
Hi, We've been stuck with this problem for a while now and we believe I tried enough potential solutions to justify my posting here. We're using samba 3.0.14a in Sarge in order to allow printing from Windows workstations (The authentication works with AD+Kerberos+Winbind) to a set of shared printers. Printing works perfectly but we would like to allow users to have control over the jobs

Printer Problems (Access Denied)
I've seen this issue asked about and asked about in the archives, unfortunately I can't seem to find a real solution only people's theories. The issue involves a 2.2.5 Samba server acting as a member print server in a Windows 2000 domain. I can add printers from the server to clients in the domain and then print. The issue comes when I try and view/manage the print queue from Windows.

LPRng and SAMBA
First of all, thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far resolving my samba problems! The latest has to do with LPRng and directory permissions. LPRng requires 0600 permissions on the spool directory, owner daemon group daemon. Whenever a user tries to print through SAMBA, they do not have write access to the spool directory, as teh job comes in user/group of the person who printed. Any

3.3.10 <-> AD 2008 R2 very slow
Hi again, I changed from 3.4.5 to 3.3.10 after an AD upgrade to 2008R2 and prinitng is working mor ore less but it is incredibly sloooow. My server has no remarkable load so it is not due to hardware bottlenecks. Are there any ways to 'tune' 3.3.10 or any tricks to make it faster ? cheers ~christoph -- /* Christoph Beyer | Office: Building 2b / 23 *\ * DESY

Printing to Samba 2.0.7 from Windows 2000
Hi, I've recently installed LPRng 3.6.22, ifhp 3.3.19, and Samba 2.0.7 on my FreeBSD 4.1 system. Printing works fine from the FreeBSD machine, and I am able to access shares via my Win2000 machine. I've configured a [printers] section in smb.conf, and I am able to see the LaserJet 2100 when browsing, but on installing it I am unable to print to it. I get en error connecting the printer
