things clear a bit.
Sorry but things clear a bit now ;-)
i ran out of inodes on the filesystem, which is used by the arkeia
database.
It would be nice if the kernel loggs this condition a bit more clearly ;-)
So i guess this time this "bug" is not the same seen corrupting files a
few month before.

ext3 behaviour when no space on disk
While compiling two kernels and untarring a third, my root fs was remounted r/w
and I got the following in dmesg (kernel 2.4.19-pre9):
EXT3-fs error (device ide0(3,2)) in ext3_new_inode: error 28
Aborting journal on device ide0(3,2).
ext3_abort called

EXT3-fs error (device md(9,1)) in ext3_new_inode: error 28
Hi,
Subject line says it all. When one of the linux.org.uk machines got
rebooted, it performed a full fs check of the main 160GB ext3
partition claiming it contained errors. During the check it found:
Deleted inode 142279 has zero dtime. FIXED.
The kernel message log contained lots of:
EXT3-fs error (device md(9,1)) in ext3_new_inode: error 28
We had used up all the available inodes.

ext3 corruption
Hello,
Over the last month or so, I've noticed the following error showing up
repeatedly in my system logs under kernel 2.4.18-ac3 and more recently
under 2.4.19-rc1:
EXT3-fs error (device ide0(3,3)) in ext3_new_inode: error 28
I've now been able to capture the following Oops before the system went
down entirely:
Assertion failure in do_get_write_access() at transaction.c:611:

EXT3-fs error
Hello all.
I'm using RedHat 7.2 now and haven't have any problems until today. I
can still boot into the system at this time, but cannot load X at all.
I'm getting the following error message when I try to run fsck.

I think it was this list that someone had said they were using arkeia.
Could that person or anyone for that matter who is using arkeia please
contact off list?
Sorry if I was mistaken. -m

assertion in journal_start
Hi,
I have a server configured as follows:
a standard 2.4.18 kernel, IDE discs, 1Gb RAM (not all used), load avg around 1-2.
a large partition, formatted reiserfs
within large partition are 80 300Mb loopback file systems, formatted ext3.
I got the following assertion yesterday which forced a lot of processes
into D state. I'm not sure how easy it is to reproduce this problem.

EXT3 Trouble on 2.4.4
All,
I know that there is no official port to Kernel 2.4.4, thus I may not get any
help, however I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction for
my problem. I am currently forced to use kernel 2.4.4 for reasons out of
my control (embedded board).
Here are the exact versions of everything I'm running:
ExT3 Version: ext3-2.4-0.9.6-248
Util Version: util-linux-2.11f.tar.bz2

question for file attributes (atime, ctime)
Hi,
I looked though documentation and also checked last 9 months of
archives, but could not find the corresponding information. We are
having an issue with incremental backup with arkeia. Arkeia checks if
ctime/mtime of the file are changed, if so, it backs up.
I realized that when I ran rsync from a cammnd line, it changed ctime,
and preserved atime of the file in a destination as

Would the following be symptoms of hardware problems or just a corrupt

[Fwd: question for file attributes (atime, ctime)]
It looks like I need to elaborate further to get a feedback.
I checked the rsync source code and it is using utime() to restore
atime file attribute. It is fine to change ctime for that transferred
file in this case.
What we are having problem is that when rsync gets kicked off and
transfers one file to the destination, this action changes ctime of
"all" files in the same

backup to disk
Hi,
I'm looking for common practices for backing up user data to disk. My
user data is all in /home. I'm also interested in what folks are doing
for things backing up os and configs.
Any pointers on setting up rsync, cpio, etc would be appreciated.
Pointers to good how-to's especially welcome.
Currently we're using Arkeia Network Backup (commercial product with

Ext3 filesystem access after downgrade from v4.2 to v3.6
I need to downgrade a system from Centos x4.2 to v3.6 (x86) due to
performance problems with Arkeia Network Backup and AIT-4 tape drives.
The backup database is stored on a v4.2 created ext3 partition. When
accessing this partition after the downgrade, Centos complains on boot
that
fsck.ext3: Filesystem has unsupported feature(s) (/dev/sda5)
*fsck: Get a newer version of e2fsck! [fail]

File names and e-acute char
Hi.
Samba 1.9.15p8 under IRIX 6.1 (yes I know, it's old stuff ...)
The susers on Windows 9x/WindowsNT just put their strange file name or
directory name (like /usr/people/mesure_?t? ) on the IRIX. However, from
the IRIX side, it's impossible toaccess to such files/directory.
What's more, my ARkeia backup client stalls on such a name and fouled up
my backup database...
NB: Oops: for

What will happen when disk(ext3) is full while i continue to operate files ?
I am sorry if you receive it twice. since the
mail-list said that i can't send mail to it unless i
become one its member.
hi,
My system will crash when the disk(ext3) is full
while i continue to launch 50 proceses to operate
files(such as create, rm, mv, ...). Does ext3 have
such a capability to stop journaling the changes when
it finds there is no space left? or which source file
of ext3
